Work Text:
Lincoln was drifting off to sleep. Daisy’s bed always felt so warm and comfortable. Beside him, the steady click-clack sound of typing was luring him to dreamland.
The keyboard fell silent, and he felt Daisy shift from her position. He blinked.
“Daisy?”
“Shh.” Daisy was closing her laptop. “I’ll be right back. Need to plug this in.”
“Stay.” Lincoln rolled to his side and cuddled up to her. “I can charge it.”
“Are you sure?”
Lincoln woke up enough to look at her, “You trust me to lift you into the air, but not to charge your computer?”
“I haven’t backed this up yet,” Daisy protested, though she was smiling. “Promise you’ll be careful with my baby.”
He was too tired to roll his eyes, so he only placed his hand on the computer and recharged the battery.
“See? I can do this in my sleep.”
“Show off,” Daisy said fondly. She placed the laptop on her nightstand, on top of the book he’d been reading before bed, then settled back down next to him.
“This is nice,” Daisy said as she snuggled into his arms. “Thanks babe.”
“You’re welcome.” Lincoln mumbled around her hair. “Does this mean I rank the same as your computer programs now?”
“Nah, the code’s my baby.” Daisy kissed him on the lips. “You’re my babe.”
Mmm, he liked that nickname.
The lounge was a nice quiet place to relax after a long day at the lab, except for the loud debate that is currently taking place.
“I’m telling you Fitz, my phone is better than yours,” Daisy said. “See? I’ve been running all these programs for the past hour, and I’m still at full power.”
“That’s impossible!” Fitz grumbled. “I don’t care what kind of code you put on there, the processors have to draw at least—”
Lincoln stopped listening to Fitz’s list of things that ought to drain power from a cell phone. He glanced at Daisy, who casually dropped the item in question back into her jacket pocket. She leaned back against him on the couch. They’ve never been shy about public displays of affection. He obliged and put a hand around her waist, right above her pocket, then recharged her phone.
“Daisy?” he asked. How long are we going to keep the prank up?
Her answering smile was full of mischief. As long as it takes.
It was literally impossible for him, but right now, Lincoln felt like his brain was short circuiting.
“Lincoln,” Daisy breathed his name while kissing down his neck. “Come on.”
Yes. He would like to, very much. Preferably inside and not on her though, at least for the first round.
“Condom.” Lincoln tore himself away from Daisy’s attention and frantically looked around. His clothes were thrown too far away from the bed. “Nightstand?”
He jerked the drawer open at Daisy’s nod, wincing a bit at the sound of things jangling. Hopefully he didn’t break anything. Ah, there’s the condom box. He reached in, then paused when he noticed what else was jostled up to the front.
“Babe?” Daisy came closer when he didn’t move immediately. “What are you looking at?”
“Sorry.” Lincoln turned around. “Didn’t mean to snoop. Just, um—”
“Are you seriously blushing because you found my vibrator? After everything else we’ve done?”
“I thought you liked using your fingers more,” he blurted out. There was one night that’s imprinted in his memory forever. “You know, with your powers.”
“Sometimes a girl wants to lie back and relax,” Daisy smirked. “Let someone” —she traced a finger down his torso, stopping right before where he wanted her to go— “or something else to do the work. But yeah, I usually prefer doing things myself. That one always runs out of battery before I’m ready.”
Lincoln licked his lips, “Not if I’m around.”
Daisy’s grin held all sorts of promises, “Prove it.”
Most of the team was hanging out in the lounge. Lincoln claimed an armchair by the light to catch up on his reading. S.H.I.E.L.D. always kept its library well updated. Lincoln had the most recent issues of no less than three different science journals, and he was happy.
In different areas of the room, people were equally happy doing their own things. Bobbi and Hunter were busy making heart eyes at each other. Jemma tried to convince May to test her latest kale smoothie recipe after Tai Chi practice. Fitz, Mack, and Daisy were on the couch, shooting Nazis on the TV screen.
Suddenly a loud curse went out, turning all heads towards the game-playing trio. Mack was scowling at his game controller.
“I put in new batteries two weeks ago. Who’s been playing and forgetting to recharge?”
Fitz and Daisy exchanged guilty glances. They both enjoyed a round of beating two-dimensional enemies when the job’s stress got too high. The two started speaking.
“I can go grab my screwdriver and new batteries—”
“Here, take mine—”
“Guys.” Lincoln raised his hand. “Toss it over?”
Daisy took the dead game controller from Mack and threw it across the room.
“Tremors!”
“What?” Daisy said. “He said ‘toss,’ and Lincoln’s really good at charging my batteries.”
“Daisy!” Jemma sounded scandalized while Bobbi raised an eyebrow.
“What” —Mack shook his head— “I don’t want to know.”
“You all need to get your mind out of the gutter,” Lincoln said with the best neutral expression he could summon. Not remembering the other night. Nope.
“Exactly.” Daisy winked as he charged the gadget. “Lincoln’s power isn’t even the hottest thing about him.”
“We don’t want to know!”
Beep.
Lincoln groaned and buried his face in the pillow.
Beep.
Daisy muttered something in her sleep.
Beep.
Lincoln rolled on his back and peered up. The little red flashing light was mocking him.
Beep.
Daisy made a protesting noise.
“Shh.” Lincoln kissed her forehead. “I’ve got it.”
He moved his arm out from the warm blankets and aimed at the ceiling. Of course the one safety protocol S.H.I.E.L.D. actually followed was a carbon monoxide detector in every sleeping quarter. He yawned, sending a lazy blue current up and recharging the batteries.
The beeping noise stopped. Lincoln got his arm under the covers and around Daisy. Back to sleep with his girlfriend.
His heartbeat was slowly returning to normal. Lincoln inhaled, taking in Daisy’s scent as she caught her own breath on top of him. At some point after she stopped shaking, Daisy had let herself fall forward onto his chest. Lincoln stroked her back, enjoying the feeling of her skin next to his.
“I should get up,” Daisy said, not moving an inch.
“Mmm,” Lincoln hummed his agreement. He needed to pull out, but having Daisy wrapped around him felt too good. He moved his head instead, catching her lips in a languid kiss.
“This is nice.” Daisy nuzzled his face as their kisses eventually turned into small pecks. “But my legs are going to protest soon.”
“Too much riding?” Lincoln teased, reaching between them to guide himself out.
“Never.” Daisy stuck her tongue out at him before rolling off to find her underwear.
Lincoln sat up, tying the condom and throwing it away in the nearby trash can. He was ready to lie back down when he realized Daisy was walking towards the pants she had left close to his door.
“Daisy?”
“One sec.” She took her phone out of the pocket, tossed the pants somewhere in the direction of her discarded shirt, and moved towards his desk. “Want to charge this first.”
“I can do it.”
“You can, but you don’t have to.” Daisy yawned as she plugged in her phone. “We both had a long day at work and deserve some rest. You’re not just a walking battery.”
“I like to think of myself more as an Inhuman charger.”
“Mmm, insert when I need an energy boost?”
Lincoln laughed, “If you get more energy after that last round, then I’m not doing it right.” He opened his arms as she climbed into his narrow bed, trying to find a comfortable position for them both. “Is this good?”
“Yup.” Daisy snuggled into him. “And I meant positive energy.”
“Post-coital glow?”
“That.” He couldn’t see her face pressed to his heart, but he could hear the contented hum in her voice. “And more. I am happy when I’m with you.”
Lincoln kissed her hair, “I am happy when I’m with you too.”
