Work Text:
George wasn’t sure what woke him up from his rest, as there was no shouting and no smell of blood. He was warm, comfortable, cuddled up with someone, and-
Wait
Cuddled up with someone?
Blinking the grogginess out of his eyes, he was confused. He didn’t remember resting, but it wasn’t unheard of for him to doze off like that if he felt safe. Whoever he was holding was safe enough for him to sleep without worry.
George sat up and looked down at whoever it was he was holding, a small frown on his face.
There in his arms laid Dream, asleep and content it seemed. His hair was brushed and braided, and had quaint flowers in the braids. He looked… not small; the man was as tall as he was and still growing- but younger. Like the weight of constantly changing the world for the better wasn’t grinding at his bones while he slept.
George thought he looked beautiful, ethereal.
Knowing Sapnap was likely hunting for breakfast, he settled back down. Gently as to not disturb his friend, George quietly traced lines on Dream’s skin to keep himself occupied, a frown forming on his face once he reached a few scars.
The thought of anyone ever wanting to harm Dream was still mystifying to him. This man who only uses deadly force only when needed, who only rests to give his brain a little break, who seemed to somehow weave his knowledge with the gentleness of a healer and the force of a tank- to help protect and aid his friends when they are hurt and can not move with the strength they have, whom life had only seemed to give the worst to despite deserving close to the best.
Dream would hate having the best in life, he knew it would make Dream feel dirty, like a puppet being dragged into the mud. George would have to settle with getting Dream to as close to that as he can. He could work with that, as long as he could get Dream to see he deserved better, he could work with that.
It made his blood boil when he’d remember what Sapnap had told him, and what Dream’s eluded at. If they weren’t already dead, he had a few experiments he wanted to try out. He’d wait on his anger however, no point in wasting time or energy on the dead.
But there was time for those thoughts later, for now, he had a rare moment of being up before Dream was. He couldn’t help but smile at him, he really did look ethereal when he slept, the weight of the world off his shoulders.
He’d swear until the day he died, that the gods stole his breath when those jade eyes fluttered open. Voice full of love, soft and drowsy with sleep. “George?”
“Good morning sleepyhead, how did you sleep?”
“Good I think, no bad dreams or anything, and I’m not sore. How about you Georgie?”
“I slept like the dead, Sapnap’s a regular human heater.”
“Yeah that’s fair.” Watching him stretch he couldn’t help but smile a bit, Dream really did take after Ant with the cat-like qualities. It was kind of cute.
“Panda’s out hunting?”
“Yeah, he saw some deer and figured that would make some good breakfast, maybe make another blanket with the hide.”
“Smart idea. We can dry the meat throughout the day and have jerky and stuff.” George cringed a bit at hearing Dream’s spine and shoulder pop, his own bones unable to pop like more stable people.
Dream assured him it felt nice when he did it at least, always said it was like when he’d pop his jaw sometimes.
He’d stay by him until he turns him away, weird noises or not.
…and maybe when they’re both a little older, he’d find a new appreciation for those weird noises, from Dream and Sapnap.
