Nunew didn’t cry even after Hia Zee’s funeral but when Nunew received some of Hia’s things from his co-soldier Sergeant Max that broke him.
“He was so happy and kept on mentioning that he was so nervous the day before it happened, because He said he’ll be going home early and need to prepare for something but nobody expected this to happen. We were ambushed. It’s all of my fault, Nunew. I’m terribly sorry for the lost.” Max, Hia’s fellow soldier and Hia’s best friend at the camp added sympathetically.
Nunew cannot stop his tears from falling when he saw his Hia’s hand letter and a ring for him inside Hia’s uniform pocket. The moment he opened the folded letter “It’s Hia’s hand writing...” making him clutch the paper and the ring to his chest like his life was depended on it. Nunew took his time reading Zee’s first and last letter to him.
“To My Angel Nunew,
I was hoping you won’t get to read this but if you were reading my letter already please don’t be too sad. I may not be by your side anymore but your favorite Hia will always be your guide. I’m so sorry that I can’t come back home (say sorry to July for me, I bet he won’t even miss me. Haha.) I’m sorry that Hia didn’t get to propose to you like I was planning to. I doubt you knew my plan but now you know. I hope I didn’t get you to disappointed. Please forgive Hia for being unable to hold your hand now and walk with you until we grow old like I promised when I first said I love you. Thank you for loving me na krub. Even though there were times that I feel I don’t deserve your love and you deserve so much better, you deserve only happiness. Thank you for not giving up on me, for loving Hia unconditionally but please don’t be too hang up on me. I’m not yet ready to let you go but I don’t have the right to hold you if I can’t be with you. So I’m letting you go now, my angel Nu. I’ll get to see a lot of angels up here but you’ll always be my forever favorite, Chawarin Panich. I love you na krub. It’s Always You in my heart,”
“I’ll always Be Yours, Hia.”
