Work Text:
Compliant Letter
~reckless noona~
The Jade Empress stared at the two of them in anger. She had called them to her office, and they arrived together, and it had been fifteen minutes and they were still looking at each other and smiling. She had kept their chairs apart for a reason, but lack of proximity made no difference to the two.
“Don’t you guys ever get tired?” Jade Empress asked.
“What do you mean, Director?” Joong-gil questioned.
“You know the number of complaints I have received during the last few months?”
“What sort of complaints?” Ryeon piped up.
The Jade Empress exhaled and read out a letter.
“Respected Director.
I am writing to you because I am no longer able to tolerate this behavior. I will list down some instances which I find have made it impossible for me to work in peace in Jumadong.
Team Leader Park literally runs out of the office at six to pick up his wife in her department. Once or twice can be a coincidence, but it happens every day despite how heavy the workloads are for any department that day.
Team Leader Koo always chooses to submit her department’s report herself, and then they remain busy in the office for hours doing whatever they do. I am not suggesting they do anything inappropriate, but that’s because I want to keep it professional.
Whenever Team Leader Park accidentally (he says) ends up near where Team Leader Koo is working, and they make that eye contact and make all other employees feel like a third wheeler. Once, we literally disappeared for two hours and they didn’t even notice.
I don’t want to be cruel, but if they already share their quarters, can’t they cut it out during office hours at least?
I request you to take appropriate action.
Regards.”
“Is that a crime?” Joong-gil asked, coldly. “I don’t think there was anything against fraternization in the company code, the last time I read it.”
“It is not a crime,” Jade Empress sighed. “Since we never expected a couple to end up working here together.”
The couple relaxed. Jade Empress continued, glaring daggers at the two.
“You guys should understand. Not every couple ends up together here, people are not used to,” she pointed at them, “whatever you are doing these days.”
“That’s hardly our fault, Director.” Ryeon was the voice of reason. “It’s not like we chose this destiny.”
“All my work is done on time, Director,” Joong-gil said, sitting up straight and adjusting his coat. “If I have some free time, it should not matter to anyone who I spend it with.”
Ryeon looked at him, nodding, and they shared another loving gaze. The Jade Empress was done with their shit.
“You have been married for four hundred years,” she complained, “at least tone it down.”
“Maybe it will be less of a bother if I can join the RM team,” Joong-gil suggested. “If the complaint is by an Escort Team employee, then they can feel better under a new boss and-”
“Can’t happen,” Ryeon sighed.
“Why?”
It was Jade Empress’s turn to chuckle. “Who do you think has sent this letter anyway?”
Mr. Lim Ryung-gu was in his office, working on another feedback letter. He felt a shiver down his spine and ran for his life before an angry grim reaper appeared in his office.
