Notes:

Thank you for joining me on another journey of Katsuki and Izuku being complete idiots about their feelings for each other! I'm a sucker for Soft and Protective Katsuki and I hope you love this story as much as I've loved writing it!

Chapter 1: What Did I Miss?

Summary:

"I’m sorry!” Katsuki turned around and wrapped his arms around him. “I missed you. A fucking lot. Let me at least buy you dinner!”

Izuku hated how Katsuki’s scent was so comforting. He was angry at him for so many years. Angry and bitter at everyone, yet, being enveloped in his arms was like a security blanket he didn’t know he needed.

“I can’t.” He whispered shakily. “I have work tonight.”

Chapter Text

Katsuki was a proud alpha soldier. He was finally done with that god awful war and moved to a city not too far from his hometown. Unlike his colleagues, he was one of the few who didn’t drown his sorrows in alcohol but, he still had to join them in their outings. That’s how he ended up in this seedy ass show omega lounge with his closest friends and colleagues Kirishima Eijiro and Kaminari Denki.

“Come on, Relax!” Eijiro encouraged him, shoving a beer his way as a little omega wearing next to nothing danced on stage while alphas gawked.

“I’m just here to keep you out of fucking trouble.” Katsuki rolled his eyes.

“You know Kats,” Denki leaned in, reeking of alcohol. “They say that the omegas here have business cards. If you wanna get a little ‘aftershow’” He wiggled his eyebrows.

“Fucking pass.” Katsuki scoffed.

“You’re no fun man.” Eijiro giggled as he swigged a giant mug of beer. “When’s the last time you got laid?”

“Doesn’t matter. Just do what you gross pigs came here to do so I can go home already.” Katsuki rolled his eyes.

“Alright Alright!” A woman with long black hair and glasses walked on stage. “Thank Chika-Chan! She did a wonderful job! But we all know who you’re here to see! The main event is coming up!” She announced as the room of horny alphas hooted and hollered. “He’s here for one night only!”

“I hear this omega is like, the sexiest.” Denki whispered to his friends.

“I also heard he has a very lucrative ‘business’ if ya know what I mean.” Eijiro winked back at him. Katsuki hated places like this. A bunch of riled up alphas made him wanna throw up.

“Everyone!” The woman waved her hand dramatically. “Welcome! Our esteemed guest! Everyone’s favorite little bunny, Deku!” She cheered as a small green haired omega wearing black rabbit ears and barely there green lingerie walked up to the microphone as the whole room erupted.

Katsuki felt like his whole world completely stopped as the omega grabbed the microphone and shyly tested it. He knew that omega! That was his childhood friend, Midoriya Izuku! What the fuck was he doing here?!

“Hi everyone. Thank you for welcoming me.” Izuku said sweetly. “I have a song to sing for you if you don’t mind.” He cleared his throat.

“God what a beauty.” Denki sighed.

“He seems shy too, but look at what he’s wearing.” Eijiro snickered.

Katsuki had been through hell and back with these guys but at that moment he wanted to murder them. Izuku began to sing and the alphas at the front row were getting rowdy. They seemed to be particularly wasted.

“Put your mouth to better use sweetheart!” One shouted as Izuku kept singing trying to brush them off.

“Hey! Don’t ignore us! Over here!” Another shouted. Izuku tried to ignore them but one grabbed his robe making him trip.

“Hey! Cut it out!” Izuku snapped.

“Don’t get snappy with us, you little whore!”

At that point, Katsuki lost it. He rushed the stage before grabbing the alpha who dared to insult him by the shirt and socked him in the face.
“Hey!” One of the alphas' friends shouted before Katsuki punched him too. He then kicked his other friend in the stomach for good measure before turning around, grabbing Izuku and bolting out of the club.

“Huh?! Hey! Stop! Put me down!” Izuku screamed as Katsuki ran outside. Izuku then took a big whiff of the alpha who was currently kidnapping him and recognized his scent. He would know it anywhere.

“K-KACCHAN?!” He gawked before Katsuki stopped when they were far enough away and plopped him on the sidewalk.

“Long time no see.” Katsuki huffed. He then took off his coat and wrapped it around the omega who looked at him with anger.

“What did you just do?!” Izuku flailed his hands.

“Huh?! What do you mean? I just saved your ass! What were you even doing up there?!”

“My job! And I can handle myself!” Izuku snapped.

“Clearly! Those bastards were about to eat you alive! You know what this club is FOR, right?!” Katsuki could not believe how naive Deku still was.

“I’m not stupid Kacchan! I know exactly what it’s for!” Izuku sighed before mouthing profanities to himself. “Fuck it.” Izuku hit his head over and over again. “I already lost out on my tips. You got a lighter?” He pulled out a cigarette that was stored in his garter.

“No, I don’t smoke.” Katsuki blinked, bewildered that Izuku did. Growing up, he was the sweetest kid. Even in High School, he always tried to do the right thing. Had the highest grades, was popular, part of the student council and everything so what was he doing here?!

“Of course you don’t. I figured the war at least might have you loosen up.” Izuku shrugged. “Glad you survived. Hey!” He pranced up to a tall, rough looking alpha and batted his eyelashes at him. “You don’t happen to have a lighter do you?”

“For you?” The guy grabbed one out of his pocket and lit the cigarette Izuku was holding slowly before placing it in his mouth. “‘Course I do.”

“Thanks.” Izuku huffed before sliding what looked like a business card in the man’s pocket and winking at him. Then he walked back to Katsuki after taking a deep drag of his cigarette. Katsuki could not believe what he just witnessed.

“I got the rest of the day now.” Deku smiled. His demeanor completely changed after having his nicotine. “Shall we go for a walk?” He sparkled like he was still the bright eyed bushy tailed teenager that Katsuki remembered. “It really is good to see you again.”

“Sure.” Katsuki said, beside himself as the omega grabbed his hand.

Izuku led him through the city to a local outlet, walking hand in hand like they used to when they were kids.

“I have to say, Kacchan. I was surprised to see you there.” He giggled. “But I guess an alpha’s an alpha afterall.”

“I wasn’t there for me.” Katsuki groaned. “I was there making sure two dumbasses I’m acquainted with don’t make fucking idiots of themselves.” He explained.

“And yet you’re the one who kidnapped the main act, huh?” Izuku teased him.

“Deku!” Katsuki snatched the bunny ears off his head. “What the fuck happened to you?”

Izuku’s smile fell as he glared harshly at the alpha before snatching the ears back.

“Nothing. I’m fine.” He said before taking another drag of his cigarette. “There’s few options for unmated omegas you know. So I took the best one for me.”

Katsuki clicked his teeth. He couldn’t help but think of Eijiro and Denki’s snickers.

“I also heard he has a very lucrative business if ya know what I mean.”

“Are you-”

“Hm?” Izuku tilted his head as he saw the pained look in Katsuki’s eyes.

“Are you..doing more than just singing?”

Izuku sighed before putting out his cigarette. “Why? You feel sorry for me? Because you don’t need to.” He said as he looked off to the side.

“What can I do?” Katsuki grabbed his arms, making him look at him. “You don’t have to do that Deku! Not anymore!”

“I don’t have to, Kacchan! I want to! I don’t need your help!” Izuku snapped as he pulled himself away.

“I have a nice place! You can stay with me! You don’t have to pay me anything, I-” The alpha said desperately.

“Stop! I don’t need to rely on you, or anyone else!” Izuku sighed before grabbing Katsuki’s wrist and pulling him forward. “Come with me.”

“Where are we going?” Katsuki questioned. Deku may have been small but he was a lot stronger than Katsuki remembered him.

“Disneyland.” Izuku said sarcastically as he hailed a taxi. Katsuki reluctantly got in as Izuku pulled him in the car.

“1214 Hanabi Street Please” He told the driver who nodded before looking at the two skeptically, rolling his eyes in disgust at the soldier sneaking off with a likely prostitute.

“When did you get back?” Izuku questioned as he leaned close to Katsuki. So close, the alpha was becoming overwhelmed by his scent. He hadn’t seen Deku in five years, but even when he saw the little nerd every day, it didn’t make his vanilla pinecone scent any less enticing.

“L-last week.” Katsuki stuttered before rolling down the window. “I moved to the city last week.” He clarified. “War’s finally done. So got myself a place. Gonna help with Dad’s side branch over here.”

“I didn’t know Uncle Masaru had business out here.” Izuku mused.

“Yah. It’s new.”

“What about your Mom, huh?” Katsuki questioned. “She know about your little ‘business’?”

“It depends.” Izuku mused.

“Depends?” Katsuki raised his eyebrow.

“On if you think it’s true that the dead watch over us. In that case, she might know.” Deku smiled sadly.

Katsuki froze. “Shit. When did she-”

“The night you left.” Izuku balled his fists tightly.

“Fuck. I’m sorry. I didn’t know.” Katsuki sighed.

“You also didn’t ask.” The omega chuckled to himself. “I was worried, you know. There were lots of news articles about people getting letters or emails from their friends and family fighting in the war. But I didn’t get a single letter from you. I even sent you some birthday cards. But I never heard back. To be fair, Auntie never heard from you either.”

Katsuki held onto those cards fondly. In some of his darkest moments, they kept him alive. But he never felt worthy enough to write back. As a soldier, he had to take many lives. He thought he could do it. It’s a necessity for peace after all, but each life he took haunted him.

“Sorry.” Katsuki huffed out. “It’s not an excuse but…I was busy.”

“I figured.” Izuku smiled at him before grabbing his hand.

“We’re here, kids.” The taxi driver announced as he pulled up to a large skyscraper luxury apartment building.

“Thank you!” Izuku beamed before handing the driver a wad of cash he had in his bralette. The two walked in the building which was in a much nicer part of the city.

“What is this place?” Katsuki questioned as they got on the elevator.

“My apartment!” The omega said gleefully. They got to the highest floor and Izuku led the alpha to his apartment. He grabbed his key card and led him inside. Katsuki blinked at the beautifully spacious unit. It was a studio apartment but it was huge.

“This is where you live?” Katsuki asked, beside himself.

“Mmhmm!” Izuku spread his arms out, presenting his home proudly. “I pay for this all myself! So no, I don’t want to leave my business anytime soon. I’m happy with how I live. So you don’t have to worry about me.”

“Are you really happy Deku?” Katsuki gawked. “You’re really alright with a new alpha’s knot up your ass every night?!” He was shaking. He couldn’t fathom that the shy boy who used to shrivel away in embarrassment at any alpha who even attempted to COURT him would let himself be used for money.

“First of all,” Izuku held up one finger. “All my clients are regulars. I only get new clients when one of them no longer needs my services. Second of all,” He held up a second finger. “I vet all of my clients CAREFULLY. It’s MY business. I don’t work for anyone but myself. And finally,” Deku held up his third finger. “I happen to enjoy myself with each and every one of them. So yes, I’m HAPPY.”

“Then why are you digging your nails into your thigh?!” Katsuki questioned as Izuku tensed up. “I’ve known you forever. You only do that when you lie. Why’d you go through the trouble of bringing me here, huh?” Katsuki pushed further. “If you were really happy, you would just fucking say it and stand by it. You’re not happy Deku. And you don’t have to keep doing this!”

“You don’t know anything!” Izuku screamed. “You don’t know the first thing about what I’ve had to go through! You left me! Just like Dad! Just like mom! Just like everyone fucking does! And…and that’s fine! Because I don’t need you. I don’t need anyone! I’m fine!” Izuku began to push him out of the door.

“Wait! Hold on Deku!” Katsuki stood his ground as Izuku tried to push him further out the door.

“Go!” The small omega struggled.

“No! I’m sorry, okay?! I’m sorry!” Katsuki turned around and wrapped his arms around him.

“No.” Katsuki growled. “No you fucking don’t. Come with me to dinner.”

“You can’t tell me what to do, Kacchan. I have work. So just…go!” He felt himself tremble when Katsuki’s scent began to emanate anger.

“Please.” Izuku’s voice strained.

“Hey hey hey.” Katsuki took a deep breath to collect himself as Izuku began to reek of distress. “I’m not gonna hurt you. Hey. I’d NEVER hurt you.”

“I- I’m fine.” Izuku said as his body betrayed him and tears fell out of his eyes. “Please just…Don’t be mad.”

“Deku.” Katsuki gently reached to wipe the tears off his eyes, making him flinch. “Shh…I’m not mad AT YOU.”

“I’m sorry I disappointed you.” Izuku sighed, finally collecting himself. “But this is my life.”

“It doesn’t have to be.” Katsuki whispered.

“I’d rather it be, than depending on someone I can’t count on.” Izuku said firmly. “It was nice to see you again. If you can get over what I do, I’d love to take you up on that dinner sometime.” He said before firmly shoving Katsuki out the door and slamming it shut.

“De-!” Katsuki called before noticing something in his pocket. He pulled it out and realized Izuku slipped his business card in there with his email and phone number.

The alpha sighed in a complete daze as he got in the elevator.

“Kacchan!”

He remembered Izuku smiling brightly as Katsuki snuck him out of his house to play as a child.

“Were you crying again Deku?” Katsuki asked him when he noticed his puffy eyes.

“Mmhmm…Papa hurt Mama again.”

“Want me to kill him?!” Katsuki questioned.

Izuku shook his head ‘no.’ “Mama says if we lose Papa, we won’t have money and we’ll have to beg on the street for bread.”

“That’s dumb.” Katsuki crossed his arms. “I’d never let that happen to you.”

“Really?” Izuku blinked.

“Yeah!” Katsuki grabbed his hand.

“I’ll be there for you no matter what!” The young boy declared.

“I’m really lucky then.” Izuku smiled in relief. “God sent me an Angel.”

“I’m not an Angel!” Katsuki rolled his eyes. “Devils are cooler. I’ll use my powers to send anyone who hurts you straight to hell!”

“I’m glad I can depend on you then.” Deku said in relief. “You’re the only thing left I can.”

“Whatever” Katsuki blushed. “Let’s go watch TV.”

Katsuki cursed himself as he walked out of the elevator, staring at the business card before he accidentally bumped into someone.

“Sorry.” The other guy with red and white hair said as he reached down and grabbed the business card Katsuki dropped.

“Give me that!” Katsuki grabbed the card swiftly.

“You’re new.” The guy leered at him.

“Huh?” Katsuki blinked.

“I told him not to get a new client.” He sighed. “I’ll pay him double. Don’t call him.” The alpha angrily demanded. “Or they’ll be trouble for you. You understand?”

“Who the fuck do you think you are?” Katsuki seethed.

“Much MORE than just a client. I’ll make your life hell.” He threatened. Katsuki then pieced together what was going on. This was the asshole who Deku was seeing tonight.

“You fuckhe-” He went to pull his hair before the guy kicked him straight in the knot. Katsuki doubled over in pain as the guy got in the elevator.

“Remember what I said.” The guy leered with his heterochromatic eyes as the elevator doors shut.

Katsuki felt a deep pain in his chest, his groin, and his lungs. Damn that bastard. He may have won today but Katsuki was not giving up. He may have let Deku down but he was done doing that.

Deku better watch out because the Devil he prayed for is back and he’s just getting fucking started.
