Work Text:
It was a rainy day in Seattle. The sun had just begun to rise, when Derek’s alarm clock went off, startling both Derek and Meredith awake. “Shut it off!” Meredith groaned, pulling a pillow over her head, while shifting over to her side a bit more, cradling her pregnancy pillow closer to her body. She was halfway through her pregnancy and it has gotten harder for her to get comfortable at night, trying to find a position in which her unborn baby wouldn’t press down on her bladder too bad, while also being at least a bit comfortable. Her husband often provided the best opportunity to get comfortable. So, in the nights when he wasn’t available, because of some surgery, she often couldn’t sleep and therefore was really cranky the morning after. He had gotten her a pregnancy pillow for those kinds of nights and even though she’d never admit it, it was a blessing for her. Still, the more she progressed in her pregnancy, the harder she fought to fall asleep. And so, she wasn’t too happy to get interrupted in the morning by the monster of an alarm clock.
Derek turned around and shut the alarm clock off quickly, not wanting to be the target of his wife’s wrath. He knew that it was taking its toll out of her, adjusting to the pregnancy, being a full-time surgeon and mother to their daughter Zola already, all while being busy growing another human inside her. He tried his best to comfort her throughout the day, offering back and foot rubs and trying to get her off of her feet, doing the hover-y thing. He knew she hated being smothered, but he just couldn’t turn his concern off for her. She did have a hostile uterus after all and he couldn’t bear the thought that something could happen to either her or their miracle baby.
He leaned over to his wife and stroked her hair, removing a strand from her face with the soft touch of his fingertips. He kissed her cheek, it was all he could reach from his position, since her back faced him. “Sorry. Just continue sleeping, while Zola is still blessing us with quiet. If we won’t meet downstairs, then I’ll see you later at the hospital.” Meredith just grunted as response, still too sleepy to form an adequate response. Derek then retreated to his side, sighed and threw his blankets back, tucking them around Meredith in a loving gesture before getting up.
After walking in the bathroom and relieving himself, he looked at his reflection in the mirror, contemplating if he should shave or not. He wasn’t really in the mood, after all it was very early in the morning, but he knew how much Meredith despised his stubble and the pregnancy only seemed to have worsened that. Sighing, he decided to shower first and then shave later.
Freshly showered and shaved exactly the way Meredith liked it, he descended to the kitchen, quickly whipping up a bowl of muesli and a cup of coffee. He liked eating breakfast before going to work, much in contrary to Meredith, who often had her breakfast on the way to work or at work in general. He shook his head. His mother had raised all her five kids that it was important to get breakfast in the morning to “maintain their spirits” as she always had called it. The tradition to sit down and have at least a small breakfast had stuck with him, despite him being a grown man. After finishing up his breakfast, he cleaned the table and the used dishes before popping in the bathroom to brush his teeth and combing through his hair one more time, setting the curls just right. Everyone was always teasing him about his hair, but he actually was very sensitive about it and spent a lot of time making it look presentable. He had had times in high school in which he was laughed at lots of times and he’d never admit it, but he had struggled with acceptance for his hair a long time, often hating and cursing it. So, he did his best to never get back to that time again. And if he had to put some effort and time (okay, A LOT of effort and time) into it, then so be it. Anything was better than to be some laughing stock.
He collected his briefcase, keys and his ferry boat scrub cap, which had needed a wash and after putting on a coat and shoes, he left the house.
On the drive towards Grey Sloan, he thought about the day ahead. He was supposed to meet with Dr. Arden Davis, up and coming ophthalmologic surgeon to plan a surgery for a patient with a tumour in her frontal lobe that had infiltrated the optic nerve and the left eyeball itself. The patient was a woman in her sixties and had just become a first-time grandma to twin boys, so he really wanted to minimize the damage by working together with one of the bests in the field of ophthalmologic surgery. He hadn’t met Dr. Davis before, but from what he heard, she was one of the bests and he had read an article about her before. He was very inquired to meet her and get to know the woman behind that article. Professionally speaking of course. He had already found his soulmate, with which he wanted to have a life time together until they were old, smelly and senile. They had a daughter and another baby coming soon and he didn’t want to replace them for anything. This had always been his dream and he wouldn’t throw his second chance away.
Derek turned into the driveway and parked on the spot that was marked with “Head of neurosurgery”, a title he wore with pride. He got out of the car and entered the hospital, exchanging a few ‘hellos’ and smiles with the staff. He had always been very popular among the staff. People liked working with him. Even though he had an ego the size of Texas, he was always very considerate and easy-going. He never separated doctors and nurses into higher and lower positions, a trait that was sadly not common among hospital staff. Derek never was the person to divide his respect into different choices of jobs. He also didn’t like to walk around being grumpy. He believed that making efforts would always come back to him, when it was needed, another thing his mother taught him. Be kind and the world will pay you back some time.
After entering the attending’s lounge and getting to his locker, he quickly changed into his navy-blue scrubs and shrugged his white lab coat on. Derek took his stethoscope from the locker door, uncovering an image that was stuck there with a thin stripe of sticky tape. It showed Meredith and Zola at one of their infamous tea parties. Meredith was smiling brightly into the camera, one hand on their daughter’s back who herself was busy arranging little cups and plates on the small table in front of them. On the right side of the photograph hung another one, this one showing another one of his kids in grey, white and black shapes. He traced the outline of his son’s face with his index finger, barely being able to contain the grin that formed on his mouth. Happiness bubbled out of him at the thought of the tiny baby that would be their newest addition to their family in a few months. He barely could await his arrival anymore, but knew he had to be patient. Until then, he just spoke to Meredith’s stomach every night, wanting his son to get to know him already.
Derek shook his head, trying to get out of his day dream. He had patients to get to and a surgery to plan. He collected the rest of his equipment, his pen flashlight, some pens, a small notebook and his badge, which he clipped on to the pocked of his lab coat. Derek shut the locker and looked at his watch. It was 6: 09 am. Dr. Davis was supposed to arrive at the hospital at 7 am, giving him a good 45 minutes to check up on his other patients and maybe already send their surgical patient to get films of the tumour situation they were dealing with. Usually, he’d start with getting her medical history, but assumed that Dr. Davis wanted to do the same and since their patient was already admitted the day before, he could easily send her up to get a CT and an MRI.
The next time he looked at his watch again, it was 6:54, giving him a few minutes until he had to meet up with his new colleague. He made his way to his office in which he would await Dr. Davis to discuss the plans for the surgery. He had also reserved the neurosurgical skill lab for later, so they could try out their premade plans.
He had just sat down in his office chair, when it knocked at his door. “Come on in!” he announced, sorting his papers on his desk. He had always a bit of a mess going on, even though he desperately tried not to. He glanced up, when someone entered his office.
A young woman with tanned skin and curly hair that was swept up in an updo smiled at him. “Hi, I’m Arden Davis! Are you Derek Sheperd?”
“Yes, that’s me, welcome Dr. Davis! Thank you so much for coming.” Derek greeted her politely, getting up and holding his hand out towards her.
Arden closed the door behind her, walked up to him and shook his hand. “Dr. Sheperd. It’s very nice to meet you. I was looking forward to working with the almighty Derek Sheperd.”
Derek chuckled, releasing her hand. “We’ll be working together pretty closely and will spend quite some time together. No need for formalities on my part. I’m Derek.”
Arden’s smile widened. “I’m Arden. You know, you’re pretty easy-going. People say you have a bit of an ego.”
Derek snorted. “Well, I’ve been told so too. But why won’t you be the judge of that after our surgery?” Arden nodded. “I didn’t want to be rude, I’m sorry.” Derek smiled. “You weren’t.”
After a moment of uncomfortable silence, Derek cleared his throat. “So, you wanna get to know our patient?” Arden nodded, taking a seat and taking the offered file, reading through the medical histories, notes and lab results.
Derek loosened his tie a bit, feeling a little bit warm, but wrote it off to his stressful morning. He sat down in his chair across Arden, sorting through his papers awkwardly once more, so as not to watch her read the file. She was a pretty young thing, he had to admit. Not that she’d interest him. He belonged to Meredith wholeheartedly. He let his gaze wander to the family picture on his desk, hidden from plain view. It showed a picture of their family as three. It wasn’t that old. If you stared at it long enough, you could just make out a small bump on Meredith’s behalf. His mother had been begging them for new pictures and he just couldn’t resist her on that wish. He knew that his mother had been waiting for grandchildren of her son for a long time and he didn’t want to deny her anything that concerned his kids.
Arden’s voice tore him out of his thoughts. “Okay so what would you suggest for the surgery?” She moved the chair, so that it sat next to him and put the file on the desk before them, while snatching a piece of paper and a pen from across the desk. She quickly sketched a copy of the CT and MRI films that accompanied the file onto the paper. The smell of her perfume wavered into Derek’s nose, the smell being fruity and spicy. It matched her personality. So far, he could tell she was quirky and direct. He enjoyed her presence. He liked honest people with a sharp mind. They often had a unique way of seeing things and were usually creative, but in a smart way.
Derek snatched a red pen out of the pencil holder and interfered with her sketch. “So, I was thinking…” They started discussing different indications, different ways to get to the tumour itself and theories about what they would find as soon as they opened the patient up.
Together, they worked out a strategy on how to remove the tumour with as little damage as it was possible. “From what it looks like, I won’t be able to save the distal part of the optic nerve.” Arden said, a certain darkness clouded her honey-coloured eyes. “But maybe I can save the eyeball itself. It would be easier for her. It’s harder for a person to live with a prosthetic eye than with one that doesn’t work. I’ll have to see. What about you?”
“Since the tumour is located in the front lobe and we’ll have to remove a part of the optic nerve, I’m tempted to have Mrs. Martin be awake during the surgery. That way I could have her speak and therefore know when I’m near the Broca-Centre. But I also got to know her already and she seems to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. Her husband died because of malpractice. That’s why she delayed her visit to the doctor even with obvious symptoms of something being wrong and I don’t know if I want to put her through that.” He propped his chin up with his hand, feeling a slight headache coming up.
“Well, you can assume all you want, but we won’t find anything out without talking to her, right? It’s amazing what the human body can work through, when the person itself is motivated to make it. I say we talk to her first, before we wrack our own brains by trying to find an optimal solution for everyone.” She cocked her head to the side, looking up at him.
“You on board?” She asked him, sensing his discomfort.
“Yes, yes I’m fine. You’re right. Let’s talk to her. Afterwards, we can go to skills lab to try different approaches. I reserved it for the whole day.” He answered, straightening his body back up and tidying up the strewn papers in front of them.
They spent an hour talking to Mrs. Martin, asking her about her medical history, recent problems and about different possibilities for the surgery. She had been pretty overwhelmed, so both Derek and Arden thought it was best to leave her thinking about it. She had promised to call her daughter, with whom she was very close and to clear her thoughts out.
In the meantime, Derek and Arden made their way to the skills lab, trying different techniques on the model brain there, controlling their actions via computer and the help of neuro monitoring.
They lost themselves in their work, not noticing the time flying by. They talked throughout the whole procedure and laughed together. He was able to show her a few tricks that he had picked up in his years of practice and she was really grateful for his help. When Arden glanced up at the clock, she was actually surprised at how much time had gone by. “Not that I wouldn’t enjoy this, but it’s way past lunch time and I could eat a horse right now. Wanna go grab some lunch with me?” She pulled off her gloves, put her hand on his arm and smiled at him innocently. Derek hesitated a bit, glancing at her hand on his arm. “Sure.” He replied, pulling his arms away and ridding them from the gloves.
They both grabbed their stuff and went to the cafeteria, chatting as if nothing had happened before. They sat together at a table, talking about medical professions and their best surgeries this far. Derek had almost forgotten the weird moment before, when Arden moved her chair close to his and showed him something on her photo, leaning slightly into him. She laughed at him and looked in his eyes.
Derek was sure everybody’s eyes were on them in that moment. He cleared his throat, scooting away from her a bit with his chair and forced himself to smile at the picture the small screen of her phone provided. “You know, I’m going to head back to the skills lab. You can finish your lunch in peace though. You can call me, when you don’t find the way back.” He tore a page out of his notebook, scribbled his phone number on it and handed it to her.
“Thanks, but I’ll join you immediately. I’m not hungry anymore.” She replied. He resisted the urge to sigh. “Great, then I can just…” He meant to stuff the page with his phone number away in his pocket, but she had already snatched it out of his hand. “Or not…” He mumbled, too polite to say anything else. He gathered his tray and trash, put it away and turned to the exit, feeling the ever-persistent presence of Arden next to him.
She was chatting the whole way back too, telling Derek all about her home, her parents and her work in Atlanta.
As soon as they arrived in the lab and the door was shut, he interrupted her speech. “Okay Arden! I don’t know what that was about in the cafeteria. I like talking to you very much, we get along quite well and you’re really nice. But I don’t have any interest in you. I am married very happily and I have children. I’m sorry if it came across as if I wanted something more. I merely want to come up with a plan for a surgery for Mrs. Martin so she can go back to her family tumour-free.”
Arden looked at him with wide eyes. “I didn’t intend on making this weird. I’m sorry. I was just having a good time. I tend to grow quickly on people. I’m apologizing Derek. Truly.”
Derek nodded a few times. “It’s okay. Let’s just get back to working on a plan for our surgery. I don’t want Mrs. Martin to wait longer than she has to.” He snapped on gloves and picked up his tools. Arden soon joined him, but was quiet for a moment.
“You know… Maybe you are really arrogant after all. Thinking every woman who is a bit friendly to you wants to get into your pants.” Arden smirked at him. Derek snorted. “Oh of course, I’M the arrogant one.” Arden laughed and Derek joined her shortly after.
They discussed some more ideas, sticking their heads together to come up with a solution.
When someone pushed open the door, both of them glanced up to see Meredith entering the room.
“Uhm… Hi! Uhm, Derek?” she seemed stunned for a moment, before collecting herself and looking at her husband. “Can I talk to you for a second? It’s urgent.”
Derek furrowed his brows together and looked at her with worry. A sinking sensation started to form in his stomach. Evil thoughts about miscarriage or any other problems infiltrated his brain, setting his nerves on fire. “Is something wrong?” He slipped the gloves off his hands, striding over to Meredith.
Meredith quickly shook her head. “No… Just… It’s urgent, I need to speak to you.”
Derek raked his fingers through his hair, nodding quickly. “Yes of course. Arden, excuse me.”
Meredith exited the room, Derek following closely behind her, not caring where she went. He just wanted to know what the matter was with his wife.
He followed her into an on-call room, closing the door behind him.
As soon as he turned around, he found Meredith’s face right in front of him, pressing her lips to his desperately. She reached behind him to lock the door and put her hands behind his neck, grasping the curls at the nape of his neck and pulling him even closer to her.
Derek gasped. “Oh… this… this was urgent?” he asked her between kisses.
“Oh yes.” Meredith answered. “These stupid pregnancy hormones make me wanna have sex all the time.”
“Mhmm, I like the stupid pregnancy hormones.” Derek said, slightly out of breath.
Meredith grinned, her hands sliding down his muscular back until they reached his behind, digging her fingers into his flesh. She urged him to move towards one of the beds, pushing him on said bed and climbing over him, one leg on either side of him. Leaning down towards his face, she kissed him passionately, her right hand travelling down to his scrub pants.
She started kissing his jaw, cheek and sucked on his neck, while her hand worked on the ties of his scrub pants.
“Oh… don’t get me wrong… I love this.” Derek panted, warm sensations coiling in his stomach.
“But… ohh I like that too…” He whispered, when her hand dived into his pants and boxers, cupping him without a barrier between them.
“Then shut up. Do you want to do the talking or do you want me to do this?” She squinted her eyes at him, squeezing him lightly. Derek gasped, body arching upwards.
“Talk later.” He was panting, feeling himself harden in Meredith’s grasp.
Meredith smirked. “I thought so.”
She then proceeded sucking at his neck, while alternating between stroking and squeezing him. Her left hand snaked itself into his hair, tousling it in the process.
Derek groaned and slipped his hands under Meredith’s scrub top, shrugging it higher and higher until Meredith sat up and tore if off. She threw it away, not caring where it went. All she could care about was her panting husband lying beneath her, looking up at her with wide eyes and darkened irises, while his erection poked her in the thigh.
Meredith leaned back on her knees, relieving him of her weight on his pelvis. Seducingly, she tugged at the ties of his scrub pants, undoing them and tugging the pants down his thighs and let them pool just underneath his knees, limiting his mobility. She licked her lips at the sight of his groin, his erection straining against his tight dark blue boxers. Her fingers slid up the skin of his thighs, causing goosebumps on the firm skin. She slipped her fingers under the waistband of his boxers, slightly easing off the tension of the fabric on his erect penis. When she let it snap back against the sensible skin, he let out a loud gasp, his body arching upwards. “Meredith!” he exclaimed, slightly out of breath.
She giggled, looking up at his handsome face and stroked his left cheek. Derek dug his fingers into her hips, wanting to press her against his straining body. But she took his large hands into her small ones, putting them against his sides and moving them upwards, effectively raising his scrub top up to reveal his abs and chest expanding with rapidly taken breaths. She interlaced her fingers with his, pushing his arms up besides his head, while leaning down and lavishing his chest and nipples with little licks and bites, making him moan. When he started jerking his hips upward to gain a little bit friction, she paused her actions and slowly slid down his body, leaving a trail of kisses behind until she reached his navel. She swirled her tongue around his navel, teasing his lower stomach that was peppered with soft dark curly hair leading down into his boxers.
Derek panted, nerves strung high from anticipation of what was inevitably coming next. He lay perfectly still, knowing that Meredith had grown to like being on top and in control ever since they had found out she was expecting.
Meredith released his hands from her grip, letting her nimble fingers slip under the waistband of his boxers, lifting it up and slid it down his groin and thighs, letting them join his pants at his knees. Derek sighed, when his straining erection was released and cool air flowed over his exposed groin. He didn’t feel much cold air for long though, since Meredith hovered over his most private parts with her face, blowing warm air on the head. Derek, not expecting this, let out a long moan, closing his eyes in the process. Meredith grinned, gripping the base of him with her right hand and squeezed, while enveloping the head of his penis with her rosy lips, tasting him and licking up the drop of precum that had started to form on her husband’s erection. Derek let out a howl, biting his lip to prevent from screaming out from the sweet torture his wife was inflicting on him.
Meredith sucked on the sensitive, velvety tip softly, lavishing her husband’s most sensitive body part with attention. Her tongue caressed the slit on his penis before switching her attention to his shaft, bobbing her head up and down, letting Derek slip further into her mouth.
Derek moaned again, muscles straining as every nerve was strung tight, erected to the brim. He tried to move, but Meredith’s weight on his legs and his scrub pants that had collected just under his knees prevented him from doing so.
His left hand wandered into her hair, pushing it up and out of the way from where it had been tickling the soft skin on his hips. He might have pulled a little, since Meredith let out a small mewl, the vibrations going straight to Derek’s penis and the breath was knocked out of him. His mouth shaped itself into a perfect ‘o’, unable to form any coherent thought. Heat collected into his lower stomach, setting his nerves on fire. He didn’t think he could last any longer.
“Mer… Mer..” he panted, making her pause his actions and looked up at him, but not leaving his penis. When he glanced down at her, still with his dick in her mouth, he almost came right here and then just from the sight and the sensation her warm mouth was providing his body with.
“I…I’m so close!” he gasped, tugging her hair. Meredith let go of his penis with a pop, kissing it one more time and quickly undressed. She took his hands in hers and raised them above his head, linking their fingers and pressing his hands into the pillow, making him immobile. She settled over his groin with her hips, feeling his erection stroking her wet folds already. She gasped, still hovering over him. “Meredith!” he cried out, jerking his hips upwards, impatient to wait anymore.
She leaned down and looked in his eyes that were usually steel blue, but now were dark as the sea at night, darkened by his desire for her. It made her love him even more. In one, swift motion, she sunk down on him, enveloping her husband’s erection into her damp heat. They both moaned at the contact, fitting together like puzzle pieces.
Meredith hovered over him, not moving yet. She was savouring the pure feeling of him safely nestled inside of her, stretching her inner walls.
Derek groaned, pushing his head into the pillow beneath him. “Mer… you’re killing me…”
She smiled wickedly, enjoying the tortured look her husband showered her with. She hesitated a few more seconds before rapidly rocking her hips forward once, making Derek groan. She picked up a steady rhythm, slow and steady while moving her hips in an 8-figure motion. She moaned when her husband’s erection hit her g-spot, over and over again. Her pace quickened, sweat had started to form on their bodies evenly, making the gliding against each other even easier.
The air around them flickered with heat and passion, the only thing that was heard were their pleasure filled moans and the light slapping of skin on skin.
After a particular hard thrust, Meredith threw her head back, putting her chest fully on display for Derek. His dick inside her twitched and he panted, struggling against her hold. He could overpower her tiny, ineffectual fists anytime, but he tried to restrain himself. He began jerking his hips upwards to meet her thrusts, making the contact oh so much more intense. The muscles in his thighs contracted, shaking a little from the effort.
“Derek… Derek I’m so close… “Meredith gasped, her stomach tight with pleasure.
She leaned her upper body backwards, one hand leaving Derek’s on the pillow and reaching behind herself. Derek’s hand immediately found her waist, urging her faster down on him. It then travelled down to the place where they both were joined, his skilled fingers quickly finding her bundle of nerves and pressed down on it.
Meredith let out a howl, his action throwing her right over the edge. Panting while riding out her delicious orgasm, she quickly found the base of his penis with nimble fingers, traveling over his balls with a feather light touch, surpassing them and reaching his perineum. With all her remaining strength, she pressed down on his perineum, hoping to give him some stimulation on his prostate.
Not expecting this, Derek gasped loudly, his upper body raising from the bed. Something snapped inside him and with a loud moan, he exploded inside Meredith, filling her with his sperm.
He felt her walls contracting wildly around his shaft as she came again, drawing out his orgasm deliciously.
Meredith rocked her hips a few more times against his as they both came down from their highs. Afterwards, she collapsed on his chest, trying to catch her breath and releasing Derek’s hand from her vice-like grip.
His arms immediately snaked around her waist and held her on top of him, his penis, although soft, still nestled safely inside her. His chest raised and deflated quickly, as he tried to get to a more even breathing rhythm.
“That… Wow. That was…” he stammered. Meredith grinned against his chest, raising her head to look him in the eyes. “Mindblowing?” And kissed him on the lips softly. He nodded, rolling over so they rested side to side, his penis slipping out of her. He immediately missed her warmth, but snuggled against her in an attempt to compensate, one leg hooked over hers after he had freed himself from his pants and boxers that had still remained on his lower legs before. He kissed her head and held her close, enjoying these quiet moments right after earth-shattering sex. “Yes. Where did you get that idea?”
Meredith shrugged. “Remember the time where you dragged me out fishing? Well, I spent my time more efficiently and informed myself about ‘secret tips about pleasuring your man’ in one of my Cosmopolitan’s. You were upset when you saw that I read something, but I bet you’re grateful now, huh?” She giggled.
He chuckled. “Yeah, I suppose so.”
They both lay in each other’s embrace for a few more minutes, before Derek untangled himself from Meredith.
“So, not that this has not been fun, but do you want to tell me now what all this mounting was about?” Derek questioned, looking at his wife.
Meredith shrugged. “Pregnancy hormones. You know how it is.” But Derek shook his head, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “No. I know pregnancy-horny you. This was different. What was it?”
“It… No forget it. It’s stupid.” A blush found its way to Meredith’s cheek, as she sat up and left the bed to collect her clothes.
“It’s stupid, but it’s obviously upsetting you. Just tell me. I won’t judge you.” Derek tried to reassure his wife, but didn’t count on succeeding, knowing of the stubbornness of his wife.
Meredith was silent, getting dressed.
Derek sighed and gave up on his task, getting up himself and redressing. After taking the bedding off of the bed, he addressed Meredith again. “I’ll have to go back to Dr. Davis now. We’re still working on our plan for that big surgery. I don’t know how long we’ll be. Just come around if you’re finished.” He kissed her on the cheek, quick, like a habit.
Meredith narrowed her green eyes at him. “Dr. Davis? Weren’t you with her for long enough already?”
Derek looked at her stunned for a moment, before a cheeky grin started to form on his face. “Ohhh now I get it. You’re jealous!” He reached out a hand as to caress her cheek, but she slapped his hand away.
“No, no I am not!” she exclaimed, glaring at him.
“Sorry to tell you, but… You are. I like it. It’s cute.” He told her. Meredith just huffed, crossing her arms.
Ditching the grin, he stepped closer to her, untangling her arms and encircling her waist with his own arms, trapping her slightly rounded belly between them. “Honestly. Mer. You don’t have to worry about anything. I swear.” He kissed her briefly.
“My heart is yours. I love you. And I love our family. I would never want anything else.”
Meredith looked up at him. “If you ever cheat on me, I will kill you.”
Derek cocked his head to the side and smiled at her. “I promise I’ll never cheat on you. Lifetime, remember?” He pulled her closer and embraced her tightly. Meredith pressed her face into his shoulder, smelling the familiar smell of her husband and taking comfort in it.
“Also, if I still wanted someone else after that phenomenal sex we just had, I’d be pretty delusional.” He added, eliciting a snort from her.
They parted and he started to run his fingers through his curls. “Does my hair look okay? I’ve always known that there should be mirrors in here.” Meredith rolled her eyes, but reached up anyway to fix his hair the best she could. “Your hair looks perfect, as it always does.”
He grinned. “Well, you had a good grip on it, so I would have bet that it was a mess right now.” To which she just shook her head, pushing the last stray lock away from his forehead, but quickly gave up. She had to admit that it was actually adding to his good looks.
Meredith bit her lip. If he didn’t have to go somewhere, she’d already be ready for round two of earth-shattering sex. But she knew that he had been thinking about this case for quite some time already and didn’t want to keep him from work any longer. Keeping him from that eye doctor on the other hand… Didn’t sound so bad. But she trusted Derek and trusted that he’d never betray her. They had already been through so much. It had to take more than a pretty girl to destroy their relationship.
After another quick kiss, Derek strode over to the door, taking one last look at her. “See you later?” to which she just nodded.
Derek unlocked the door and made his way back to skills lab. By entering, he found Arden hunched over a bunch of medical textbooks. She looked up at the sound of someone entering and smiled when she saw him.
“Everything cleared up and okay with your wife?” Arden asked with a slight worried undertone.
Derek shrugged off his lab coat, put it on a rack besides the door and joined her at the table.
“Yes, everything’s great. It’s our first pregnancy, so we tend to overworry mostly. It’s not as if we didn’t know about pregnancy and associated problems or situations, but if you experience it yourself… I don’t know.” He told her hesitantly. He didn’t know where this came from and why he was sharing it with Arden, but it actually felt good to voice it.
“It’s different when it’s you or the people you care about.” Arden said softly, her hand settling on his shoulder and looking up at him.
“Exactly.” Derek smiled and turned his body to look at her. While doing so, Arden’s face changed and she quickly retrieved her hand and grabbed her notes. She took a small step to the side as if to bring a little more distance between them.
Derek tried not to frown at her odd behaviour. Moments ago, she had been once again all over him and now she was acting like they didn’t knew each other. He shrugged it off though, secretly relieved that she finally concentrated fully on their patient and not trying to seduce him. A dirty smirk sneaked its way onto his face, when he thought about how well he had been seduced today already. He was glad that Arden didn’t look his way.
He quickly tried to free himself of any more naughty thoughts and started reading Arden’s notes as well.
They kept going over the studies Arden had found while Derek had been busy before, other surgeries with similar conditions along with the notes they had collected before in a session of brainstorming.
The hours flew by, neither of them noticing the time progressing. When it was just after 5pm, Derek glanced at the clock and raised his voice. “I don’t know about you, but I think I’m going to end this here. We’ve been here all day and although I’m pleased with how much we were able to accomplish today, tomorrow is another day which we’ll need to start with fresh eyes and a fresh mind. I also don’t think we can accomplish much more today.” He looked at Arden, who nodded her approval.
“I think so too. I didn’t even notice how fast time flew by. Thank you for the... interesting day. I’m excited for tomorrow. Maybe we’ll be able to put up a date with Mrs. Martin.”
They both collected their things and after saying their goodbye, they parted ways.
Derek made his way to his office to safely store the confidential information about his patient away and to get his stuff. He had just exited his office after changing into streetwear and picking up his things, when he was joined by Mark.
“Derek! I haven’t seen you all day. Been coped up with Grey in an on-call room?” he wore that dirty smirk on his face, the left side of his lips curling upwards.
“No, you’re wrong. I was in the skills lab all day with Dr. Arden Davis, an ophthalmologic surgeon for an upcoming surgery. It’s a bit tricky.” He answered honestly.
“Uh-huh, sure. That hickey tells otherwise.” Mark grinned and pointed to the right side of Derek’s neck. “That better be from Grey or you’ll be in major trouble when you go home later!”
Derek’s eyes widened. “Hickey?! I don’t have a hickey!” His hand quickly travelled to the spot Mark had been indicating, trying to hide any hickeys he might have.
Mark laughed heartily. “Maybe you need that eye doctor more than your patient does, because that” he pointed to his neck once again “is most definitely and with the certainty of a world class surgeon, a hickey. Through and through. Didn’t you look in a mirror after your horizontal mambo?”
Derek shook his head. “I was in a bit of a hurry and Meredith told me it was all fine. Damn it, that’s probably why Arden was so weird when I came back. She had been bugging me all day and when I came back…”
“Woah, woah, woah, hold on!” Mark interrupted him with the raise of his hands. “Arden is a woman? Is she hot? If she’s a seven or lower, it’s not worth talking about. So, is she hot?” He asked with a grin.
Derek rolled his eyes. “I thought you were happy with Lexie. After all that happened.”
“Of course. We are beyond happy. But that doesn’t mean I can’t fantasize or look at other chicks. It’s not forbidden. Lexie knows she’s the only one for me. She’s just that great.” He shrugged.
Derek raised his eyebrows. “Once a man-whore, always a man-whore, right? Anyway, I need to go, I need a word with my lovely wife. See you tomorrow.” He nodded towards Mark as goodbye and made his way to the main entrance.
“Hey! Wait! Don’t leave me like this! Is she hot?? Seven or lower? Higher? Derek!” He sighed when he didn’t get an answer from his friend since childhood. He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his white lab coat and went the opposite way.
