Chapter Text
Kris knew that when they’d gotten back from the Dark World that something wasn’t quite… right.
It wasn’t the fact that they and Ralsei and Susie had fought off some huge puppet man who… who knew . Knew they were being controlled. He had reminded them of Jevil, in a way.
But yes, something wasn’t quite right. Maybe it was the feeling they’d gotten from jumping to and from the Dark World over and over. Maybe it was the nervousness in their stomach from when they’d talked to Seam, who had acknowledged their items and the Shadow Crystals they had received after defeating the two Darkners.
Or perhaps it was just… something else.
Kris and Susie were walking back after she had asked them to do so, they were both close enough now as friends for it not to be weird. They walked past the hospital and popped in to say hi to Rudy, which had surprised Susie a bit. But it had given her a bit of time to learn about Noelle’s dad, which was a plus.
They then left and went to Kris’ house.
“So, uh, guess this is goodbye until tomorrow?” Susie asked, kicking her feet on the concrete and hands fumbling quietly in her pockets. Kris nodded, silent, then walked towards their front door.
Only for Toriel to open it and greet the two, “Oh! Kris! And Susie?”
“MS. DREEMURR?” Susie exclaimed, then whispered to Kris, “ Man, Kris, I totally forgot she was your mom .”
“Greetings, Susie! Were you two having fun? No chalk eating I hope?” Toriel teased, Susie’s eyes going wide at the accusation. Kris snorted.
“There was NO chalk eating, Ms. Dreemurr!” Susie glanced at Kris, whose expression was nonchalant, but they were definitely enjoying this, “And, uh, yeah. We were hanging out, y’know, studying and shit- I MEAN CRAP! Fuck.”
Toriel couldn’t help but laugh at Susie’s word jumbles, “Oh dear, you ought to watch your language, but I’ll allow it to slide for now,” And Toriel winked at her, then added, “And please, call me Toriel. I’m not your teacher right now, just Kris’ cool goat mother.” She then looked to Kris, who was standing there as awkwardly. Toriel was getting on Susie’s good side so quickly, it must run in the Dreemurr blood.
“We have visitors, surely you two do not mind?” Toriel asked, head tilted a bit. Kris was surprised, they didn’t have visitors often, especially didn’t have visitors who stayed inside for… whatever adults did when they were visiting other adults’ houses.
Kris shook their head, and Susie followed suit, “Nah, we don’t mind.”
“Well then, please come in! And Susie, please do make yourself at home, do not be afraid to ask for anything, okay?” Toriel assured Susie, who flushed a bit and nodded, “Yeah, uh, thanks.”
Kris walked in and Susie followed them.
Kris now knew why they felt that bad feeling once they’d left the Dark World.
“Kris, Susie, meet Kris’ uncles-of-unspecified-relation!” Toriel smiled as she introduced them.
“HEY THERE [little sponge], HELLO [Barney is a dinosaur!],” Someone, and that someone could only be Spamton judging by the voice and the odd speech patterns and just the whole look, said. Puppet looking, black hair, the freaky glasses and the short stature. Next to him was… Jevil. He smiled wide, “HEE HEE, NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN!”
Kris couldn’t take their eyes off either of them. Susie, on the other hand, was looking rapidly between Kris, Toriel, and the two dicks that sat in front of them, “JEVIL? PUPPET GUY??”
“Oh! Have you and them met before?” Toriel asked Susie. Susie looked to Kris quickly, looking for some kind of help, and Kris nodded their head slightly, just enough for Susie to see. She tried to read the expression on Kris’ face which was useless, considering Kris never really expressed all too outwardly, but she heard a voice in the back of her mind that told her to play along .
“OH! Uh, yeah!” Susie rubbed the back of her neck, “Um, saw them once at uh, a place.”
Jevil jumped in, “OH, HOO HOO, HEE HEE, I REMEMBER THAT PLACE.”
Kris was weirded out. Jevil was also playing along. They looked to Spamton, who was acting quite naturally for someone seeing two of the three people that had sent him to the other side whilst trying to save him.
“SO DO I [[clown around town]]. IT SURE WAS A [You Have Reached Your Destination!]!” Spamton played along. This was getting all too freaky for the two teens.
“Kris, dear, you were far too young to have remembered, but these are your uncles, Spamton and Jevil!” Toriel smiled happily, “It has been many years since I have seen them myself, hee hee!”
Kris had many questions, like, ‘ Why does my mom remember people she has never met? How are there Darkners in the Light World?’ and, ‘How the absolute hell are either of them alive right now? ’
It seemed like Susie had the same exact questions floating around in her head.
“Oh! I should make tea for you all, I will be back in a few moments. Please, make yourselves acquainted,” Toriel sent one more smile to everyone in the room before leaving to make tea.
There was silence for a few moments.
It only lasted a few moments.
Kris rushed up to Spamton and grabbed him by the collar, pulling him in close and staring straight through his glasses into his eyes. They were filled with so much anger and fear from seeing him again, right after something so traumatising.
“What the fuck are you two doing here.”
It wasn’t phrased like a question, it was phrased more like a ‘get the fuck out.’
“LISTEN [krispy fried chicken], ME AND [he can do anything!] DON’T KNOW HOW [we’re here for a good time, not a long time]!” Spamton held up his hands in defence. Kris looking down right feral right now gave him a lot of reason to be afraid right now.
“KRIS, KRIS, LET THE PUPPET BOY GO! WE CANNOT CHANGE WHAT WE DON’T KNOW,” Jevil defended Spamton, and luckily for Jevil? Kris liked him a bit. A bit . They liked his vibe.
Kris dropped Spamton and sighed, looking back at Susie who was staring in awe. She spoke, “Kris, I know this is like, not the time, but that was so badass just now.”
Kris deadpanned Susie, but appreciated the sentiment.
“[little sponge], go to the ((BIG RED DOORS ON YOUR LEFT)) and WE’LL TALK MORE THERE TOMORROW, [oki doki macaroni]?” Spamton instructed. This caused Kris to look back at Susie, who looked at Kris. They both had zero idea as to how they would handle this, but they had to try. Kris nodded, and Susie agreed with them, but added, “BUT! If either of you dicks try to hurt either of us I’m gonna eat BOTH OF YOUR FA-”
“Oh! Did I interrupt something?” Toriel asked as she walked in, a tray of tea in her paws. Jevil spoke up, “NOPE! WE’RE ALL GOOD.”
“Splendid! I prepared some chamomile tea, I hope none of you are averse to that? I apologise, I did not ask any of your preferences,” Toriel frowned, looking at everyone around her. Everyone made sure to voice that no, they were not averse to chamomile, and that they would drink it. Not that they had ever drank it before, apart from Kris at least. Chamomile didn’t exist in the Dark World, and Susie couldn’t have any fancy teas.
“HOLY [CUNGADERO], THIS TASTES ((grrreat!)!” Spamton drank it, hoping that he’d be able to digest such a thing. It wasn’t Darkner food and that kinda spooked him a bit. Meanwhile, Jevil didn’t mind the taste, it wasn’t prison food at least.
After they had all drank their tea and after many strange looks had been shared, Toriel yawned, “It is getting quite late, is it not? Spamton, Jevil, why don’t you two go rest in Kris’ room?”
Kris was, obviously, averse to this idea. Toriel gave them a look, “Now, Kris, don’t be so rude, these are your uncles and your guests, and we must treat them correctly, okay?”
Kris nodded, despite desperately not wanting to. The two Darkners got their stuff and began to walk up the stairs after listening to Toriel’s directions. Kris sighed, defeated, and turned to Susie. She shifted her eyes, “Uh, guess I’ll go home now.”
Susie stood, grabbing her things which wasn’t a lot, and began to walk to the door. Susie felt a hand on her shoulder, which was Toriel, who was smiling at her softly, “It is a long way home, Susie. Why don’t you sleep over with us tonight?”
Susie took a moment to think before she nodded excitedly, not even looking to Kris for confirmation, “Hell- crap. Heck yeah!”
Kris needed Susie right now, and would’ve been bummed out if she had said no. They needed someone to talk to right now or they’d go crazy, with their new situation and all.
“Good, just make sure to call your parents and to tell them you’re staying, alright?” Toriel said, and Susie nodded, less enthusiastically this time, “Yeah, sure.”
“Okay… Kris, make sure to take those extra blankets from your room once you’re both ready to rest. Goodnight to both of you,” Toriel hugged Kris, planting a little kiss on their head, “Feel free to snack, we have plenty of food to spare. Though, no chalk, apologies Susie.”
Susie flushed again. How did Toriel even figure her chalk-eating habit out?!
“Oh, Susie, I am only joking with you!” Toriel giggled, “But, please, both of you rest well. I shall see you both in the morning.”
The teens said their goodnights, and once Toriel was out of sight they glanced at each other. Everything was pouring in now and the shock of the Darkners and the sleepover, but mostly the Darkners, had set it. Susie had only one question now.
“What the fuck do we do now, Kris?”
