Chapter Text

Author Note - It has been a long time now since Crisis Core came out. I keep seeing less and less fanfiction, especially for this wonderful pairing. I recently watched a full let's play which got me on the jazz, hopefully, isn’t terrible.  This has not been beta'd so all mistakes are my own. I do not own anything it all belongs to the creators of Final Fantasy I am just borrowing the gentlemen for a bit.

“Someone’s waiting for you, no?” Angeal alleged, mentally preparing to become the monster he truly was.

There was nothing left for him in this plane of existence. He could still see the motionless crumpled body of his mother when he closed his eyes. Now he had witnessed his lifelong friend Genesis deliberately fall to his death too prideful to lose a duel to Zack. Along with the still fresh betrayal of his beloved puppy which made his heart feel as though it had turned to stone as he witnessed his love being so effortlessly replaced by another. It was time to atone for his sins and his former lover was unknowingly going to help him do so. Hollander’s words bitterly truthful only solidified why the monster’s existence should end.

Zack was in a state of shock; was the man he loved with all his heart and soul trying to force a battle with him? Someone waiting for me…? What is he talking about? He couldn’t mean Aerith, oh no, but she is just a friend. What was that madman Hollander blathering about? He is not helping the situation. ‘Oh, Angeal I can’t believe I thought for a second you could kill your mother, I’m so sorry.’

Angeal pushed Hollander away roughly. The rotund man’s mad drivel ceased as he landed hard across the room if he had any sense he would stay there or run away.

“Zack, do you remember what I said?” the youth gave a brief nod as Angeal paced back and forth, his wing swaying gently with his movements, “about our enemy being all that creates suffering.”

“Yeah, but you’re not one of them,” Zack stated, further confused by his lover’s words.

Angeal stopped pacing and looked at his beloved, “But I created my own suffering” he closed his eyes. All he could see was Zack with that girl, his mother’s lifeless body and Genesis falling into the abyss. Summoning nightmarish creatures, they moved to surround the young Soldier. Hollender made one last endeavor to accost Angeal. His portly body flew through the air once again, he ran finally understanding he was lucky to still have his pathetic life.

Angeal looked directly into the young man’s eyes, revealing the crazed look in his deep blues, “Zack, let me show you.”

Zack couldn’t stand by and let whatever plan Angeal had to happen; he ran, ‘Gaia, please let me make it.’ The ravenette launched himself onto Angeal, knocking him down. They landed with a resounding thud as the buster sword clanged heavily nearby on the ground. “Please don’t do this, Angeal,” Zack’s lips connected with the larger man’s in a desperate kiss. Angeal almost yielded to those soft enticing lips, before he could lose his resolve he pushed the younger man’s warm body upward.

“I know you’re an angel,” tears ran down Zack’s face as he felt himself being pushed away, “you helped create life.”

Angeal went still; he felt hot tears drip onto his face; looking up into his young lover’s eyes, his breath caught in his throat. ‘It couldn’t be.’ The mutation was rare, as the Soldier program recorded only two cases in over 20 years. Had their combination of DNA and differing mako treatments made it possible for them?

“Created…?” Angeal whispered.

Zack sniffled and nodded his head, try as he might the tears kept falling onto his lover. The creatures that Angeal called earlier kept at bay now acting as fearsome sentries. “That girl is just a friend,” doubt appeared on Angeal’s face. Zack shifted, putting his legs on the sides of his lover’s body. “I kinda had a big fall before I could tell you… she was there to wake me.” Angeal looked away how close had he come to risking everything by being overly dramatic. “Somehow, she knew... and told me everything would be okay, Angeal.” Zack used one hand to turn his lover’s face back toward him, tears now glistening in Angeal’s dark blue eyes. “I felt I could trust her, and she became someone I could talk to, about you, the baby, soldier, about everything…” Zack was out of breath.

The arms holding him at bay vanished allowing him to collapse upon Angeal’s chest once more. Large muscular arms encircled the teen embracing him tightly. Zack nuzzled into the warmth of his beloved ‘I missed this so much.’ The young man basked in the love and protection they offered. If he was here, everything would work out.

Angeal admonished himself how could he have been so thick-headed? To have thought his boyfriend had strayed just because he left to find Genesis. Angeal’s eyes narrowed ‘Hollander, damn if he found out about Zack it would not be good.’ The former Soldier sent his copies away; they would protect and watch from afar for now. ‘There must be a way for me to fix this and protect my new family.’
