Paper Hearts and Heart Strings

Summary:

This oneshot is a sequel to "Letters and Lockers" in this series :D

Work Text:

As the two of them proceeded down the long hallway, her hand squeezed around his.

When with other people, Agatha disregards herself for being a talkative person. Most of the time, she struggles to understand why she should react. She views it as more of a tool for getting rid of people from her rather than for creating relationships.

However, everything changed in the blink of an eye when a letter wound up stuck in her locker, when she meets that charismatic character she reads about in books, comes into her world. Kubo spun the world around her, illuminating all the sparkling bits she had never noticed before.

For her, his presence is like a haven, his warmth igniting something inexplicable. Meeting him, knowing him, and loving him is the one thing she never regrets in her life. Agatha knew it was a test for herself and a new chapter for them the moment he suggested introducing her to his closest friends.

"Are you sure we're not bothering them or anything?" she whispers to him, gulping the thickening lump in her throat.

Kubo gives her a kind grin as he glances at her. He lets go of her hand and throws his arm over her, drawing her petite form closer to his. The small gesture is enough to answer her concerns, encouraging herself to rest against him with a slight grin on her face.

They strolled together in silence for a long time. Kubo brings both of their steps to a halt in front of a wooden door labeled "Music Room."

"We're here," he says as he turns behind him and takes the doorknob, but he doesn't open the door right away.

He gives her one more look, softly asking for her last call. Agatha offers him a reassuring nod. Kubo didn't hesitate to open the door for them.

Her jaw dropped at the scene in front of them. The musical instruments are scattered all over the room. Agatha could bet that the two other students sitting on top of a teacher's desk are not meant to be at the center of the room.

"You're going to snap the guitar strings if you keep playing it like that, el loco," a guy with a strong Mexican accent warns the girl next to him.

"I was trying to play it like you, 笨蛋," the girl comments as she strums the guitar with her fingers, making an intriguing sound that made Agatha cover her ears respectfully.

"Can someone PLEASE explain what just happened here?" Kubo asks as he face palms with a groan. His annoyed tone caused Agatha to giggle.

The two students' faces immediately fell as they turn their gaze to them.

"H-hey guys!" The guy greets them with a nervous smile.
"Pretend you saw nothing." The girl quickly puts down the guitar as she hops off the table.

"Manolo's gonna kill us once he sees the Music Room like this," Kubo sneers as he crosses his arms. "I didn't expect things would turn out like this today."

Agatha can imagine his eye rolling at the two students, even though he's not facing her.

"It's okay," Agatha tells them with a small smile. Kubo faces her and returns her smile with his own, before he hooks his arm around her shoulder once again

"This is Miguel and Fei-Fei," Kubo says, gesturing to the students as he calls their name.

"Hola!" Miguel waves a hand.
"Nǐ hǎo, I guess," Fei-Fei chuckles as she salutes to Agatha.

"It's nice to meet you both," Agatha smiles to them.

"Migs, Fei squared, this is Agatha," Kubo tells them as he quickly kisses the top of her head, making her blush almost immediately.

Miguel and Fei-Fei's eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
"No way!" Fei-Fei exclaimed, as Miguel's mouth hangs open beside her.

Their reaction piqued Agatha's interest, making her raise a brow ever so slightly. Her eyes bounced from Fei-Fei, Miguel and Kubo, a confused expression forming on her face.

"Is there something I'm not getting?" She asks.

"Agatha," Miguel says as he approaches her, "you have no clue how much Kubo talks about you."

"Don't," Kubo cautions discreetly, but Fei-Fei instantly notices what Miguel is doing and gives them both a smug look.

"I swear the first thing he does when he walks into the Music Room is fangirl over you like a baby," Fei-Fei teases, making Agatha laugh hysterically. She immediately covers her mouth as soon as she sees the glare on Kubo's face.

"She smiled at me! She ACTUALLY smiled at me!" MIguel mimicks in Kubo's voice while grasping his chest in an exaggerated manner.
"I heard her giggle, it was the cutest thing I've ever heard!" Fei-Fei joins along with a snort.

Kubo plants his palms on his face with a groan as Fei-Fei and Miguel laugh their hearts out.

Agatha looks at Kubo with a soft smile, guiding his head to rest on her shoulder. She moves closer to his ear and whispers, "I didn't know you were this adorable."

She chuckles as she feels the heat radiating from his face against her shoulder.

~~~~~
They lingered in the Music Room for quite some time. Kubo scolded Miguel and Fei-Fei for causing a storm to the instruments inside the room. Agatha gently recommended that they fix the place, and fortunately, all three of them agreed. Of course, Miguel and Fei-Fei are still fooling with Kubo.
Agatha considers the three of them to be siblings, with Kubo being the oldest of the two. She's impressed that despite all of their taunting, all he did was warn them as softly as he could, without ever threatening them.
Manolo, the Senior student in charge of the Music Room, paid them a surprise visit shortly after they had cleaned it. After Manolo left, Miguel and Fei-Fei fell to their knees and thanked Agatha for rescuing their bums in time.
Kubo is particularly silent as the couple walks back to their lockers. When Agatha attempts to speak to him or asks if he's okay, he either remains silent or puts his head on top of hers. As they get closer to their lockers, he breaks away from her and began tending to his lockers.
"I am very sorry for what they said back there earlier," Kubo sighs, avoiding her gaze.
"Miguel and Fei-Fei are both very chaotic when you're around, aren't they?" Agatha says, leaning against her closed locker.
"Tell me about it," Kubo shakes his head, "they're like two toddlers and I'm the babysitter," he laughs.
"You don't mind me helping you out, do you?" Agatha asks, tilting her head to him with a sneaky look.
She approaches him and wraps her arm over his shoulder, causing him to gently close his locker.
"Miss," Kubo turns to face her, biting his lower lip as she slides her fingers across his shoulder, "I believe it's a little early to start practicing parenting."
Kubo cackles at Agatha's bright face as she forms a sneer and violently smacks his shoulder.
"Excuse me, but am I interrupting something?" A familiar male voice erupts from behind.
Kubo's first instinct is to move closer to Agatha. Her expression turned blank the moment their gazes were drawn to the man behind them.
"Wybie?" She asks without thinking.
The guy smiles at her. "You still remember me," Wybie tells her.
Her mind races through all the possible reasons why he's here. Her eyes widened as soon as she caught a glimpse of Kubo.
"What are you doing here?" Agatha asks, her face furrowed.
"Hold up," Kubo says as he walks closer, "you two know each other?" he asks, moving his finger back and forth between the two. She hasn't told Kubo about any of this, and just thinking about it makes her stomach churn uncomfortably.
"I'm Norman's friend," Wybie says, looking at Kubo. "I'm sure you know who Norman is," the brunette comments. Kubo's lips stayed shut as he moved in front of Agatha, covering her, like he had done the first time they met.
"Answer her question," Kubo demands as he gestures his head to Agatha, "what are you doing here?"
"All right, buddy," Wybie chuckles, palms facing them, "I'm not looking for a fight. I'm here because Norman asked me to fetch Aggie."
Agatha swallows the lump in her throat, knowing exactly what Wybie is seeking for. Kubo turns his head to face her from behind, a troubled expression brewing on his face. Her mouth twitches slightly, quietly wondering what to say to him.
Instead, she turns to face Wybie and speaks. "Give us a moment, and I'll be right there."
"Okay," Wybie nods, "we'll be at the cafeteria. Usual spot." Wybie then walks away without saying anything further.
The pair stood still as the brunette walked away from their lockers. Kubo takes a breath as he faces her, looking for answers to the questions that his gaze has brought up.
"There's a story I haven't heard of yet, have I?" He asks her, making her heart twist with guilt.
Kubo didn't know she had other friends that she hasn't mentioned yet. She's been meaning to tell him, but her friends raced her to the reveal. Agatha sighs and turns away from him, embarrassed that he had to watch all of that without her even informing him anything.
"I'm sorry for keeping it from you," she mumbles, clearly ashamed as she stares him in the eye. "Kubo, I-"
"Of course you should go," he says with a smile, "they're your friends," he tells her simply.
Her brows lift upward. "You're not mad?" She asks him, her face contorting into a confused expression.
"Why would I be mad about something I don't understand?" Kubo asks, quietly chuckling, "let alone, about something I don't even know?"
Agatha winces at his words and lets out a defeated sigh.
She knows his words didn't mean to hurt her, but she can sense his discomfort in his voice. God, she feels horrible.
Kubo moves his head to her line of sight. "I'm not mad," he assures her as he rests a palm on her face and lifts her gaze to meet his, "I get the feeling that you didn't mean for things to be like this too."
His face brightens as he says those words, making her heart melt comfortably.
"You could tell me everything afterwards," he nods encouragingly, "I'll listen."
Agatha pulls Kubo into a sweet kiss without thinking twice, wanting to taste the warmth in his voice. He sighs in delight as he rubs his thumb across her cheek, prompting her to place a hand behind his head, letting her fingers feel the softness of his long hair.
"I'm sorry," she whispers against his lips as she pulls away, looking at him with a small smile. "You're right, I never meant for this to become a bigger deal than it needs to be."
"Don't worry," he chuckles, shaking his head, "I'm not that kind of a boyfriend," he smirks.
Agatha will never understand how much understanding he has, and she makes a silent promise to herself to never abuse that understanding like this again.
"Now go," Kubo lovingly plants his forehead against hers, "they're waiting for you."
~~~~~

Initially, Agatha strayed away from her cousin's friend group because she felt ousted. But even despite her best efforts to keep Kubo oblivious to who they are, here she is, meeting them again.

She can already see their table from the distance. They'd always eat at the same square-shaped table with two seats on each side. As she approaches, a heavy feeling settles deep within her chest, causing for her breathing to become unsteady.

"You're late," Coraline, her blue haired friend points out as she flicks her sharp nose up in the air. Wybie, the guy next to Coraline, nods at Agatha.

"Don't bother," Eggs shrugs, "she hasn't eaten with us in a while." He stands out amongst the rest, simply because of his disheveled brunette hair and his height, which makes him somewhat taller than everyone else.

Winnie, the redhead sitting next to him, looks up and smiles at Agatha. "Welcome back," she says warmly.

"It's great to see you here again, Aggie," Neil tells her from across her seat. Because he's dating her cousin Norman, who's seated next to him, the ginger head is gentler to her than the rest.

"We brought you your lunch," Norman says as he slips her a tray of the cafeteria's standard menu.

"Thank you guys.," she says as she pulls the tray closer to her and smiles at him.

"Before we discuss, we might as well eat first before throwing pitchforks, yes?" Norman inquires to the people at the table. All couples drag their gaze towards Agatha, followed by awkward silence.

Norman's mention of "pitchforks" makes her uncomfortable, but she hides it behind a fake grin. "Sounds good to me," she responds.

As soon as the words left her mouth, everyone immediately started eating their food. When they have lunch, they usually flirt with each other's dates. Now, everyone just shared glances with one another. When Agatha notices that someone is staring at her, they instantly turn away.

Great. She comes back to their table, and the spotlight is on her.

Wanting to avoid the upcoming conversation she's about to suffer through, Agatha ate at a slower pace than she usually does, to the point where she was the only one eating. She eventually finished her tray to the point that it's practically spotless.

"Please don't tell me that you're gonna start eating the tray next," Neil quips, prompting everyone to chuckle quietly.

"I'm done, don't worry," she says.

"So," Norman cuts her sentence almost immediately, "I think you get why we called you back here."

Agatha takes a deep breath in once she realizes that everyone is staring into her being. She sets her mouth in a thin line and nods knowingly.

Norman looks at Neil, his eyes silently asking him to take over.

Neil nods his head and looks at Agatha with a blank expression on his face. Her jaw clenches as she grits her teeth, bracing herself for whatever he's going to say.

"Wybie told us that while he was walking down the hall, you were with a guy," Neil says. "We just wanted to know who that was, before jumping into conclusions."

Agatha takes a deep breath in, making sure that she's not going to regret what he's about to say.

"He's my boyfriend," she breathes out.

Her words were met with a long moment of silence. She took the time to read their faces; some are unreadable, like Norman's, but some are clearly enraged.

"Cool," Neil clasps his palms with a coy smile. "How did you two meet?" He asks calmly.

Agatha hesitates. "Remember the one sending me origami-shaped letters?"

A lot of hands slammed onto the table as she says those words.

"I knew it!!!" Eggs yells angrily as he jumps off his seat. "Why didn't you tell us sooner!? He could be a weird emo-stalker or something!"

"The audacity he had to step up to Wybie!!!" Winnie says in a loud voice. "Who in their right mind stands up against Wybie!?!?"

"You should've punched him the minute you saw his face, Wyborn," Coraline comments as she glares at Wybie. "How could you miss??? He was one feet away from you!"

Agatha can feel herself sinking lower and lower into her seat the more they spoke. Most of them never even notices her actions.

Most, except for Norman and Neil.

"Can everyone PLEASE calm down?" Norman shouts as he stands from his seat, enough for everyone to immediately shut their trap. As soon as he eyes each one of them, he huffs.

"Thank you," Neil says as Norman flumps down on his seat and crosses his arms on his chest.

This is why Agatha never bothered coming back to them when she met Kubo, and she wishes she was just eating lunch with him instead.

"I think I should get going," she mutters as she pushes herself to stand up from her seat.

"Aggie," Norman starts, stopping her from doing so. "We just want to make sure that you're not-"

"I get what you're doing," Agatha snaps at him with a chuckle.

"Winnie hooks up with Eggs, no problem. Wybie gets Coraline, not even a blink," Agatha laughs mockingly.

"I didn't even say anything against anyone when I barely knew them, but when it came to me, suddenly everyone's mad," she throws her hands up in the air in defeat.

Neil stands up from his seat and walks towards Agatha's side of the table. He sits beside the vacant seat next to her, looking at her solemnly.

"You're the youngest one here," he tells her as he places a hand on her shoulder. "We're not pinning you against the wall, we just want the best for you."

"Is ignoring me the best for me?" Agatha sneers. Everyone knew the question wasn't only for Neil. "None of you notice that I'm away, until you see me holding hands with someone in the hallway. Is that the best for me?"

"Everything didn't get better after you left, twin," Wybie comments suddenly, catching everyone's attention.

Agatha's heart clenches terribly. She never expected to hear him call her that again.

"Coraline and I fought frequently that time," Wybie drops his gaze to the ground and thrums his gloved fingers against the table, as the blue-haired girl awkwardly looks away.

"Eggs and Winnie were basically at each other's throats all the time." Agatha looks at the couple, and Winnie is fighting against Eggs's arms so she could get her hands at Wybie.

"Plus, Neil had to distance himself from Norman at some point." Norman uncomfortably shifts in his seat, as Neil rubs the back of his neck with a frown.

"I was actually kinda glad you weren't here to see all that." Wybie looks at Agatha in the eye with a worried look on his face. "When you pulled the cat out of the bag, we just wanted you safe from experiencing those things too."

"You don't trust me, then?" Agatha scowls. She didn't buy his words just yet.

"We trust you," Winnie states.
"Yeah, definitely," Eggs nods in agreement. "It's him we don't trust," the tall brunette asserts.

"Then... why can't you guys trust me that I know him?" Agatha questions. "That I know he'll never try to hurt me?"

"Because we will definitely not know him like you do," Neil tells her. She stands by her reactions earlier, but they were absolutely right.

"Let us know him for a while, and maybe we'll get to trust him too."

~~~~~
Lunch is almost done, and Agatha wants to take a moment to reflect before she goes to her classes again.
She walks across the long hallway with a blank expression on her face, her mind racing with each of her thoughts after what happened. Sure, she managed to confide with her old friends, but with that said, there is another isue she has to deal with.
Her wandering thoughts came to a halt as her gaze was drawn to a piece of origami sticking out of her locker. She never thought he'd write her another letter again.
Agatha smiles as she plucks the paper with her fingers. The origami is shaped into the form of a leaf, making her raise a brow.
She carefully unfolds the paper, careful not to rip it on accident. She spreads the paper open, reading the letter with the following words;
"Meet me by the old willow tree later, miss. <3"
Kubo's words help wash away the stinging feeling in her heart with nothing but comforting warmth after seeing her friends. As the school bell sounds across the hallway, Agatha smiles to herself.
She folds the paper twice, stuffs it into her pocket, and walks to her next class.
~~~~~

When the dismissal bell rang across the school, Agatha's heart skipped a beat. She waits for the teacher to properly end their History class, and as soon as they did, she immediately picks up her things and left the class without another word.

She's been itching to get everything off her chest, and she spent all of her time in class thinking of all the different ways she might explain what was going on to Kubo.

Despite the fact that some of her friends were with her for the majority of her classes after lunch, none of them bothered her any further, much to her surprise.

Agatha walks towards the old willow tree where Kubo said he'd be after classes, her hand in her pocket, her fingertips running across the delicate texture of the origami paper.

As she approaches the willow, she notices him seated near the tree's trunk. She makes her footsteps quieter as she walks towards him.

He appears to be making a soldier-like figure. She can see how engaged he is on his work as he folds the edges of the blue colored paper in his palms with care. The way he bends and flips the paper, being cautious not to ruin the shape he intends to make, amazes her.

The afternoon sun peers through the bustling leaves of the tree and illuminates the spot where he sat, as if the sun was shining a blazing spotlight on him. The sight alone is enough to make her grin.

She wonders if he was very focused on his origami, that he never sensed her approaching him in the first place. But as soon as she sits next him, he turns to face her and smiles.

"Hello," Agatha says softly, mirroring his grin with her own."Hey," Kubo says, putting down the origami figure he's been working on.

"So," he purses his lips, as if he's unsure of what to say. "How did things go with your friends?"

Everything she had been thinking about for hours has vanished the moment he asks the question.

"It wasn't... bad..." she stops, fiddling with her fingers. "I don't know," she sighs in defeat as her back slumps down.

He stares at her with a disheartened expression on his face, as it was clear in her face that she didn't know where to even start.

Kubo moves in closer and wraps his two arms around her, drawing her into a loving embrace. Agatha takes a huge breath out and hides her face into his chest.

They stood like that for a while, soaking in each other's comfort with blissful silence.

"They want to meet you," Agatha says ever so suddenly, prompting them both to pull away from each other.

"They do?" Kubo asks her, tilting his head. She responds with a soft nod.

"How did you even get to befriend them? You haven't told me anything about having other friends," he chuckles, "the one who confronted us doesn't look like a very friendly guy,"

"Well," she adjust herself so she could sit more comfortably, "my cousin Norman began dating this ginger head guy named Neil, and Neil had a lot of friends, so that's sorta where it all started."

With a nod, he wraps his arm around her shoulder and encourages her to keep talking.

"All of us were very close back then," she laughs, "but then the friend group kept growing since everyone started dating other people," she lays her head on his shoulder before continuing again.

"Until I was the only one left out of the scene," she bitterly laughs, "no one even noticed me at the table anymore, so I quietly left."

"It's kind of odd that they got angry when they saw us doing the lovey-dovey. The guy from earlier is aggressively passive aggressive," Kubo jokes.

"Tell me about it," Agatha says with a sigh as she rolls her eyes. "They even had this running gag with me, simply because I'm the youngest, they began calling me the 'squad baby' or whatever," she tells him as she forms quotation marks with her fingers.

"I agree with them though, you are a baby," he teases as he gives her forehead a quick kiss.

"To you," she groans as she feels her cheeks heating up, "but you're the only one who could say that!"

"Such a privilege, indeed," he nods his head, laughing as she crosses her arms on her chest.

"Hang on," Agatha can hear the seriousness in Kubo's voice, "now I see why that guy from earlier was too overprotective of you."

"Wybie," she reminds him, "he used to be my closest friend."

"Did the dating thing pull him away from you?" He asks. That prompted her to whip her head to face him with a grimace.

"Don't put it that way," she cringes, making him laugh at her. "He and I treated each other as siblings. Ew."

"He looks like Calo," he shivers. "Gave me major PTSD when he asked you to come with him."

"Oh yeah," she frowns, "I didn't realize that."

"I'm hoping that Wybie's at least nicer than him, since you two were close before," Kubo tells her.

"He is, don't worry," Agatha smiles. "We even called each other as 'twins'."

"Aww," he swoons in a high pitched voice. "I wish I get along with the others when I meet them."

She almost forgot about that, her friends wanting to meet him.

"There are six of them at the friend group." She can clearly imagine his eye growing wide. "I'm sorry I didn't get to mention that earlier," she chuckles nervously.

"It's okay," he says as he buries his face in her hair, making her grin and allowing herself to sigh as she feels his warmth.

"I'll get to know them eventually. They're my friends too."

~~~~~
"How do I look?" Kubo hurriedly fixes his bangs with his hands in an attempt to look decent, and the sight alone was enough to make Agatha laugh at him.
He promptly stops in his footsteps and continues to wipe off any dirt on him while straightening all the invisible wrinkles on his outfit.
She walks ahead and turns to him, a playful smile on her face, watching as he dusts off the miniscule specks of filth away from his shoulder's sleeves.
"Do I look okay?" He asks her. It was clear in his voice that he's unsure of how he actually looks like. "Am I terrible, horrible, terrified, or all of the above?"
"Kubo," she says softly, chuckling as her hand reaches for his cheek. She could feel the immediate warmth against her palm, and she knows her touch is enough to calm him down.
Agatha carefully tucks some of his bangs behind his ear. "You look beautiful," she tells him with a soft smile.
Her smile widened as she saw the grin on his face after she said those words.
"Thank you," Kubo says as he puts his hand on top of hers and gives her palm a light kiss.
"I just hope everything goes well, so you guys won't have to fight because of me," he sighs as he takes her hand in his and stands beside her. "Y'know, being one-eyed and all..."
"Don't say that," she shakes her head, squeezing his hand tighter. "If they disrespect who you are in any way, you can safely say that they won't be my friends anymore."
He rubs his thumb on top of her hand and gulps. "Let's just hope they don't," he breathes out, urging them both to enter into the cafeteria.
They both immediately spot out the group's signature square table from afar. Everyone is huddled around the table, with Eggs and Coraline practically leaning towards the center of the table just for whatever they're talking about.
The sight must've given a negative impression already, as Agatha can feel Kubo's hand practically shaking as he runs his thumb up and down the back of her hand.
Now she understands how he saw her when she met his friends for the first time not long ago.
When Neil notices them approaching the table, he shoos everyone away from their fast talk and everyone returns in their places as if nothing happened.
"Hey guys!" Neil greets them in a loud voice as he gestures his hand towards them.
Kubo gently pulls his hand away from hers and waves it. "Hello," he greets back in a small voice.
"Please, take a seat,-"
Neil's words are cut short when Winnie slams both of her hands on the table while standing up, causing everyone to flinch at the sudden sound.
Winnie points a finger at Kubo.
"You're that guitar guy from the Music Club!" She exclaims.
Agatha turns around to face Kubo. "You know her?" She asks, a puzzled expression on her face.
"U-uh..." Kubo clears his throat before speaking, "No? Your voice is oddly familiar though."
Winnie smiles and raises a hand for him to shake. "Winifred Portley-Rind. You might've heard of me from Performing Arts."
Kubo's jaw appears to drop to the floor, making everyone even more confused. With a surprised expression on his face, he turns to Agatha with an agape mouth.
"Baby, I didn't know you were friends with THE BEST performer in the school!" He squeals as he immediately shakes Winnie's hand.
"I'm star struck, it's an honour."
"No kidding!"
"I have... so many questions," Norman speaks out loud. "Same," everyone else at the table agrees. Agatha finds herself agreeing with them for the first time.
"Excuse me for interrupting, but can we let them both sit first?" Neil inquires.
Kubo and Agatha exchange sweet glances to each other before joining the others on the table, both with huge grins on their faces.
"Sorry," Winnie takes a seat, "but I'm SO glad Aggie's not dating a gangster, sketchy weirdo, or any of that sort."
"But babe," Eggs takes hold of her shoulder to get her attention. The tall brunette taps on the bottom of one of his eyes.
Winnie slaps his arm without hesitation, causing Eggs to scream in pain.
"Don't let his eyepatch deceive you," Winnie scolds him. "He's a really great musician. I remember him for playing that guitar solo from one of my performances."
Agatha quietly reminds herself to thank Winnie for saying that.
"Here," Norman slides them both a tray full of food. "We got you guys your lunch."
"Thank you so much," Kubo says with a slight bow of his head, before pulling his and Agatha's tray towards them both.
"Thanks," she whispers before giving him a quick peck on the cheek.
Everyone joins in and begins eating their lunches as soon as they both get their food trays. For a while, the table was silent as everyone dug into their food.
She feels weirdly giddy to be eating among her friends with someone finally beside her. It gives her a sense of security and comfort that she has never felt around her friends before.
"For the sake of everyone here," Coraline chews the last of her food and swallows it quickly so she can speak.
"Let's ignore that Winnie knows the guy, alright?" She says as she points her fork at Winnie, making everyone laugh briefly.
"Wanna do the honors, Aggie?" Neil asks as he gestures his hand to her.
Agatha faces Kubo with a smile, asking him a silent question that only he can answer. He allows himself to be lost in her eyes for a moment, and with a smile, he knowingly nods his head.
"Alright," she places her hand on top of his shoulder and faces her friends once again.
She gestures to the left with her hand to point to Wybie. "I'm guessing you've already met him," she jokes.
"Wyborn," he lends out a hand to Kubo. "My friends call me Wybie."
"Nice to meet you," Kubo grips Wybie's hand and gives him a firm handshake.
"The blue haired lady beside him is Coraline, his girlfriend," Agatha gestures to Coraline.
"Please," Coraline shakes Kubo's hand. "CJ would sound better."
"Nice to meet you too, CJ," Kubo greets her with a grin.
Agatha pulls Kubo's attention to the right. "This is Winnie with her boyfriend, Eggs."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Eggs says as he forms his hand into a fist.
"Pleasure's all mine," Kubo replies as he bumps his fist with Eggs's, making them both chuckle.
"And in front, we have my cousin Norman. The guy sitting next to him is Neil, his boyfriend," Agatha gestures to the gay couple with a smile.
"Nice meeting you both," Kubo offers a hand to them while slightly bowing his body.
"It's nice meeting you too," Norman tells him as they shake hands, with Neil following not long after.
As soon as Kubo settles back to his seat, he grabs onto Agatha's hand from below the table and grins. She carefully carries their intertwined hands together and rests them on the table.
"This is Kubo," she looks at him with a smile, "he's my boyfriend."
"It's really great to meet you all," he greets with a nod. Even though his hand is still trembling, she can feel his nerves slowly calming down as she runs her thumb against his.
"Likewise," Wybie commends with a nod.
Neil cuts Agatha off with a clear of his throat as she opens her mouth to say something.
"Aggie," he says. "Can you fetch us all a cup of water?"
"Oh," she turns her head to face Kubo, assuring him that he'll be fine if she leaves him alone with her friends.
Even though he only has one eye, she can see how nervous he feels. Despite his trembling figure, he nods to her anyway.
Agatha looks back to Neil. "Sure, I'll be back in a minute."
She gets up from her seat, kisses the top of Kubo's hair, and walks over to their cafeteria's counter.
The smiles on the boys' faces slowly dissipated the farther Agatha walked from their table.
"You break her heart, I'll break your neck," Eggs threatens as he slices his neck with a thumb.
"I'm with him," Wybie tilts his head to Eggs, while Norman and Neil silently nods their heads in agreement.
Winnie and Coraline face palms in unison as Kubo gulps down the knot inside his throat.
