Chapter 1: Blue Midnight

Chapter Text

Sweet did not want to be here.

Cap'n had dragged him out of the shop on a saturday night because Sweet needed to "loosen up" and "what better way to do that than going to a bar with hot chicks!”

Sweet now sat alone, a good stretch of two tables away from the scene. Glaring.
Cap’n had just left his side, strolled on over and began flirting with a stranger.

It wasn’t like she was pretty either, no. She just happened to be sporting a red gleaming dress, long wavy hair, red lipstick… It wasn’t anything he couldn’t do!

The mental image of himself with red lipstick and heels was enough to make him cringe as he sighed and dropped his head onto the table.

His mind zoned in on their conversation. It looked like Cap’n was doing a good job since the girl was laughing by his side at his quips.

Cap'n locked eyes with Sweet over the crowded bar and waved. Sweet turned his head the other way, embarrassed at being caught with his guard left down.

With the blaring music and the deafening chatter, it seemed like this night was going to last forever. He could even start to feel a headache coming in.

Might as well get wasted.

“Two shots of lighter fluid please.”

With the world disappearing behind a blurry veil, Sweet’s head sank slowly into his hands. This was…not the best place for a nap–so much loud music and yelling–but it wasn’t really a choice anymore, Sweet’d left his fate up to the drinks.

Wait….yelling???

“Let me go!”

“Not after pulling the moves on my girl, kid.”

Wait, was that Cap’n????

Sweet swerved his head in the direction of the noise. What he saw terrified him to his core.

Cap’n was being lifted up by the throat, thrashing and kicking to get free. He was no match for the massive man that kept him held hostage though. Cap’n must’ve known that since tears were prickling at his eyes.

“What? You’re gonna cry now?” The man taunted the smaller robot.

Sweet barely had time to react as the taller man started to put more pressure on Cap’n’s throat.

"LEAVE. HIM. ALONE!!!" Sweet screamed at the top of his lungs while charging towards the man’s knee.

Metal collided with skin as a sickening snap emanated throughout the room, followed by a harsh thud.

Things were a blur for him as Cap’n fell to the ground, coughing a metal lung out, and screeching sounded over the beating of music.

All Sweet could think of was to get out of there. He took Cap’n’s hand and ran out of the bar faster than he’d ever ran in his life.

Cap’n took a second to get back up but when he did they were out of the horror stricken place.

“Sweet, slow down.”

Sweet kept running.

“Sweet, slow down I can barely breathe.”

He continued running. All his woozy mind would concentrate on was getting somewhere safe. Somewhere far. Somewhere where they couldn’t hurt his love anymore. He’d run as far and wide as he needed to get there.

“SWEET, STOP!”

Sweet immediately stopped in his tracks, tired out of his mind. The fluid still in his gears kept the city lights spinning around him. There wasn’t much he could do as his body began rejecting the lighter fluid and he hurled.

“DUDE. GROSS.”

It took a few minutes (and a few pats from Cap’n) for everything to get out of his system. He instantly felt sobered, turned towards Cap’n, and responded, “Wow. Thanks for the thanks, asshole.”

Sweet immediately started studying the noticeable dents in his companion’s head. He sighed with a wince, fully knowing this never would’ve happened if not for his careless behavior. Why did Cap’n always have to get into fights? They could’ve just stayed out of it and stayed with him instead of ditching. But for now, Sweet was stuck with the guilt of their negligence.

“Why did you even try to fight him..??? You’re–It’s OBVIOUS you weren’t going to win.” Cap’n chided

Sweet squinted at him with frustration before childishly flicking Cap’n between the eyes.

“But I still won in the end.” Sweet corrected

“After breaking a man's knee in half, yeah!”

“What did you expect me to do?!”

“I don’t know! Not get us banned for life?!”

“HE WAS GOING TO KILL YOU, CAP!”

The rage in Sweet’s voice was enough to make tides stop in their place and stars to stop twinkling for just a second. It felt like the world had stopped for his and his grief only.

“DO YOU NOT HAVE ANY SELF PRESERVATION? ARE YOU STUPID IN THAT METALLIC HEAD OF YOURS?”

Sweet’s voice started to crackle and produce static. He collapsed onto his knees, pulled his hands to his eye and began to sob.

He must’ve still’ve been drunk since all he could mutter under his breath over and over was “I love you, I love you, I love you…”

“Hey, Sweet. Look at me.”

Sweet looked up at Cap’n and was met with a kiss.

The speaker instantly melted into the kiss, falling headfirst into feelings of love and reciprocation.

They stayed like that for what felt like hours in their own world. Embracing each other in the dead of night, actions speaking louder than words either of them could say.

Neither of them wanted to separate from each other but they were both aware of the green cd player
waiting for them at home.

Cap’n held out his hand for Sweet to take. Sweet inspected it with adoration and took it in his own.

They walked the whole way home in a comfortable silence.

Bonus:

K_K gasped in horror and quickly rushed them inside.

Once they were all comfortable on the couch, Cakes asked, "What happened!? Why does Cap'n have a dent on his head? (why do you smell like vomit?)"

"This idiot started flirting with someone's girl and ended up getting strangled." Sweet responded while elbowing Cap'n on the arm.

K_K held his hand over his mouth and quickly hugged the two. Sweet and Cap’n were startled but before they could say anything K_K pleaded,
“Please don’t go out there anymore. I don’t know what I’d do if you guys didn’t come back home.”

The two of them hugged K_K back and buried themselves into his metallic arms.

“Don’t worry, Cakes. I’m pretty sure we’re banned for life now.” Cap’n responded.

“I wonder who’s fault is that.” Sweet playfully glared.

Quickly, they went back to their lighthearted banter and for just a second, everything was alright.
