Notes:

This is my first time posting my story for others to read so I am sorry if it's a little rough. I hope you enjoy the read!

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

“Congratulations your majesty, it's a beautiful baby girl!” or at least that's what was supposed to be said but there was nothing. Not a sound in the delivery room, the midwives were for once in their life finally silent. One could hear a pin drop in the room that was supposed to be loud with celebration and cheering.

“What’s wrong? Why is no one saying anything, please tell me nothing is wrong” Her majesty panted out desperately, searching for answers among the silent crowd.

The midwife holding the small wailing child just stood and stared, too afraid to say anything.

“Your majesty it’s…” Before she could utter another world there was a loud pained moan from the queen,

“Please, it can't be. I can't do this again. I promised him that I could do it this time, I promised.”

As the queen wailed desperately the child, sensing her frustration, seemed to scream louder.

“What should we do with…it?” one of the ever most silent midwives finally spoke up.

The midwives all turned to look at her majesty, who was still sobbing quietly to herself. After taking a few moments to collect herself she turned to the midwife who was holding the newborn.

“We say nothing, we tell the king nothing.”

“But your majesty, he will eventually find out will he not?”

“He may, yes, but until that time comes no one is to say anything about this matter. Am I clear?”

A chorus of “yes ma'am” was heard throughout the room. With the topic put to rest the midwives got to work on cleaning up the new babe cleaning the child of the birth and wrapping them in the finest of skills fit for a royal. Once the child was properly cleaned, they were placed in the queen's arms.

“When the king comes in you are all to leave, understood?”

“Yes ma’am”

“If I hear a single word or phrase or even catch an idea that this news has been spread around, I will make sure whoever has said anything will pay for it. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes, your majesty” came an ever-solemn response from all in the room. Before the queen or anyone else could get another word out the door to the delivery room burst open with so much force it rattled on its hinges and banged against the wall so hard that it left a dent and startled the sleeping babe who awoke with a start only to scream out in fright.

“Well?”

One by one the midwives quietly made their way out of the room, bowing to the king as they left. The midwife who helped deliver the baby turned to the king.

“Congratulations your majesty, it's a baby girl” she said with a tight smile and closed the door, leaving the parents to bask in the joy of their daughter.

The king feel to his knees looking lovingly as his wife.

“Finally, you did it. I knew you wouldn't disappoint me.”

“I promised you didn’t I” The queen said quietly almost in a whisper the king couldn't hear.

“What should we call her your Highness?” The queen questioned.

“Adela, that shall be her name.”
