Chapter Text

Alex looked around, taking in the beauty of the flowers around him, the colours mixing together perfectly. The garden always looked great in spring, and after an hour of pleading Ali finally let him take Charlie there - but only because it was Alex's birthday and Milo agreed to come with them!

Of course, Alex wasn't complaining about having time with his brother, but just knowing the fact his adoptive father didn't trust him enough for that annoyed him.

He understood Ali was just worried about them, but he was already eight! He could handle himself just fine, and Milo was just five years older than him anyways!

Anyways, now that he was here, it was worth every second of arguing and bargaining about birthday gifts. The place was beautiful, and Charlie already started running through the field with a happy yell. The sun made his hair look like it was made of gold.

This was their little secret place, so no one was there to block the view. For a moment, Alex just relaxed and laid down on the ground, watching the sun slowly set down, and appreciating Maise's beauty. In Alex opinion, it was the best city in the world, but he was a little biased.

"It's beautiful," Milo said, sitting beside him and staring at the sunset just like Alex.

"Hey!" Charlie, as usual, couldn't relax more than a few seconds, and immediately rushed and bent down next to Alex. "I found a yellow Daylily! They're rare!"

Milo laughed, and Alex didn't have the heart to tell Charlie it was actually one of the commonest colours, so he just watched Charlie stare at him, like the five-year old had expected something from him.

"Well, that's nice-" Alex started, but was stopped by Charlie sticking the yellow Daylily in his face and looking at him with hopeful eyes while whispering "do you want it?"

Alex nodded and accepted the flower, to scared to break Charlie's heart. The child smiled and said "would you keep it for me? It can remind you how much you love me and want to buy me the Spiderman toy from the new movie."

Alex rolled his eyes. "Sure. I'll keep It so I can remember how annoying you are." Charlie grinned, "Promise?"

Alex looked at the flower. It looked almost golden, with sun shining on it.

"Promise."
