Hermione stepped down from the Knight Bus after Draco and looked around at the small town. Though Draco had not shared their destination with her, it looked familiar. She was still surprised that he had gone as far as to have Stan personally tell them their stop was next so she wouldn’t hear the name of the town. Being very curious and intelligent, Draco was very rarely able to actually surprise Hermione.
Stan placed their bags next to them and stepped back onto the bus.
“G’day to ya,” he said, with a tip of his hat. A moment later the bus was gone, hurtling off to its next destination.
“Draco, are we...” Hermione began to ask.
“Can’t you just enjoy your surprise Granger?”
She smiled sheepishly, sometimes she couldn’t help herself. Always the insufferable know-it-all who had to ask the question as soon as it came to her. She put on her backpack and went to pick up her other bag but Draco already had it in hand. She settled for wrapping her hand around his arm to walk next to him. She appreciated his chivalry when it didn’t infringe upon her own feminist independence. If he wanted to carry her bag why should she fight it? It was heavy.
They walked into the small town of Berry Hill and Hermione’s suspicions were confirmed. They were indeed on the edge of The Forest of Dean. She had stopped in this same town with her parents as a child for supplies, and again while on the horcrux hunt. Draco set their bags down on a bench outside the general store.
“I just need to pick up a few things, back in a few.”
She sat on the bench watching a fall breeze ruffle the leaves on the tree across the street. A few let go and drifted lazily down to the ground. It had been winter the last time she was here. She remembered hearing the snow crunch under her feet as she entered town under the invisibility cloak. She’d entered this very shop from the back door and taken some food, apologizing under her breath as she had no money to leave. She had returned to the tent where Harry slept, wiping her footprints as she went.
“Okay, now we're ready!” Draco said, interrupting her thoughts.
“Sorry? Oh, yes all ready,” she replied, this time picking up her own bags again as he now had groceries to carry.
“Back this way,” Draco said with a nod back the way they came. “We’ll apparate to our final destination.”
They found an alleyway behind the last row of houses that was empty and shadowed. Hermione took her place beside him and wrapped her arm around his holding on tight.
She stopped spinning and felt the tight hold release her body. Blinking a few times, her eyes finally settled on the cabin in front of her. She opened her mouth but nothing came out.
“Finally got you speechless,” he said, his usual smirk painted across his face.
She rolled her eyes and sighed.
“Draco, is this for us?”
“Of course, you said your family used to camp in The Forest of Dean.”
“Yeah camp, as in, in a tent.”
“Well Malfoy’s don’t really camp in tents, so I couldn’t really bring you up here then not know what I was doing. Besides when we went on holiday I heard people refer to cabins as camps so close enough,” he said looking at the cabin then back to her. “Come on, let's get this stuff inside.”
They carried their things into the cabin placing their bags inside the door. Draco made his way with the groceries into the small kitchen to the right while Hermione slipped off her shoes and made her way into the living room. There was a table, a couch, and a large stone fireplace meant to heat the cabin in the winter. There was a large window in the back wall but Hermione made her way to the sliding doors on the left that lead out onto a porch overlooking the river. She stepped out and found a spot along the railing, taking a deep breath as she closed her eyes. A calm settled over her and she smiled, happy to have a moment of peace.
“What a beautiful view.”
She opened her eyes to look out over the river.
“It really is,” she replied.
Draco snorted.
“I wasn’t talking about the river,”
She spun around ready with a witty remark but ended up in his arms, unaware of how close he had been standing to her. She tipped her chin up hoping to wipe the smug grin off his face. Instead his arms wrapped around her and she felt his warmth radiating through her in the chilly October air. With the same intentions, they met somewhere in the middle and she let him take the lead. His kiss was full of passion and purpose. She felt a flutter in her chest, the butterflies making her forget anything else. As his lips left hers she yearned for them to return, keeping her eyes closed to stay in that moment just a little longer.
She breathed in his scent deeply–the subtle lavender from the sprig he kept in his closet, cologne she had gotten him for his birthday that he now wore everyday, and spearmint toothpaste. What was it with boys and their spearmint toothpaste? Her eyes met his, the silver that always seemed to sparkle when they looked at her.
“Do you like your surprise?”
“It’s perfect.”
“Oh, well good! I guess that means I don’t have to do the rest then.” He began to turn away as if he would go home.
“There’s more?” Hermione asked, pulling him back to her embrace, biting her lip expectantly.
“Mhmm , you haven’t even seen the bed.”
“What are we doing out here then?”
He took her hand, leading her back into the cabin.
The rustic feel of the living room continued to the large comfy bed.
One by one she unbuttoned the flannel shirt Draco had thrown on that morning. Being the first time she had seen him in anything that resembled outdoor attire she had held back a laugh, but here he looked perfect.
When the last button let go she brought her hands up to the collar, pushing the flannel from his shoulders and letting it fall to the floor behind him. She moved on to the shirt beneath, pulling it from the bottom up and over his head adding it to the pile of clothes they were forming. She placed her hands lightly on his bare chest feeling the muscles below tense from her touch.
Draco took this as his cue to help her with her clothes. He reached for the bottom of her sweater bringing it up revealing the lacy emerald-colored bra underneath, letting his hands graze her bare arms as he lifted the sweater over her head. Goosebumps appeared and she bit her lip, excited by the sensation. His hands found her hips, tracing the top of her jeans along her skin. He easily found the button, unzipped them, and pulled them down just below her ass before pushing her back onto the bed.
She let out a small scream of surprise followed by a giggle as she landed on the soft mattress. He pulled her jeans from her legs, then took off his own before climbing onto the bed and kneeling over her. Hermione loved this view of him, the love in his eyes, blond hair hanging down around his face like a halo, and his arms on either side of her face, muscles taut.

Hermione stared at the ceiling, finally realizing how dark it was in the room. Picking up her watch she was surprised to see it was 8:00, where had the afternoon gone? Thinking back she was actually quite pleased with how they had spent the afternoon.
“I had dinner planned, but I think we should just skip to dessert.” Draco said, pulling her back toward him.
“Hmm” Hermione purred, snuggling into his side. “What’s for dessert?”
“Oh I think you’ll like it.” Draco said, untucking himself and getting up to go to the kitchen.
Hermione watching him go enjoying the view. He was gone for a few minutes and she wondered if she should have followed him. Deciding to get up, she threw off the blanket, but before she could move she heard him returning.
He came around the corner with two pieces of pie–topped with a bit of ice cream–and a can of whipped cream. She smiled as the scent of the hot apple pie filled her nose. He added a dollop of whipped cream to her bowl and they began to eat, savoring the flavor. She was indeed hungry after traveling, and other activities, and apple pie was her favorite.
“Today has been perfect.”
“Good, Happy Anniversary, Granger.”
“Happy Anniversary, Draco.”
He took the empty bowls to return them to the kitchen.
“Draco?”
He paused, turning around at the door.
“Leave the whipped cream, I don’t think we're done with that just yet.”
