Chapter 1: The Meeting

Chapter Text

"No!! Please, give me another chance, I won't do it again! I can't go down there, please! I can't!"

He begged like this until he felt a palm against his chest pushing him back. He whipped his head upon seeing the angel that stood in front of him and blocked the entrance, his eyes widening on seeing the hatred in their eyes.

He stumbled back a bit, the other bringing out a spear and pointing it at his bare chest, forcing him back farther.
"Leave, you sinner."
He shuddered on hearing them speak these words, feeling hot and stinging tears prick the corners of his vision. His wings folded inwards slightly as the other pushed him to the ledge of the stairs made up of clouds that look deceivingly soft, causing the other to fall as he lost his footing once he got too close to the ledge.

He let out a yelp on losing his footing, trying to reach for something to grab onto, and yet he could grasp nothing.

All that could be heard were the yells of the angel as he fell through the thick layer of clouds that separated this realm from the Earth. The wind currents tossed him around like a ragdoll, his yelps and gasps getting lost beneath the sound of the strong wind as the storm continued to toss him around.

He woke up what seemed like after the storm finally relented, his entire body aching. He slowly lifted himself from his place on the ground, blinking the sleep away from his eyes as he groaned at the sudden sharp pain in his wing after attempting to stretch them both out.
He glanced back at his wing, noticing the blood soaking through the feathers and how crooked it was. A shaky sigh fell from his lips as his short white hair lightly flowed through the gentle breeze.

Why did he ever think it was a good idea to fall in love with another angel? And a male, at that! He knew it was a horrible idea, and yet he gave in to his own selfish desires. It was his fault he was in this mess in the first place. But god, he missed him so much. Why couldn't he have been quieter? Why didn't he see the warning signs that they were going to get caught eventually? It was his fault. Everything was his fault.

He fully sat up after trying to shake these thoughts from his head and hugged his knees to his chest, hiding his face in his folded arms as he firmly gripped onto his elbows. He knew he shouldn't let his emotions get the best of him, but he couldn't help it. He really couldn't hold it in any longer as his body began to tremble with the force of the sobs that tumbled out of him.

He let out a startled sound when he heard something nearby, his head immediately shooting up as he quickly looked around. His golden eyes were still puffy and red, thick tears still streaming down his tear-stained face as well as he glanced around at his surroundings.

He noticed that he was in a big open area of a thickly covered forest. Barely any sunshine was able to make its way through the thick canopy above him, and yet some still managed to shine directly onto him.

He perked up when he heard another noise, whipping around to the origin of the noise and noticing a figure running out of some bushes. He felt a bit alarmed at first, but felt more confused than anything on seeing that the person had slightly torn clothes and messy hair, but the thing that really confused him was that they were crying.

The person stumbled to a stop and froze on seeing the other, their mismatched eyes widening on seeing him. He really should've hidden away instead of being out in the open like this, but now that he was discovered, he'd just have to figure out if this person was going to be a danger to him or not.

The other person stayed quiet for what seemed like forever until they finally lowered their hands from their face, their tears slowed down by now as they stared in bewilderment at him

"Are...I..what..what are you..?"
They asked, their voice a bit higher pitched than what their appearance would suggest, but nonetheless, they were definitely not gonna let this go judging by the excited but nervous look in their eyes.

He let out a sigh and wiped at his face to get rid of excess tears before he spoke, his voice quiet
"Who are you? It's kind of rude to just stare instead of talking too, y'know."

The other seemed a bit surprised at him speaking, immediately taking a step back and looking a bit more panicked now

"Ah, I'm sorry- I didn't mean to stare. You're just..very pretty, is all."
They said with an awkward smile, clearing their throat before they spoke again
"I'm..uhm...Carter! Yeah, Carter."
They said, their smile growing.

Their smile appeared to be infectious, judging by how he had to press his own lips together to keep himself from smiling too.

"Nice to meet you then."
He said, adjusting the cloth around his waist a bit before he spoke again
"Just..call me Belial. Or, er..Bel, for short."   He muttered, turning his gaze away as he thought to himself. He seemed to be lost in thought for a while until the other suddenly made a surprised sound, causing him to glance back over at them.

They appeared to be looking in horror at his bloodied (and probably broken) wing. After another moment of staring, they hurried over and went behind him, looking closely at it.

"Oh my god, your wing! Are you alright?? Did you get attacked or something? Do you feel faint at all?"
They asked worriedly, their nervousness and worry apparent on their face.

Bel, on the other hand, was just confused and a bit surprised that they would get this close to him without even knowing what he was.

He flinched when they touched a certain part of his wing, his wing automatically trying to pull itself away out of reflex.

"Ah, I'm sorry. Jeez, okay uhm..Ah, here! I have some stuff in my bag if you're okay with me helping you fix your wing up temporarily. Is..is that okay?"
They quietly asked, waiting to see his answer.

He pursed his lips together tightly and thought for a while before finally giving in and nodding, lowering his wing onto their lap after they sat behind him.

They nodded and warmly smiled at him as they slipped the bag they had off of their back and onto the ground. They rummaged through it for a while before finally pulling out a small bag that seemed packed out with quite a few things.

After a while of rummaging through this bag as well, they took out a roll of bandages, what appeared to be a bottle filled with some kind of medicine, and a bottle of water.

They glanced over to him to get approval to touch his wing and hummed in delight when Bel nodded to them.

They used the water to clean the blood up so they could see a bit better as they gently checked the base of his wing through the feathers, a small frown appearing on their face when they noticed there was a swelled-up wound on a certain part of the wing that was crooked.

They immediately got to work, using the bottle of medicine to pour some of it over the wound, much to Bel's dismay, and wrapped it up using the bandages.

They seemed fairly proud of themselves after they had finished up, a small smile on their face. They gently carded their fingers through the feathers away from the wound so as not to hurt him, glancing up at him to make sure he was okay.

He felt like his wing was on fire, and he was damn near crying again from how bad it hurt, but at least he wouldn't die from some kind of infection now. He glanced back at them and gave them a subtle smile, which in turn caused them to smile even wider.

He had to turn away quickly to hide his own growing smile, clearing his throat to hide his small chuckle.
"Uhm..thanks. For that."
He muttered quietly, to which the other responded quietly as well "You're welcome, Bel."

—————

It was a while later that Carter seemed to notice how dark it was getting, an anxious look on their face as they mumbled to Bel, fiddling with their sleeves.
"I'm, uh..I'm gonna have to go back. My parents will kill me if I don't hurry back for our nightly prayer. I'm really sorry. Wait- are you gonna be okay here? Are you sure you don't wanna come back to my house with me so you can rest up?"

Bel shook his head, a small smile appearing on his face as he reached up and gently carded his fingers through their hair, humming thoughtfully
"Nah, I'd rather not cause you any more trouble. You've..done enough for me. I really do appreciate it, Carter."

The other practically beamed at this, thinking for a few moments before they spoke, leaning forward a bit
"Is it okay if I hug you before I leave? I'll be careful of your wing, promise!"
They asked with a grin, their mismatched eyes reflecting the light from the setting sun.

Bel sighed softly and slowly nodded, holding his arms out hesitantly towards the other. They immediately jumped into his arms, closing their eyes and humming in delight at the warmth radiating off of Bel.

Bel smiled warmly on seeing carter so relaxed, gently hugging them against his chest as he rubbed soothing circles into their back.
Carter practically melted into his touch, having to force themselves to pull away after a few moments. They had a shy smile on their face as they went over to their bag and placed their things back into it, humming softly.

They stood up after a few moments and pulled the straps of the bag over their shoulders, glancing back over at Bel before they began to walk out of the forest clearing.

"I'll be back as soon as I can!! I don't know when, but I will come back, 'kay?"
They said with a smile as they looked back at him, waving to him for a moment before they hurried off through the forest.

Bel smiled warmly as he watched them run off, humming thoughtfully.

He hoped that they'd be back soon. It was lonely being left with your thoughts and nothing else, after all.
