Chapter Text
“It’s so big!” those were the first words out of your mouth as your coworker showed you the daycare for the first time.
“It used to be smaller, but after the fire it was expanded,” your coworker explained, “They also gave the attendants upgrades! Speaking of… Sun! Moon! Where are you?!”
There was dull thud of something falling, then a loud shout of “COMING!” coming from across the large daycare. The 7 foot animatronic came bounding over, looking somewhat excited as they saw your friend, but switching to apprehensive as their eyes fixed on you.
“Oh, a new worker!” he clasped his hands together.
“Heya Sunny, where’s that scrunkly companion of yours?” there was a friendly smile on your coworker’s face as they spoke.
“He’s… he’s charging,” he kept glancing at you, seemingly nervous.
“Oh, okay,” they nodded, turning to you, “I guess he can meet you later.”
You nodded eagerly. Every animatronic you’d met had been relatively friendly so far. You looked up shyly at Sun, waving as you introduced yourself.
“It’s nice to meet you,” you said excitedly.
Sun gave a simple hum of acknowledgement, face unmoving as they looked back at your coworker and asking a question. You couldn’t help but feel slightly sad at the lack of enthusiasm, but tried not to take it personally. Not everyone had to be your friend. You had to admit though, Sun and Moon were the two animatronics you were most excited about meeting. You knew not to judge a book by its cover, but celestial themes were your favorite, after all; especially JESTER celestial themes. You were smitten by the first poster you’d seen of them, but again, you weren’t going to push it. You zoned back into the conversation when your coworker put a hand on your shoulder again.
“Alright, that’s the end of the tour!” they said, “We should be getting back to parts and service. We have a lot of work to do before we open!”
“Okay!” you saluted them, turning to Sun, “Bye Sun! Nice meeting you!”
You didn’t get to wait for a reply as your coworker dragged you back to parts and service. You were so excited to see what this job brings!
—
The next day, work was hectic. Bots of all kinds came in for help; mop bots, cooking bots, even the main crew. Roxy had to come in because some genius let a child with gum into her room, and Chica ate garbage again, so the guests were starting to complain about the smell. These were apparently normal occurrences. You thought about Sun and Moon a couple times, wondering when you’d get to see them. Your coworker, who’s name you now knew was Jayden, had to snap you out of your thoughts. You apologized to the bot you were working on at the time, blushing furiously. It let out a dismissive whir, not seeming to mind in the least. You finished working on it before going on break.
You decided to take a little stroll while eating a snack, not feeling particularly hungry. You found yourself circling the glass of the daycare, looking down into a surprisingly dark room. Suddenly, two pinprick red dots appeared in the pitch black, and you recognized them as eyes. You wondered if that was Moon. The dots seemed to focus on you and in a matter of seconds they were much closer. You could see the faint silhouette of the lunar themed animatronic now, just out of the light outside the daycare. You waved, unable to stop the excited smile that made its way to your face. Moon’s head tilted curiously, and you saw him lift his hand to wave back. You smiled happily, opening your mouth to say hi but realizing quickly he wouldn't be able to hear you. You pulled out your phone, pulling up the notepad. You typed as quickly as you could, knowing your break wouldn’t last much longer.
‘Hi Moon, my name is Y/N. I work in P&S. I look forward to working with you!’
You pressed your phone against he glass and he scanned it quickly, seeming to pause to think before giving a nod.
Suddenly, your watch went off. You groaned tiredly as you quieted it, giving Moon another wave before leaving. When you got back to the parts and service center you chatted excitedly with your coworker about it.
“You really like them, don’t you?” they smiled at you.
“I mean, they’re so cool!” you blushed, “I heard they used to be the same animatronic before too! Isn’t that amazing?! Light activated! I’ve never heard of anything like that before! And that’s not the only thing, I could go on for hours!”
“Alright, alright,” they laughed, “I get it. I agree, they are pretty cool. It's a shame I don’t get to see them more often.
“Why is that?” you tilted your head curiously.
“They refuse to come in here unless they’re literally falling apart,” your coworker frowned, “That wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t the freaking daycare attendant , so they’re constantly getting damaged and dirty because, you know, kids . I’ve started having to go and give them a tune up in the daycare every week.”
The sadness must have shown on your face, because your coworker patted your shoulder.
“Don’t worry, it's been enough for now,” they sighed, “Say, why don’t you come with me next time? I could honestly use a hand. They’re pretty massive and it takes me like, two hours. None of the others will help me either.”
“Of course!” you clasped your hands excitedly.
“Did I even need to ask?” they laughed, “I plan on going after hours tomorrow, okay? We might be there a little late.”
You nodded, more excited than upset to be working a little overtime. You were going into this hoping for some new friends! You’d already become friendly with Chica. Call it wishful thinking, but you really wanted to be friends with them. You just hoped Sun was in a better mood next time you visited.
—-
Sun was not in a better mood when you visited again, at least not towards you, and Moon was, again, nowhere in sight. Sun was still not giving you the light of day (hah), which, again, you told yourself was fine. You were just a plain old P&S worker, after all. He didn’t have to be friends with you. When your coworker called out for Moon again, you saw those pinprick red eyes appear at the top of their stage, staring out from the darkness. He started to emerge, his eyes squinting as he came into the light.
‘His eyes must be sensitive to light.’ you though, and you voiced your concerns.
“Um, Jayden? Is there a way to maybe dim the lights a little?” you said, “I think Moon’s eyes might hurt a bit.”
“Hmm… that could be,” they paused thoughtfully for a moment, “They do have night vision, and he really wasn’t built to be in lit up areas.”
“The switch is over there,” Sun pointed to the switch on the other side of the daycare.
“I got it!”
You turned and jogged over to the light, turning it down a bit so it was at a more tolerable level. When you returned, Moon was standing beside Sun, eyes no longer squinted in pain.
“Will you be ok working in this light?” Moon asked, tilting his head.
“Yep, it's still plenty bright,” your coworker assured him, “I didn’t realize the lights were hurting you so much! I’m sorry Moon.”
He shook his head.
“I’m the one who didn’t say anything…”
Alright, lets get started! You’re probably wondering what Y/N is doing here, and that would be because I’ve decided to let them shadow me. As for why; I wanted the help. As much as I love spending time with you two dorks, I end up staying two hours overtime every time. No offense.”
“None taken,” Moon said, Sun nodding in agreement.
“It’ll be good to have someone other than me who knows your ins and outs anyway! Y/N and I have different days off, so if there’s an emergency and I’m not here they can help you instead!”
Sun was staring at you now, but still not saying anything. Moon was doing the same, except he did speak.
“You’re the one from a yesterday,” he smiled, seemingly shy.
“It’s nice to finally meet you!” you waved a hand awkwardly, “I’ve been looking forward to it!”
“Really…” he hummed, not looking put off, just slightly confused.
You nodded, “Sun too! If you guys are cool with it, I look forward to working with you!”
“Likewise.”
“Alright, now that we’re all acquainted, let’s get started!” Jayden clasped his hands.
You watched diligently as your friend showed you how to do general maintenance and an inspection on them. After all that came the oiling and cleaning. These were things you could definitely help with today. Messing around with the wires in their chest cavity, however, was something you weren’t comfortable with doing yet, but you made sure to pay close attention to what you were being taught. You didn’t want to hurt them by accident after all! There was a manual for assistance with these things, but you’ve always been more of a hands-on learner.
Once the general inspection was done, you and your coworker separated to clean the boys faster. You were given to Moon while Jayden did Sun.
“Thanks for letting me work on you guys,” you told him as you started wiping him down, “I’m honestly honored I get to.”
“It’s… it's nice of you to think so,” he replied softly, “Most people don’t like it.”
“What, why?!” you flinched at the volume of your own voice, toning it down, “You guys have the coolest coding in the plex, and your bodies are the most intricate!”
Moon just shrugs, twiddling his thumbs nervously.
“Well, if they can’t see how awesome you are, they don’t deserve to be near you anyway,” you huffed.
“Here here!” Jayden agreed behind you.
While you cleaned the rest of Moon, you made general small talk; asking how he was, telling him what went on today and asking how his day went. He seemed to gain some confidence as the two of you spoke, cracking a couple of jokes that honestly had you laughing a little too hard. When you were finished you you let out a satisfied sigh, putting your hands on your hips.
“All done Mr. Moon!” you gave him one more lookover before nodding with satisfaction, “Jayden, you finished?”
“Just about!” they replied, “Just one more sticker aaaand… done! You guys are free to go!”
Sun was quick to stand, stretching his arms. Moon did the same, adjusting the ribbons on his wrists.
“Thank you,” Moon said, nodding at you.
“No prob! It was fun getting to talk to you!” you grinned.
“Alright Y/N, let’s get the f—-heck out of here!”
Jayden narrowly avoided cursing. You had to hold back a laugh, and seemingly so did Moon. Sun crossed his arms sternly and gave them the stink eye. They were quick to pull you out of the daycare after that, seemingly wanting to avoid Sun’s wrath. You waved goodbye to both of them before you both and the equipment left the daycare.
“That was fun,” you grinned, “I can’t wait to do it again next week.”
“Moon seemed to like you,” Jayden nudged you, “He’s a pretty quiet guy usually… I’m glad you two get along well. He deserves people he can talk to.”
You nodded in agreement, thinking about how shy Moon was, and honestly how untalkative Sun was as well.
“Sun seems pretty shy too,” you added.
“He’s actually usually not like this,” Jayden replied thoughtfully, “He’s really hyper and talkative most of the time. He’s been acting really off lately…”
“I… I wonder if I have anything to do with it?” you frowned, “I don’t think he likes me very much.”
“I’m sure he doesn’t dislike you. He’s just nervous around parts and service workers,” they patted your back, “He’ll warm up to you eventually.”
“Thanks Jay, I appreciate it,” you sighed, “I don’t want to push him into doing something he’s uncomfortable with though. We don’t have to be friends if he doesn’t want to be…”
“But you do,” they frowned, “Like, really badly; I can tell.”
“It’s that obvious?” you blushed.
Jayden gave you the “really?” eyes and you giggled, blushing more.
“Ok so I’m not exactly subtle,” you said, pausing a moment before continuing, “Do you really think we could be friends?”
“Do you like arts and crafts?”
“Uh… yes??”
“Then you’ll get along swimmingly. Trust me.”
That made you feel just a little bit better.
