Work Text:

Classes were over at Hakuren and the students began to get ready to start their club's activities and some to simply get home for it was a rainy day and outdoor activities such as sports would have to be postponed.

In the hallway stood some of the members of Hakuren's soccer team, chatting before heading home.

"Did you bring an umbrella?" Kitami, the guy wearing a green scarf, prompted.

"I'm sure Shirou keeps one in the bag," Atsuya replied as he tried to search for it, "... it's not there."

"Do you want to share one?" Retsuto offered.

"Absolutely not!" Atsuya protested. He looked at the rain on the other side of the window and sighed, "I guess I'll stay until it stops."

The room for Hakuren's soccer club was empty. Atsuya carried a table and a chair to a comfortable spot and sat there taking out his books to focus on homework. It wasn't precisely how he wanted to spend the day but the rain had changed his plans and they would rather be done with studying ASAP if they wanted to have time for anything else on a more clear day.

The door swung open, two of the team members were standing on the other side.

"Yo! Atsuya!" Retsuto exclaimed as he walked inside the room followed by Kitami.

Atsuya's eyes narrowed at the sight of them. "What are you doing here?"

"We've come to keep you company," Retsuto said enthusiastically. “Don’t go getting sad just because you have to stay inside!” he joked.

Atsuya just stared at him. As much as he secretly enjoyed spending time with his friends, he also loved spending time alone especially when he needed to focus on homework.

"I'm sorry," Kitami began as he got closer to the table. "It was impossible to stop him."

And so it was how Hakuren's group study session began.

When the rain outside became a storm and it looked like they might stay there until night, Retsuto started to fail in all attempts to focus.

"Man, math sucks! I know we need to learn it but I want to be doing something else right now!" He complained as he leaned back on his chair.

"Whose ideas was this?" Kitami recalled him.

"Ugh! Don't say that! I thought we'd be playing games or doing anything else by now! I didn't think it'd turn into a storm!" He exclaimed.

Retsuto looked around. The room was quieter than he expected besides the sound of the rain drops on the outside. He looked at his friends, amazed by the ability of Kitami and Atsuya to focus so easily.

"Oi, Atsuya. Psst—Atsuya!" Retsuto called him.

"What?" Atsuya said in return.

"Dude, what are you so focused on? Let me see!" Retsuto said, grabbing Atsuya's sheet of paper to much of the other's annoyance. He looked carefully, "you have most of this done. No wonder you're the Perfect Grades student. Lend me your homework, pleas—"

"No." Atsuya stopped him, grabbing back his homework. "Do your own homework."

"Aw, c'mon—"

"You will never learn this way," Kitami added.

"No you too! It's because you guys are too good at math that you can say that!" Retsuto complained.

"I'm doing math and Shirou will do Japanese later," Atsuya said.

"Cheat!" Retsuto exclaimed.

"Is it cheating, though? We're both going to school anyway,” Atsuya said. “We’re just sharing tasks.”

"Man, I wish I could have someone else to do my homework for me!" Retsuto whined.

"Too bad for you. Get back to studying!" Atsuya replied.

"You always get good grades, Retsuto," Kitami said.

"Yeah but it doesn't mean I enjoy studying!"

"Focus now and you'll be done faster," Atsuya added.

"Ack! Fine!" Retsuto grabbed his book, staring intensely. One moment passed. "Hey, do you guys think the rain will stop any time soon? I bet Bucky is sad at home waiting for his walk—"

"Your dog is fine. Focus," Kitami replied monotonously without lifting his gaze from his own homework.

"What's the point? I'll have to spend all night studying at home anyway. You know my parents. I want to have fun while I'm out." Retsuto said, leaning on his chair and placing his hands behind his head.

"Go to train your hissatsus outside then," Atsuya suggested in all the seriousness he could manage.

"In the rain? I'll get drenched!" Retsuto stared at him with concern.

"A blizzard doesn't stop me. Why would rain stop you?" Atsuya stated. They both knew Atsuya had definitely gone outside during a blizzard before just to train.

"Kitami, put some sense into this guy!" Retsuto begged; he knew he couldn’t fight against that.

"He's right. If you don't want to be part of the study session—of which I remind you, it was your idea—then you can go outside," Kitami said. It wasn’t as if he thought that it was a great idea to go outside during a storm but he knew that agreeing with Atsuya was the easiest way to avoid getting dragged into their arguments.

"You lot..." Retsuto grunted to himself. He sighed, finally resigning and focusing on his homework once more.

And by the time they all were done, the rain stopped.

"Hm? It looks like it's stopped raining," Shirou commented as he stared outside the window.

"If that's so, should we get going?" Kitami asked as he checked outside himself.

"Yeah, probably," Shirou replied.

"Wait, guys!" Retsuto interjected as he shoved all of his books inside his backpack. "You don't plan to just go home now, do you? Let's go to town and have some fun before it gets dark!"

"Sure, where do you want to go?" Shirou prompted. He could use some fun hanging out with his friends after Atsuya was there most of the day.

"Alright, I want to check out this new game at the arcade and we should get some ramen while we're there too!” Retsuto suggested. “I'm starving!"

"Let's go then!” Shirou agreed. “I could use some ramen too. And I bet Atsuya would love to see the games. Staying all day inside makes him a bit restless."

"Right? Me too! I need some action! Town visit then?" Retsuto lifted his hand for a high five.

Shirou corresponded to it. "Yes!"

"Oi, Kitami. You're coming with us, aren't you?" Retsuto asked.

Kitami had to accept his fate, he knew he couldn't say no for an answer. But at least hanging out with them was never boring.

"Why not. Let's do it!" Kitami replied.

"Alright! Let's get going!" Retsuto exclaimed, pushing his friends towards the door.

And they left the soccer club room.

Notes:

Another one-shot to get back into writing. This story had been in my mind for about a year and it's finally written down.
