Chapter 1: Cracks on the wall

Chapter Text

A chill in the night and the sky is not as quiet, people can hear a slow rumbling of thunder echoing in the distance followed by the blue lightning outlining the sky as if it is trying to claw its way through. Like something is trying to get through.

CRACKS!

Blue lightning is getting closer and closer to National city every time it merges. By the edge of the town, a car drives by as the lightning crossed the sky above it and opened up, spitting out a body down to the hood of the vehicle, shocking the driver as he quickly braced himself and hit on the brake.

“What the actual …” He looked around frantically, disliking the fact that he was the only car on the lonely road. Tentatively looking back, still no headlights coming his way, he sighed, as he slowly came out of the car. He should've listened to his sister and just stay in star city and drive home in the morning. He can hear her annoyed. ‘ I told you so, Brian’.

This might be an alien dropped from the sky. He prays to the deity above to let it be a harmless alien if it is an alien. “Hey, are you hurt?” He cringed at his question, the person … it? The … Someone lies on the pavement face down, unmoving , they probably hurt in some way. “I mean, are you conscious?” Carefully moving closer, he shamefully moves his foot to gently nudge the calf of the potential alien. No response. He squatted and flipped the body into its back. “You’re just a girl.” He said slowly realizing that this is human -she appears to be one at least, still unsure- he guessed she was in her twenties, about five feet tall. She looked harmless. He checks her pulse, which is there and he sighed in relief and quickly calls for emergency service.

On the other part of the city, particularly in Kara Danvers’s apartment, blissfully unaware of the incident hosting a game night. With only Lena, Nia, Brainy, and Alex in attendance. It’s been a slow night so far.

‘BOOM’ was another crackle in the sky with one particularly loud boom raising the hair on Lena Luthor’s neck as she shivered. Kara sees it and reaches for the blanket draped on the couch and wrapped it around Lena's shoulders. “Thanks, darling.” She smiled softly and get an equally sweet smile in return.

Alex looks at the exchange without commenting, it’s not a secret that the two have slowly begun to start showing more affection toward each other since Kara came out to the world for being the Kryptonian caped hero. Three months ago . The blonde has since become more at ease, less burdened with Lena beside her through it all.

They’d make a cute couple. Alex thought while shuffling the card, they’re playing poker now after the former agent called it quit for the Pictionary game because clearly, they don’t have more players to play with and it’s getting dull with Kara and Lena winning it, as usual.

Brainy and Lena own the poker game, well, mostly Lena. Sentinel specifically said to the literal computer-walking alien not to count the cards.

“I have eighty point three fifty percent calculation that my cards are better than yours,” Brainy said matter of fact. “Thus, I will raise the stake.”

“Hey, no counting the cards,” Alex warned.

“I did not count the card, I base my calculation on the cards that I have and what’s already on the table.”

“That’s still counting Brainy.” Kara chimed in.

“It's alright darling, sometimes his calculations can miss,” Lena smirked, eyes twinkling as she take the chips and threw them into the center of the table.

“I did not miss.” He defended.

“I’m out,” Nia called it and fold her cards, she knows a bad card when she saw one. “Is it going to rain soon? Because that thunder sound has been there for the better part of the day.”

“It feels like a bad omen. The air feels odd.” Lena chimed in getting looks from Alex and Nia.

“I’m a witch, I sense these things.” She shrugged as if saying ‘duh’ but then she felt it again, that shift in the air she just talked about, something shifted inside of her, like energy pulling her in, but into where she needed to look at her mother’s grimoire later on to study this chills, she knows at least that this energy, whatever it is, it’s unsettling and dangerous.

She chose to keep it from herself until she knows more about it, maybe she ought to visit Newfoundland again.

A ding sound alerted a text coming in as Kara was just about to comment, she open her phone and read the message. “Mmhm, Cat told me to turn on the news.” She said aloud Alex reach out for the remote and turn on the TV as the news already reporting.

“......and the driver claimed that an alien dropped from the sky and hit his car just at the edge of the town, he stated that the body came out of the cracks in the sky. The suspected alien is rushed to National city hospital and seems to be in some kind of unconscious state. Doctors at National city hospital informed us about the oddity of the alien, her body seems to be glowing a soft blue light through her vein...”

The news anchor provides more descriptions of the suspected alien inside the hospital when Alex turned down the volume and was ready to say something when Lena reached out for Kara’s arm. “She’s human.”

“We need to investigate before we know for sure,” Alex argued.

Lena shakes her head in disagreement. “I can feel it. She’s supernatural, not an alien.” She is adamant. The witch’s hold on Kara’s arm tightens while she concentrates on the connection she feels.

“What is it, Lena? What can I do?” Kara asked worry in her tone, it’s been quiet, no supervillain for three months for Rao’s sake. The caped hero was enjoying her semi-domestic life with the CEO. It's kind of complicated but they’re working it out to make it uncomplicated.

“I’m okay, I’m not used to feeling this strong pull of energy towards another supernatural energy before.” The green-eyed beauty explained slowly.

“Right, in the meantime, I think I need to go to the tower and brief J’onn on the way to do some quick satellite checkups, to see if the thunder and lightning have anything to do with that girl’s arrival.” Alex finally said as she gathered her things. “I will call you when we know something.”

“I told you it was a bad omen.”

“I like it better when you’re just a genius scientist.” Alex teased.

“I like it better when I am oblivious to magic, and just a genius scientist.” A raised eyebrow from the green-eyed goddess. “I kept questioning whether the chill I felt is just a chill or something else,” she explain further.

Alex feels like that is a thing to be unload later so she replied simply. “Touche.” A paused as she contemplated something, but then thought better of it and said goodbye. “Alright, I’m going.”

“Divide and conquer, I suggest Nia, you’re going with Alex,” Brainy said to them, halting Alex’s move. “Then we,” He motions to Lena and Kara as well as himself. “Best go to the hospital. We need to arrange a transfer of custody of the supernatural human into our care.”

The young reporter and the redhead eyed each other before agreeing with a “Yea cool.” And a “Sounds good to me.” Before they left.

“I guess, team Supergirl, to the hospital,” Kara exclaimed. “Do we fly out or call an Uber?”

“Do you think they’re dating already?” Nia asked the older Danvers' sister as they ride the elevator to the tower.

“Who?” She asked back with curious yet amused expressions meeting Nia’s ‘ you know who’ expression. A paused, she contemplated her answer, based on her observation and her temporary conclusion earlier in Kara’s apartment, they looked like they’d been dating.

“I noticed some slight changes in their body language, not too far off from the way they have behaved around each other.” She paused. “But Kara has been more attentive to Lena’s needs and Lena’s been… she doesn’t want to be too far from where Kara is, in proximity, always wanting to be close.”

“RIGHT?” The young naltorian squeaked in agreement, maybe a little bit giddy. About the prospect of her mentor and her respected friend dating each other. “I noticed that too.”

“Nia, dating or not, they will share it when they’re ready.”

“...right.” She said softly this time with a smile showing her happiness for her friends and colleagues. “In my opinion, it’s about time.” She finished just seconds before the elevator door opened with Kelly and J’onn already in the room.

“Babe,” Alex called out.

“Esme is asleep in one of the rooms here, she’s safe.” The therapist said to her wife and met with a slight nod of approval and a hug, she kissed her in greeting before letting her go.

“I’ve checked the satellite footage after you called, there has been a disturbance in the atmosphere, apparently it’s not just in National City, it’s been happening globally, the stormy cloud and lightning seem to be moving around the map, and moving towards National City.” J’onn shared, showing them the screen of the weather map and live feed of the phenomenon. The screen showed them how the weather looks like they are moving, converging on National City.

“Does anyone besides us notice this?” Alex asked. “And I see some places have higher heat signature, does that means something significant happened there too, like what happened here in the news?”

“I found a blipped of spiking energy but it was brief before it disappears completely.” A few types on the keyboard then J’onn showed Alex and the others. “In, Waverly Place, New York.”

“Her vital is stable, there are no apparent injuries nor is there any organ damage, medically speaking, aside from the low blood sugar, she’s okay.” Doctor Richard explained to Lena, Kara, and Brainy.

It will always amaze them how Lena’s influence was able to get around the red tape of bureaucracy and went straight to see the mysterious person fall out of the cracks in the sky. It also helped with Kara Danvers a.k.a ‘the girl of steel’ Supergirl coming in with Lena Luthor. -side note: they ended up using Lena’s transmatter portal-

“She’s human, yet according to the news, she also has a glowing vein?” Kara asked.

“She was showing something earlier that looked like a blueish glow in her vein. We were concerned, that’s why we have her here in isolation and away from our patients. But it appears to be only temporary, all tests we run came back clean.”

The level twelve intellect alien stepped closer to studying her. “It appears, she’s in deep slumber, based on her brain chart activity here, she appears to be in a stasis state,” Brainy concluded. “I recommend moving her to the tower which has better equipment to help her.”

“We have the top-of-the-line medical and surgical equipment with the best doctors.” The doctor defended.

“There’s nothing to be offended about, our equipment is better because it is from intergalactic alien technology and essentially last stated. Better.”

“Okay.” Kara interferes before things heat up between the human doctor and the coluan. “Doctor, medically speaking, she has no injury that needs immediate attention.” The girl of steel explained. “She needs to come with us for further examinations, our team is the best this girl has to figure things out and help her.” Kara smiled. “No offense, doctor.”

“Yes because, again, earth’s science seems to be millennials away from our science and technology.”

“Brainy.” Kara sighed. “Don’t antagonize the nice doctor.”

“Dr. Richards, the way I see it, she needs help, and we are equipped to give her that.” Lena stepped in. “After all, we have Supergirl on our team.” The raven-haired woman smiles politely with her CEO posture, back straighten, shoulder broad and confident in her eyes and Kara is just swooning.

The doctor contemplated for a sec before he nodded in understanding. “Come with me.” He said leading them out for the paperwork needed to release the girl to their custody.

As Kara and Brainy take care of things with doctor Richard, Lena sits beside the hospital bed, watching over the girl. “Who are you?” she asked quietly reaching out to hold her hand.

She felt a kinship with this person, an oddity when she has a hard time connecting to people, even her connection with Kara has been a long road building to what they have now.
