The Talk

Summary:

Courtney has a genuine talk with Temeluchus. The two bond.

Notes:

Okay, so this one I cannot take full credit on. I was scrolling through ao3 and I found this writer listing out fic ideas, and this is one of the ideas I decided to use! Basically, Courtney’s feeling down, and Temeluchus tries to be a comforting dad character lol

Work Text:

Barney was safe asleep in his coffin-bed. He’s surprisingly taking sleeping in such conditions pretty well. Especially with Pugsley gone and everything. Oh, right. Pugsley.

Courtney was always closer to Pugsley than most people in Dead End. They had a sibling relationship of sorts, and Pugsley was basically Courtney’s biggest fan. Gosh, she missed him. Courtney was never one to let feelings get the best of them, but there she was, crying her eyes out. She refused to let their roommate, Barney know. But Pugsley was very special to her.

And there he was. Temeluchus. He’s sort of a… last resort at this point. Temeluchus has changed drastically over the month. He’s been acting… flowery? He’s super nice to everyone nowadays, which has been weirding his sister out.

“So, my liege..!” Courtney whispered. “How’ve you been?”

“Well.” The poster responded. There was that raspy voice. “Uhh…”

“So.. you’re probably wondering why I’m even talking to you in the first place…” Courtney trailed off, “Things have occurred.”

“No kidding.” Temeluchus replied. “How’ve you been handling Pugsley? Is he well? And the humans?”

Ouch. It’s not going to be easy telling him this. “Yeah, about that, sire. He’s…”

“Dead.”

“Courtney, death isn’t something to joke about.” He said in a fatherly tone. Oh dear.

“I-it’s not a joke, sire. He’s dead. Like, really really dead. He died trying to save…-“

“Those damn angels.” Temeluchus muttered. Courtney could hear Temeluchus’ voice crack.

“It’s weird, sire. I miss him… so much.” They shook her head, hoping that Temeluchus would understand.

The poster turned a bright red hue.

“Sire are you-“

“Courtney,” Temeluchus paused, “Why, I should say the only thing I can but— how are you handling this?”
The demon’s gaze softened at Temeluchus. “Well… Pugsley did everything in his power to make me happy. Even when I didn’t deserve it. So… I miss him, sire. Really, really miss him.”

“So I see.”

A moment of silence took place, as Courtney only stared at the poster longingly.

“I do too, Courtney.” He finally responded. “But you know what?”

“We’re going to be okay.” Courtney figured he had placed a smile when he said this. “Th-thanks, Sire. Of course, you of all people would understand.” Courtney twiddled with their fingers. Courtney was about to head to bed, but she paused. “Withered away so hurriedly, Little Red?” “Yeah, I’m out!” Courtney chuckled, “But in fact I DO have another problem. You see, there’s this demon I know— this girl demon.” “Oh, I see where this is going.” Temeluchus chuckled softly. “You like her?” “Yeah! I figured you’d understand! I wanted to tell the humans that I… I uhh like-“ “Courtney. Little Red. Baby. They’ll be more than supportive of you, if anything!” “Well, st-still it’s not that easy!” “I know,” It almost felt as if Temeluchus was head-patting them. “But if you can tell me, the humans won’t mind much at all.” Courtney had had it at that point. They rubbed her eyes, feeling quite weird. But still, they kissed a corner of the poster as gratitude, smiling weakly. “You really think so?” “I know so.”
