Jimin

This was not how I expected to give birth to my first pup. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
But then again I wasn't supposed to get pregnant by my unreliable toxic ex boyfriend, so I guess I was specializing in the unexpected.

---
It had become alarmingly clear several hours in to my trek in this god forsaken forest that I was in early labor. The sharp pains were still a few minutes apart so I guessed by early morning my pup would be trying to make a show. That was why I had picked up my pace, not even stopping to rest for the night like I had planned. But now it was so dark I could barely see. I continued to trip and walk in to things, getting scratched here and there.

I was hoping to reach any of the neighboring villages by sunrise and find a healer to help me deliver, but the journey was proving further than I expected. I stopped in the middle of another contraction leaning on a tree and trying to slow my breathing as I had practiced with my mom. Thinking about my mom made me want to cry. I had left in the middle of the night without even saying anything, just leaving a note behind. I knew she had to be heartbroken, but I had no choice.

Once the contraction eased up a bit I dug in my bag and pulled out the hand drawn map I was relying on.

"How much longer," I cried to no one. There were 2 villages on the other side of the thick woods, or so I had heard the hunters say. I had never ventured further than the market where neighboring packs stopped to trade during long travels. That was a 6 hour walk from my home. 1 pack was rumored to be more traditional, their pack leader still chosen by a fight to the death and sub gender roles (alpha, beta, omega) were strictly enforced. That's the pack I was avoiding considering I was an unmated pregnant omega. The second pack was the pack my grandmother had come from. She had met and fallen in love with an alpha she met in the market where she worked selling goods with her parents, and eventually returned home with him. I remembered her stories of her old pack and how much she had loved her village. They were by the lake and she grew up swimming and fishing. My plan was to find my grandmothers old village and start a life there on my own, with my pup, by the sea. That was all I wanted.

Reminding myself of my goal and purpose I huffed and straightened up, putting my things back in my bag. I started to walk again.

I walked for another 2 hours and I started to feel hopeful when came across a small stream. Based on the map it was less than half a day to get to my grandmothers village from this stream. I just had to cross it first.

I found a long stick first, prodding to make sure the water was shallow. I then used it as a walking stick to try and steady my footing. But the rocks were slippery and I lost my footing. I somehow rolled my ankle and I screamed out in pain. As if the pains of early labor weren't enough. I stepped down warily still wading through the water and an immense shooting pain ran up my foot as I stepped down. I waddled across the rest of the stream like this, crying every time I had to step down. As soon as I made it across I collapsed on the grass, crying silently as I huddled up on my side. I knew I couldn't walk anymore, my ankle was already starting to swell. I hadn't even eaten yet but I had no energy to get up and forage or hunt for anything. So I just laid there, in the dark quiet. The exhaustion started to creep on me and I felt my eyes start to close. I decided to just give in, I was tired of fighting.

The sun was barely up when I woke up screaming. The pain in my stomach was excruciating and non stop now. There was immense pressure in my pelvis and all I could do was roll around trying to make it stop. I ended up on all fours trying to hold myself up groaning and crying. I knew without a doubt the baby was coming now.

---

"Please!" I cried, again to no one. I wasn't even sure what I was asking for. I was just in so much pain and I was also terrified. I knew I was too far from the village to make it now. I was completely helpless. I started fearing for my pup, and that made me cry even more. All I could do was hold on to the tree. The pain was slowly making me disoriented. I didn't even remember ripping my clothes off, but suddenly my hands were clutching my naked belly. My body or my inner omega must have known what to do because I started bearing down and trying to push without realizing. I knew things weren't going well when I had been pushing for a while with no progress. I was running out of energy so I closed my eyes for just a bit, to gather my strength. But instead I ended up fainting.

The insistent knocking on my door woke me up. I pulled my blankets up over my head trying to ignore it. I was just about to fall back asleep when the blankets were yanked away, cold air hitting me. I jumped, sitting up quickly.

"Son, get up," my father scolded. I brushed my hair out of my eyes, looking over to the small window. The sun wasn't even up yet. "Do you plan on sleeping all day?"

"It's not even light out," I complained.

"Jungkook you're an alpha. How are you ever going to provide for your family if you can't even wake up and hunt!"

"I don't have a family," I rolled my eyes. It was too early for his lectures.

"So the rest of the pack should take care of you for the rest of your life? The hunters and fishers are already out setting up for the day and you're here sleeping. Do you know how embarrassing that is for me as the leader of this pack?!"

"I'm sorry for embarrassing you," I said half heartedly.

"Get up, and get going" he said looking at me in disappointment. "I'm expecting you to bring home a catch today."

"Yes father," I said not having energy to fight today. I slowly started to get up and he left my room so I could get ready.

I was out of the cabin and in the forest 30 minutes later. I spent the first hour dragging my feet and snacking on berries. I preferred to hunt alone anyways so I didn't mind that I wasn't with the rest of the hunters from the pack. I did some stretching and exercises as well, I was going through yet another growth spurt and I had excess energy lately. That's why I wasn't worried about catching something to bring home. I actually was good hunting, I just hated doing what my father told me to do, I guess something about being at the end of my teenage years. We were both stubborn so we clashed heads from time to time.

I had been running around for probably several hours now and the sun was finally starting to come up. I knew I needed to catch something and head back to the village. Thankfully I knew this forest like the back of my hand, and I could always rely on deer grazing by the stream. It was a bit far out for most of the older hunters or when traveling in big groups but I loved long runs.

A weird smell caught my attention as I got closer to the stream. It smelled sweet but also sour, kind of like rotting or fermenting fruit. It wasn't familiar and i couldn't attribute it to any of the trees I knew in these woods, but I brushed it off. I closed my eyes trying to focus on listening for animals near by. I could hear birds chirping, leaves rustling here and there. As I focused more I could hear grunting of some animal not too far. I opened my eyes looking around. There was a loud high pitched screech and I stopped my foot steps. I picked up the mild scent of blood in the air. I realized there must be a wounded animal near by. It happened from time to time. Whenever I came across one I always tried to quickly put it out of its misery rather than letting it continue to suffer. I decided to follow the sounds. I could her the stream rushing now and the smell of overripe fruit intensified, so did the blood. I picked up my pace curiously wondering what kind of animal smelled like that.

When I approached the clearing right by the water I stopped in my tracks at a heart wrenching scream that I knew didn't belong to an animal. I took off running naturally towards the waters edge. I looked around frantically. I spotted pieces of clothing and a bag scattered under a tree. Someone was here. I heard the weird grunting then and I ran around to the other side of the enormous tree. I froze at what I saw.

There was a small naked figure crouched, hunched on all fours clinging to the base of the tree. A smooth white back and brown wavy hair was all I could really see.

"Are you hurt?" I asked, kneeling down instinctively. The person threw their head back, grunting like I'd never seen before. That's when i caught a glimpse at their face. It was a man. He had a full face that was totally red right now and his forehead was covered with beads of sweat. His eyes which had been closed flew open. They were a striking shade of blue, unexpected with his dark hair. A hand reached out grasping mine like a vice.

"Help me," he breathed, voice so weak it was barely audible. Then a scream. That's when I looked him over trying to see where he was injured and I spotted the big bump sticking out from his middle. A pregnant omega, i gathered. My eyes got wide, completely flustered. He was also completely naked right now.

"Are you alone omega?" I asked confused and frantic at him crying and whimpering.

"somethings wrong," he said clawing at my arm. The level of desperation in his voice was palpable. I looked down at him panicked.

"Okay, my village isn't too far from here, I'll carry you-" I started.

"No,no, no. Now! It's happening nowwww" he groaned again digging his fingers into my arm so hard it actually hurt. He let go of my arm clambering around until he had both hands on the tree again. He clawed at the bark. My brows came together and I shook my head quickly not understanding.

"What's happening?" I asked confused.

"My pup, h-help me. Please," he cried, leaning his forehead against the tree. I understood then that he wasn’t injured, he was giving birth. Right here, right now.

"Oh fuck," I shook my head again but more panicked this time. I had never even seen a pup being delivered before. I barely even spent time around any pregnant wolves. I just saw kids eventually running around the village never paying attention to how they came about. I knew overall anatomy and how things worked from school, but I hadn't even been with another wolf before so the actual mechanics were still beyond me.

"He was right. I can’t ...do this," the omega said, turning his head against the tree so he was facing me. He looked like he was barely conscious, his eyes were closed. "Now I’m going to die here."
That snapped me out of my thoughts.

"No," I said, even though I didn't know if it was true. "I-I'll help, if you tell me what to do," I said. I don't know where that came from, I was not knowledgeable enough or confident enough to deliver a living breathing pup. He didn't respond, for a minute it looked like he was sleeping. I finally looked down taking in all the blood that he had lost for however long he had been here. It explained his ghostly complexion. This couldn’t be normal. Suddenly I started to fear if he had died in front of my eyes seeing how still he was, and I shook him by the shoulder. I decided I preferred when he was screaming and yelling. His eyes slowly opened, lazily. I had seen injuries while hunting and training so I knew enough to know when someone had lost too much blood and was on the verge of losing consciousness. I had even seen people die and it wasn't something I wanted to witness again. So I did what I could think of and pulled him as gently as possible from the tree so that his back was against me, holding him up.

"Hey," I said shaking him slightly. "Come on, you're pup is ready to meet you," I tried, the only thing I could come up with. Words of comfort were not my specialty, and this was such a unique situation. Suddenly I wished my mom was here, she would have handled this like a professional. She was good at sympathizing and soothing people.

"Tired," he mumbled going slack in my arms. This was not good at all.

"Okay, I'm going to get you some water okay?" I said. He nodded lazily. I had to gently put him laying on his back on the grass while I went to the stream to cup some water in my hands.

I put the water in his mouth drops at a time propping him up from behind. He drank it like he hadn't had water in days.

"Come on, don't you want to meet your little pup?" I asked, trying my best at being encouraging. He nodded. "Okay then, let's do this,"

"M'kay," he groaned, slowly shifting so he was sitting leaned back against my chest and grasping my legs. This would have been awkward in any other situation but my mind didn't even register I was practically cuddling a naked omega. He started letting out little grunts as he started to push. It seemed he knew what to do so I just focused on supporting his body. He pushed again, squeezing my leg so hard I winced. He screamed as he pushed a third time and I couldn't even wrap my head around what happened next. He was suddenly reaching down and there was gunk and then suddenly he was pulling out a tiny bundle of limbs. That's what it looked like anyways. I couldn't believe my eyes. I watched in awe as he pulled the tiny thing to his chest and started rubbing its back, instinct taking over. I noticed a shift in the scent in the air. It smelled like milk and honey.

"She's here," the omega said incredulous. He seemed just about as shocked as I was.

"You did it," I said, smile slowly taking over my face at the sight of the omega scenting his pup. He laughed as if in disbelief looking up at me. The pup began to cry then and my mind kicked into gear again. I removed the plaid shirt I had on over my t-shirt and draped it over the pup, the omega securing it around her.

"Beautiful," he murmured, closing his eyes, and leaning his head on to the young wolf. He stayed like that for a while and I just watched amazed really. I realized that the omega was starting to doze off though and I couldn't even imagine how tired he must have been. But we were still in the middle of the forest.

"Let me take you back to my village so we can get some help," I said, touching his shoulder. He sighed nodding, eyes not opening. "Wake up omega," I said gently, looking to the bundle against his chest which had now quieted. He opened his eyes blinking.

"Tired," he said.

"I know, but we need to get you to a healer" I said.

“My ankle, I can’t walk,” he said. I looked down and noticed his ankle which was very swollen and purple. Likely a sprain.

"I’ll carry you. You just have to secure the pup. Come on, It’s too cold to have a pup out here," I said trying to get him to understand that we couldn't stay here and he had to help me get us out of here. That seemed to get his attention and he groaned moving slowly to sit up. I stood up first, stretching out my legs that now felt numb. I reached down to help the omega rise to his feet carefully as he winced and cried out in pain. It took some time but I eventually got him on this feet.

"Can you hold her so I can put my clothes on?" He asked, looking up at me. I hesitated but nodded, sticking my hands out awkwardly. He handed the pup to me like the most delicate parcel ever, which she was. I looked down at the pup as the omega got dressed. I had never held one this young before, it was frightening. She was sleeping, full cheeks and plump lips the only thing really visible from the shirt swaddle. She barely took up space in my arms and weighed almost nothing. If it wasn't for the softest of breathing one would think it was a doll.

"I can take her now," the omega said, drawing my attention. I looked up to see the now clothed omega reaching out. He was holding a blanket which he must have had with him, he expertly secured the pup to his chest in a sort of sling fashion and I just watched amazed.

"I've seen other omegas do this," he said, looking up at me briefly. I think it was the first time I was really seeing his face, registering his fox like eyes, and full lips. "I'm not sure I've done it right..." he trailed off shaking his head. He looked nervous, or anxious maybe, and overall exhausted.

"Looks good to me," I said simply, trying to offer some reassurance. He nodded, a hand going to the pup. “im going to carry you now,” I said, announcing first before touching him. He hesitated but eventually nodded. So I moved forward, carefully lifting him in my arms trying not to jostle him or the important parcel too much.

I started to run back towards home with the omega and his pup in hand. This was not at all how I saw this day going.
