Itachi quietly sits in one corner of the table, just observing the proceedings.
Today was an omiai for his little brother, Sasuke. And everything is going well.
Sasuke's omiai partner, Sakura, a hero with a healing quirk looks quite lovely and is getting along well with his brother. His father is looking at the pair approvingly and his mother obviously already adores her.
His brother though, he looks very much in love. And that made Itachi quietly laugh.
Arranged marriages based on quirks was getting out of fashion, but it was something their clan seems to plan to hold onto. And it wasn't because they were just power hungry or elitist. It was mostly to protect the family, as well as preserve their quirks.
The Uchiha clan was known for its flame quirks, so the elders usually prefer the members to marry someone with a quirk that won't be harmful to their own quirk or with their quirk being harmful to the other. Anything elemental is welcomed. There's already wind, earth, water or ice quirks married to the family. Those are the types that will complement or be equal with flame.
They do not prefer anything with animal-type quirks, though. Flames are always a danger to them. They definitely won't allow a marriage with any bird quirks or quirks involving feathers, as well as quirks relating to water-type animals.
They allow quirks of creation and illusion, but not quirks allow control of minds or other quirks. Their flame quirk is very volatile, after all, and each member of the clan with the quirk is trained from a very young age to be able to handle it.
The elders don't like quirks that are potentially flammable, for obvious reasons. And they also don't prefer someone who is quirkless either, for fear that the clan's own quirk will disappear in the next generations.
It might sound as if they require a lot of things, but with the thousand kind of quirks available now, that really wasn't the case. The clan members really just need to avoid the very extreme don'ts and usually the elders will just accept.
Itachi himself married someone whose quirk is telekinesis. It was very close to the feared mind control the elders are wary about but they grudgingly agreed to the marriage because Izumi is one of the top heroes. And rejecting her would imply they didn't trust one of the heroes with the most approval of the public.
But he expected that they would be very particular with his little brother's partner because he has two quirks.
The flame quirk he got from the family, and also a lightning quirk that he seems to have manifested on his own as their father was of the flame quirk, while their mother is able to have control of metal.
And other than the elders wanting to select someone whose quirk would be compatible with that, they were also looking for Sasuke to be the next clan head, so they wanted someone who can assist him with that.
He had heard that they had been looking for candidates specifically with ice quirks, so that it can balance Sasuke's powerful fire power as well as insulate from lightning. It was a logical thought. But his mother had recommended an even better candidate.
Sakura is definitely the perfect fit for his brother.
Like him, she also has two quirks. The first of which is superhuman strength, which is a quirk that won't be affected by and won't be a deterrent to either their flame or Sasuke's lightning. And the second was healing, including self regeneration, which was just what Sasuke needs. His two quirks can be a lot for his body to handle, especially when used simultaneously. It has been his mother's constant worry since Sasuke was a child. So what more can they, as a family, ask for someone to be Sasuke's wife? Not only is she completely safe from his quirks, she also can take care of him and help him handle them.
What more, if they should have kids with flame quirk as well as a self-regenerating quirk, they would have no need of down time so their body won't burn. They would be unstoppable.
It also doesn't hurt that Sakura is fast becoming one very popular hero especially after her miraculous feat when the Konoha Hospital was attacked by villains a few weeks ago, and she was able to protect everyone and capture the villains all by herself. There were no casualty, only a few buildings that needed to be reconstructed.
And since both his brother and Sakura are good-looking, Itachi is sure he'd have adorable nieces and nephews.
Not to mention, it was obvious that Sasuke is enamored.
Itachi lets out another chuckle and his father, noticing, turned to him and smiled.
"I know." Fugaku tells him quietly. "I was worried for nothing. I never thought your brother would accept to go to an omiai, let alone immediately like his omiai partner like this. This seems to be a success."
Itachi nods at his father.
But truthfully his father doesn't really know.
How Sakura was recommended to the elders by their worrywart mom, who had heard about her from her friend, Uzumaki Kushina. Sasuke's best friend, Naruto's, mother.
And of course, why else would Kushina-san recommend Sakura? Because Naruto told her to, because Sasuke asked Naruto to.
Because Sasuke and Sakura have been secretly dating for about three years now.
"Yes." Itachi said to his father. "I expect we'll be celebrating a wedding soon."
"I hope so, son." Fugaku said, and then turned to the couple once more.
Itachi chose not to say anything anymore. His parents didn't need to know that Sasuke had proposed to Sakura just a few days ago and it was the reason they arranged all of this.
Itachi could just shake his head in amusement.
Oh the games these two play. The elders and their parents seem to have been playcards that they're slowly pulling from the deck and piling in sequence, according to what suit they want to build.
