Chapter Text
It was a normal morning around the island of Club Penguin. The sun is shining with a nice ray of light that brings some warmth, the birds that chirp sounded like delightful, peaceful melodies, followed by penguins doing their own communities. Such as making pizza, doing construction, making and selling coffee to other penguins, and even making plays for theater.
But this day is gonna be a special one.
During the first week of September, his Aunt was having a conversation with him about attending school, and told him all the special kinds it actually has. She even did some research on it, and this made Rookie interested and excited. So Rookie had been preparing for the things that he needed for High School, such as notebooks, folders, rulers, pencils, erasers, you name it that is school based.
Rookie was sleeping peacefully in his own bed. He was holding one of his extra pillows that he had on his bed to hold and cuddle with.
Rookie almost had a hard night sleeping, because he was tossing and turning a lot and couldn't get proper rest. But he decided to drink warm milk, and it actually worked very well for him.
He was still asleep, until his alarm clock started ringing, which woke him up. Rookie's eye started to flutter open, until his eyes shot wide open. He quickly got out of bed and tried to check the time on his clock that's on his nightstand.
"What the heck? It's 7:00 in the morning?! I'm gonna be late for school!!!" He said, while panicking.
He goes to the kitchen to put some bread on the toaster, without waking his Aunt up. As he did that he starts to take his tooth brush and turns on the shower, and does a combination of both showering and brushing his teeth. He learned that trick from when he was little, whenever he was in a rush.
After he was done showering and brushing his teeth, he immediately put on his white shirt, put on his tie (which he had to look up on a tutorial video on his phone), puts on his blue open jacket with the signature initials CP (Club Penguin) and pocket, his own signature propeller hat and red sunglasses, and most importantly, his bag.
He leaves a note for his Aunt on the kitchen table saying that he left for school and for her not to worry and that he still remembers the hidden key that is underneath the doormat. He takes his toast and puts it on his beak, then puts on his shoes.
"See you later!" he said, and ran off like the wind.
On his way to school, he finished eating his toast, and got to the arrival of his destination.
He stopped to catch his breath. He was very tired from running that fast, he even felt like he was going to faint. But he managed to recover just in time to see the sight of the school.
The school was big, and it has 4 stories, and a chain fence that's on the roof. But what caught Rookie's attention was that there's a clock that says 6:40 at the main door.
"What? Did I read the clock wrong?" He said confused. He checks his phone to see that the time was exactly the same, just like the one on the school entrance.
"Huh, I guess I set my alarm for an hour ahead by accident." He said, as he let out a sheepish chuckle, while rubbing the back of his neck.
He looks around to see some penguins wearing the same uniform coming their way to the school.
Rookie didn't want to waste time being distracted, so he decided to head inside, but was surprised by the interior. It has some trophies on the left side, security on the right, and right in front of him, it has a huge staircase. But since it's his first day of high school and his first year as a freshman, he spots a male yellow penguin, with a security uniform, and decides to go talk to him.
"Uh, hey there. I'm new to this school, and I was just wondering if there is anyone who could help give me a tour around this school." He said with a slight nervous tone.
"Well, if you want to get to know the school, then you're gonna have to go to the auditorium, which is on the second floor. You can take the staircase." The yellow security guard penguin said as he pointed to the stairs with his flipper.
"Thanks a lot." Rookie said as he beamed excitedly.
He went up to the second floor, only for him to get confused that there is still nothing but some doors. He even gets a good view out the window in front of him. He was amazed that there are different colored penguins with the same uniforms, just like him. He even notices that some of the penguins have some hair, and there were some wearing pins that represent their gender, and sexuality.
"Wow. I guess there are more students coming to this school than I could imagine." Rookie said as he stared out the window in awe.
He then knocked on one of the doors, and asked the teacher where the auditorium is. Thankfully he got directions to it, otherwise, he would have gotten lost.
There were some students that were sitting in random seats, but he managed to find a seat that was open for him sitting next to one of the penguins who was red.
The assembly starts off with a nice welcome to all the freshmen that are new here, they even tell them how the school works for them, which directions that they need to go, and that they are gonna give them programs and assigned classes that they need to go.
As the penguins lined up to get their programs and assigned classes from the alphabet row, they eventually left. Rookie was next in line, who was happy and got his schedule.
He takes a look at his schedule to see what he got in his classes. His 1st class was Algebra, 2nd class is English, 3rd is Lunch, 4th is Drama, 5th is Social Studies, 6th is Science, 7th is Gym, and 8 is his free period.
Rookie was surprised to see that his final period was actually his free time. He decided to look at the schedule carefully to see which rooms his classes are. Since it's his first period which is on the second floor.
He exits out of the auditorium, and remembers the directions that he previously went and checks the classroom numbers that were on the doors. He double checks to see if it's the right room, but sees it's not the same number
"Aw man, I'm probably gonna be late, and I still don't even know where the correct door number is." He said while feeling like he's about to give up.
"But I can't let myself down. I have to continue doing my best" he said, filled with determination.
He continues to search the rooms that have the correct number on his schedule. Until finally, he sees the correct one.
He didn't notice that there were three jock penguins who were excited and playing around football. They were having fun, until one of them accidentally throws that football that's about to hit him.
"Hey, watch out!!" one of them said, warning the green penguin. Rookie heard the person who shouted, and jumped in fear when he noticed the football that headed straight for him.
But luckily for him, he was saved when a penguin stopped the football with their flipper. Rookie looks at the penguin who has red feathers, and has sunglasses, who was rubbing his flipper from the pain that he took from the football.
"Hey, you almost hurt him with the football. But next time, can you please just watch out where you throw it?" The red penguin said while they politely scolded them.
"Sorry." The three jocks said, as they apologized to him and the penguin in shame.
The red penguin sighed, and turned to Rookie. Rookie got surprised when he saw the red penguin turn to him. But Rookie stood frozen. He was actually starstruck by this random penguin. He couldn't help but look at him.
'Whoa… he looks so… cool.' Rookie thought to himself. His eyes were wide like a deer caught in headlights, and cheeks felt warm, like he was in a sauna. He felt like he was also stuck by an arrow that pierced through his heart.
"Hey kid, are you alright?"
The green penguin snapped out of his trance when the red penguin asked him.
"Oh! Uh- yeah. I'm alright. I was j-just shocked when the football was just heading t-towards me. Hehe." He said nervously, letting out a small chuckle.
Rookie wanted to hit himself in the head with the wall that's behind him for stuttering and some cut offs.
"Wait, what about you? You actually took a hit from that ball." Rookie said as his expression changed into a worried one. He checked on his arm.
"Oh, don't worry. It's not actually a big deal. Besides, it just hurts a bit." The red penguin said, letting Rookie not worry too much, and Rookie let out a sigh of relief.
"Well, thanks for saving me." Rookie said, letting out a slight smile. But then he realized something.
"Oh yeah. I forgot to introduce myself. M-my name is Rookie Romero." He said letting his flipper out to him. He also didn't notice that his own cheeks were burning a bit bright.
"Well Rookie, it's nice to meet you. The name is Guy, Guy Paxton." He said with a friendly smile as he took Rookie's flipper, and shook it.
Rookie's face blushed bright red, while internally repeating 'He shook my flipper'.
"So, I guess we both have the same class together." Guy said with a smirk, as he crossed his arms.
"Wait, how did you know?" Rookie asked in confusion.
"It says so on my class schedule." Guy tells him as he shows him his own schedule.
Rookie looked surprised when he looked at the schedule that Guy has. He even spotted the first period that says algebra. He looks back at his own schedule that had the same class period that he has.
"Well, it looks like we are." Rookie said and beamed happily at him.
"We should probably head to our class. We don't want to be late." Guy said as he walked into their assigned classroom.
"O-oh, y-yeah. Wait for me." Rookie said sheepish, while rubbing the back of his neck.
They both enter the classroom and they take their seats. Rookie took his seat next to Guy. He couldn't even help but listen to his own heart beating a bit fast, while side-eying him.
'Why is… my heart feeling weird? I know it's the first day of school… but, why is it acting up all of the sudden?' Rookie quietly asked himself in head, while feeling his chest with his flipper.
'I should be thinking of this right now. I have to focus on the work that I'm given to do. Just calm down for now. Your life as a high schooler starts now.' He says to himself, while nodding and smiling, filled with determination.
And that's a promise that he will never break
