Chapter Text
Emersyn throws a punch but misses the target with a grunt. She groans annoyed at being unable to hit her opponent. She throws her arms up and turns her back to grab some water, she turns back to her opponent with a sly smile.
“I’m able to beat any other person that you bring into this gym other than you, how do I know you’re not secretly a werewolf” She leans against the wall while sipping her water. She sees her brother out of the corner of her eye and winks at him. He looks at the ground with a quiet laugh.
Kate glares at her, “Emersyn of course I’m not a werewolf and I can only beat you because I taught you and know your next move before you even think it, the only one besides me who might be better than you is Grayson” Kate smirks at both her kids. “I don’t know if you remember that conversation, we had about moving a couple weeks ago, but our timeline has moved up and we need to be in California by next week.”
“Kate, Grayson and I already told you that we would rather stay in New York and train with the hunters here. Why can’t we do that? It’s the middle of the school year and I don’t want to leave our school and the few friends I have. We can always visit you, but please don’t make me uproot my life” Emersyn tries to sway Kate while she walks toward her. Grayson stands up straighter eyes focused on his sister and mother hoping Emersyn might be able to convince her to let them stay.
“Emersyn I can’t leave you two here with these hunters, you know I don’t trust them. I don’t even trust you guys so yes you do have to come. Then you can see Allison and make new friends, she is also new so there will be three of you to figure it out. You guys need to start packing because we leave in two days. Do not disagree with me on this subject again or you will regret it” Kate seethes while getting inches away from Emersyn and shifts her gaze over to Grayson who quickly shrinks in on himself and looks to the ground.
Emersyn keeps eye contact with Kate until she drops it and turns away with a slight nod of the head. Emersyn makes eye contact with Grayson, and they start packing up and leave the gym to their car. Grayson gets in the driver’s seat and waits for his sister to vent what she needs to before they go home.
“I’m sorry” Emersyn looks out the window with silent tears running down her face.
“Why are you sorry Em?”
“You don’t get to do your workout, but I didn’t want to add to my collection of bruises. I also shouldn’t have pushed Kate. I know that, god I’m stupid. I know everything is going to change when we move. She’s going to make us start hunting” She turns to look at him.
“UGH I’m so sorry Gray. I don’t want to do this I hate our family” She sobs.
Grayson looks at her with pity and pulls her into him. He lets her cry it out and just comforts her.
“Hey Em, this is not your fault. If anyone is to blame, it’s Kate and her psychotic tendencies and love for the hunt. We are gonna be okay, it’s us against the world, right? We will get through this move and maybe California will be good for us. Now dry your tears we need to get back home and start packing and if Kate sees you crying you know she’s going to take the gloves off next time you train. I don’t want to clean up a broken nose or a busted lip again so come on.”
“Thanks Gray, I don’t know what I would do without you” They smile at each other and drive away from the gym and to their apartment. They make their way up and to their shared room. Emersyn quickly slips out and into the shower while Grayson gets a head start on packing. When Emersyn gets back, she turns her music up and turns to her side of the room and separating things into piles before packing it up. Neither of them have much so they are able to put a good dent into packing before going to bed.
The next morning, Emersyn gets up early and grabs breakfast for her and Grayson. She puts her headphones in and turns it up until she feels a tap on her shoulder. She takes out an earbud and points to the breakfast on his desk. He gives her a quick nod and turns away to eat. She puts her speaker on and turns up the volume. Around lunchtime there is a knock on their door, but she turns the music up and blocks Grayson from answering it. Grayson pushes past her and leaves the room. He comes back with lunch for them and a dejected look on his face.
By dinner time they are both almost done packing except for things that they need for the drive out there. Emersyn leaves the room first to make dinner and spots Kate in the kitchen waiting for her. She quickly heats up leftovers and tries to slip past Kate and back to their room. Kate catches her forearm as she passes and squeezes. Emersyn winces and tries to pull away with no success.
“You need to stop ignoring me Emersyn. I already talked to your brother, but I’ll tell you the same thing, you can’t call me Kate unless we are alone once we get to California. Nobody needs to know that we have a complicated relationship. Do I make myself clear?” Kate says while tightening her grip on Emersyn’s arm. She nods and rips her arm away from her mom and goes straight to her room. She ignore Grayson’s curious looks and falls asleep as quick as she can.
The next morning, Grayson and Emersyn get everything packed into their car and wait for their mom to be ready so they can leave. They finally get on the road with Grayson and Emersyn in their car and Kate in hers. It takes them a couple days to finally get to California, while trading off who drives every couple hours. As they are nearing Beacon Hills, Emerson gets a phone call.
“Hello”
“Emersyn, I just got attacked by a werewolf. Chris and I are going to go after it, just go to the house and I will be there soon, bye.” Kate said in a rush already ending the call.
“Okay bye” Emersyn said to no one but herself. Grayson looks over at her quickly before looking back at the road.
“Mom just got attacked by a werewolf, but she said we should just go to the house, and she will be there soon. Uncle Chris is going out to meet her and bring her back” she tell him, and he gives her a nod.
They finally pull up to the house and Emersyn gets out to ring the doorbell while Grayson turns off the car and stands behind her. Allison opens the door and Emersyn and Allison smile at each other and hug the other tightly. Allison spots Grayson and laughs a little while pulling him into a rib breaking hug and all three of them are laughing.
Allison pulls away from them smiling, “I’m so happy that you guys are living here for a while.” Grayson nods, “We are too!” Emersyn smiles, “You are the only reason we’re okay with this move.” Allison laughs and pulls Grayson away to the car as Emersyn follows them.
“Let’s go get your bags and get you guys settled into your rooms. Your mom should be here soon. My dad went to help her with her car trouble.” Allison said while Grayson popped the trunk. Between the three of them they can get all their bags in one trip. As they walk into the house, Allison tells them where everything is. They go up the stairs and Allison stops in front of one of the doors.
“Emersyn this is your room; I am in the room next door and Grayson is on the other side of me. Let me know if you need anything. I helped my mom set them both up, but if either of you don’t like anything, we can change it.” Allison smiles at Emersyn as she opens the door.
Emersyn looks in the room smiling, “It’s perfect thank you so much Alli! I should start unpacking before it gets too late.” The room is nice and has gray walls with white furniture and pops of blue, it’s much better than the twins’ room back in New York.
“I will see you in the morning and I can introduce you guys to my friends. Come on Grayson I will show you your room and let you guys get to bed.” Allison says while pulling Grayson down the hall. Grayson looks over at Emersyn and waves at her before she waves back and shuts her door.
Allison stops two doors down and opens the door. “Here’s your room Gray and if you want to change anything we can, I don’t know your style as well as Emersyn’s.” Grayson walks into the room smiling, “It’s great Alli, I love it, thank you for everything I really appreciate it! I’ll see you in the morning.” Grayson gives Allison a quick hug before she goes to her room and Grayson closes the door. He looks the room over and already loves it, the beige walls with black furniture and gray accents are exactly his style.
Grayson puts his stuff done and starts unpacking when he gets a text.

Grayson sends a quick text back before falling asleep.
