Destroy Me

Summary:

A ficlet inspired from a moment in the light novel. Meier Link hires D to kill him, and the dhampir accepts.

Work Text:

"Destroy me."
Meier Link bares his chest.
"No one has hired me," says D.
"I'll be the client."
"..."

Meier Link leans expectantly. D remains placid. The silence between them is breathlessly long.

"I see." D's voice is level.

The full blooded vampire finally exhales.

"By what method?" The dhampir asks.
"Exsanguination and decapitation," is the immediate reply.

A cold satchel of coins is pressed into D's hands before the other can deny his request. Payment silently accepted, D turns heel to walk towards where Meier Link's room lies. The vampire follows.

When they arrive, the vampire arranges himself on the lid of his coffin. He removes his white blouse. D approaches, no edge of hesitation about him.

D moves to draw his blade, and Meier Link stops his hand. He tips his head to the side.

"Must we be so impersonal?"

D stares.

"You want me to drink you?"
"Yes," breathes the vampire.

D considers it.

"No," he says.
"It is my last request," Meier Link intones.

"..."

They share a long, fond gaze. Meier Link takes the dhampir's hand, and pulls him closer still. D steps in, leans over, and wordlessly descends upon Meier Link's neck. He pauses only momentarily.

The bite is slow, and deep, driving into pale flesh. D withdraws his fangs, and drinks. For a long time, they simply look like lovers.

All they share is blood and silence until the vampire shudders under D's grasp. He's fading, his left hand supplies. The dhampir pulls back, lips wet with dark blood.

"Get in your coffin", D says, and Meier Link obeys.

They're apart for only a moment as the coffin lid is opened, and then D returns, cold mouth on a fatal, seeping throat wound. Meier Link makes a sound he doesn't register as his own.

His world narrows down to D's heartbeat. The dhampir is draining him with a dutiful relentlessness.

There comes a point where he goes limp, senses dulled to a blackening roar , and it is then that D stops. He rests the vampire's head on his pillow, and stands.

He draws his sword.

And he hesitates.

He cannot decapitate Meier Link, despite his job.
Perhaps it's the emotion in the blood, his left hand hisses, but D cannot proceed.

He instead arranges the vampire's body for torpor. The vampire needs rest, not death. D closes the coffin, and lets nature run its dark course.
