You Are Loved

Summary:

Amity has a lot of friends and family, but has never felt real love. Luz has a lot of love to give.

Luz works at the coffee shop Amity likes to study at. At first glance, they really caught each other’s eyes, but neither of them really know what to think about it or how to handle their newfound feelings for each other.

Notes:

I haven’t posted on here or written anything really in a long time but it’s nice to be back! At the time of me posting this I have the first 3 chapters written but I’m really excited to see where this goes. I hope y’all enjoy!

Just a warning, there will be things like homophobia and abusive parents shown later in this fic, but I’ll try my best to add content warnings on those specific chapters.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Green frosting to match your green hair

Chapter Text

Amity walked into the coffee shop she went to every Tuesday. Except, no, today was Wednesday. Her schedule was all messed up after being sick and missing some classes. She always came here to study because it was quiet. Way quieter than her house. And she didn’t have to worry about her mom bothering her while she’s here. It’s times like these that she wishes she had a dorm, but her mom insisted that she’s “too good” to live in a dorm and she should live at home instead. In that dusty old mansion her grandparents handed down to them. It’s not exactly Amity’s favorite place in the world.

Hence, the coffee shop.

Amity walked up to the counter and saw a girl behind it she didn’t recognize. She thought she knew everyone that worked here since she comes in so often. Then again, she doesn’t normally come in on Wednesday’s.

“What can I get for you?” The perky barista asked. She’s about Amity’s height, has brunette hair that cuts off right around her chin with a beanie on top, and by the looks of her skin tone she looked to be Hispanic. But Amity was never the best judge of that.

“I’ll have a latte,” Amity said, then glanced at the pastry case. She never usually got anything because her mom was always so strict about sugar, but today, she figured, she could splurge a bit. “And one of those frosted cookies.”

“And is that for here or to go?” The barista asked with an unusually wide smile on her face.

“For here,” Amity replied.

“And your name?”

“Amity.”

“Okay, Amity! I’ll have that out for you in a jiffy!” The barista said. Amity paid then turned around to grab a table while rolling her eyes. Why was that barista so perky? There was no reason for it.

Amity sat down at her usual table in the corner of the cafe and pulled out her laptop to try and catch up on what she missed while she was sick. She sighed when she looked at her unusually long to-do list. She’s gonna be here for a while.

“Here’s your order!” The barista exclaimed, putting her latte and cookie on the table, and startling Amity. “And I picked out the cookie with the green frosting to match your green hair.” She said with a wink before going back behind the counter.

Did she really just wink at me? Amity thought to herself before rolling her eyes and starting her assignments.

Luz walked into the dorm she shared with her best friend Willow and flopped down on the bed.

“How was work?” Willow asked, looking up at Luz from her spot on her bed.

“It was fine,” Luz replied, grabbing her sketchbook out of her backpack.

“Anything interesting happen?” Willow asked.

“Not really,” Luz replied, “I mean, this cute girl came in today who had green hair. I think she goes here, too, because I saw our school website on her laptop.”

“Oh yeah?” Willow said, finally seeming interested. “What’s her name?”

“Amity,” Luz replied. She turned to a new page in her sketchbook and started sketching. As she did, Willow’s phone started going off over and over again.

“Is that Hunter?” Luz teased Willow in a singsong voice.

Willow picked up her phone. “Yes,” she replied, blushing.

“His dorm is only a 5 minute walk away, you know,” Luz pointed out. “Why don’t you go and hang out with him for a while?”

“Because Gus is probably there, too,” Willow explained, “And I love Gus, I do, but sometimes I just want to hang out with my boyfriend.”

“That makes sense,” Luz replied. “Do you want me to invite him over here so you guys can have some alone time?” Luz suggested, waggling her eyebrows.

“Thanks for the offer,” Willow chuckled. “But I’m going to pass. We both have homework we need to get done and if we’re together we won’t do it.”

“That sounds about right.” Luz laughed.

Luz looked at her sketch. When she draws, she just turns off her mind and let’s her hand control the pencil. This time she ended up drawing a face. A very familiar face.

Willow glanced over at her sketchbook. “Who’s that?”

“I think it’s Amity.” Luz replied.

“Why are you drawing her? You’ve only met her once,” Willow pointed out.

Luz sat there in silence staring at her drawing. It definitely resembled Amity. It had her same pointed nose and chin, her half-up-half-down hair, and her round eyes.

Willow looked over at Luz, and Luz at Willow.

“Do you like her, Luz?” Willow asked.

“I don’t know,” Luz trailed off, “I’ve only met her once, how can I know?”

“Sometimes you just know,” Willow replied, looking at the picture of her and Hunter behind her bed.

“Yeah,” Luz replied, looking at her drawing. Does she like Amity? She’s definitely very pretty, that’s for sure. But does she like her life that? She doesn’t even know her well enough to know. She thinks she could like her, but at this moment, she doesn’t know.
