Work Text:

Koga runs through the guitar line over and over again until his fingers hurt. It still doesn’t feel like a normal practice, because Sakuma and Adonis just had to have other jobs. Koga still insisted on practicing, though, which is why he dragged Kaoru with him to an empty practice room in ES.

Kaoru takes her headphones off and flops down on the floor, groaning. “I’ve been dancing for hours,” she complains.

“It’s been like 20 minutes,” Koga corrects him, not looking up from the music sheet. “I could keep going for hours, though.”

Kaoru sighs. “I know. It’s pretty awesome of you.”

“Huh?! What did you—” Koga coughs into his fist. “I mean, yeah, of course I’m awesome, I’m—”

Kaoru rolls over onto her stomach, propping her head up on her hands. “Hey, Koga?” she says. “Can I tell you something?”

Koga flushes. Goddammit, he isn’t used to Kaoru being so sincere with him. “What, ya gonna confess your undying love to me next?” he jokes.

Kaoru scrambles to her feet, face red. “I— uh.” She runs a hand through her hair. “Maybe…” she mumbles.

Koga stares at his unitmate.

Kaoru looks back at him, a nervous expression on her face and her eyes bright. “I mean—! Um, haha, you don’t have to return my feelings or anything,” she says, her voice wobbly. “We can just—forget this happened, okay?” The silence falls flat.

“Oh.” Koga stares at her. Kaoru Hakaze. His cherished senior is staring at him with tears threatening behind her gorgeous eyes, because she thinks— “Fuck,” Koga says, putting his guitar down so fast he practically drops it. He shoots to his feet, hands wiggling around in a panic. “Um, I, oh god, fuck, I mean—” He takes a deep breath and grabs Kaoru by the shoulders. “Hey. Um, this got hella awkward. And I was thinking, maybe I could fix that if I went first.” He meets Kaoru’s eyes—at least she isn’t crying, thank god.

“Koga—”

“Hakaze-senpai,” Koga cuts her off. He decides now is the time to be daring, and call her something he’s imagined before only briefly. “Kao-senpai. I’ve honestly had a crush on you for months now. I think you’re incredible, and hot, and really, really cool, and—”

Kaoru cuts him off with a kiss. It’s soft, and wet, and over really fast, and it’s not at all what he expected, but it stuns him into silence. When Kaoru pulls back, tears have started to run down her cheeks, and she hiccups with a smile. “I love you too.”

Koga kisses her cheek. “Alright, now stop crying, will ya?”

Kaoru laughs, and it’s the best thing Koga’s heard in his life.
