Chapter Text
the lowly lit streetlights, skin glistening with sweat, water tasting more bitter by the second. crickets filling the silence along with deep exhales and reki’s chatter.
“dude! that casper was so,, sick!!”
“-ah, thanks?”
“man, i feel like you could do anything, just you and your board.”
“what?”
“i mean like, everyone loves you, and like you picked up skating so quick yknow?”
“thats..so not true.”
“you already know!”
“i don’t.”
“you totally do,”
reki shifts on the bench, it was warm and kind of run down but it still did it’s job. he sits up and langa seemingly unconsiously follows.
”hm..” reki ponders.
“what?”
“nothing,”
langa stays quiet, while staring at reki. reki looks back, but he soon feels his face getting hot. god, what is this? maybe reki wasn’t all the good with eye contact, i mean he’s always been quite extroverted so *maybe,* he’s just feeling a bit on edge. he looks away quick, then pulling out his phone. he scrolls on instagram for a few seconds just to break eye contact.
the crickets grow louder, but the boys’ silence grows less awkward as reki feels langa’s eyes off him.
“maybe we should go home.” reki suggests, it was getting late anyway.
“can i stay at your place?” langa asks.
“yeah sure,”
they get up, leaving their water bottles and wrappers in the recyling can and skating past the floursecent feeling streetlights. the world falls silent, just the small noise of the wheels running along the road and the occasional pop of boards on the concrete below. no cars, dimly lit streets, the warm and sticky summer air. it was all so imperfectly perfect.
not long later, they make it to reki’s house.
“mom! im home, with langa!” reki’s voice echoes throughout.
“welcome home reki! dinners ready so you two can split it if you’d like!” reki’s mom’s voice responds.
“uh,, ah i apologi-”
“don’t worry about it, langa.”
“oh, okay.”
they make it to the kitchen, looking in the fridge for the dinner. after eating, they head to reki’s room.
“ah- sorry for the mess,” reki laughs, kind of embarassed. langa gives a light smile.
“don’t worry about it,” langa says.
reki starts grabbing small piles of his things and stuffing it in his closet, locking it away until he decides to touch it again.
“here, sit on the bed,” reki says, shutting his closet shut. he goes to his bed, sinking into the comfortable feeling of his blankets and mattress. he lies down fully, closing his eyes. he exhales, feeling tired already. he felt calmer than usual, he always felt this way with langa around. even if they werent talking or facing the opposite direction, his mind felt less full and his leg stopped bouncing. his mind felt empty and calm. reki opens his eyes again, to see langa looking at him. that soft gaze feels nice.
wait, huh?
langa looks away with haste after reki opens his eyes. he looked to the floor, then lies back on the bed next to reki. langa’s shoulder in contact with reki’s. reki’s body feels warm; heart heavy with a sweet feeling. this doesn’t last long, reki felt too comfortable, it didn’t feel right.
he goes to lay down with his head on the pillow, close to the wall to make space for langa. langa mirrors, just closer to the edge. reki and langa are close together, reki’s bed isn’t that large. he doesn’t have any of the fancy big bed sizes or a big room, just something enough to keep him comfortable and content. he has a twin bed, just enough for him and him only. though, due to this reki and langa are pushed up against eachother. reki feels his heart weigh down with that sweet feeling again, his breath caught up in his lungs. langa was already half-asleep, and his head laid on reki’s chest.
reki’s heart beats quick, something isn’t right.
his breath feels short and his mind feels all fuzzy and panicky and drunk all at the same time. what was this? his face grew burning hot, with langa sleeping sound on his chest. all he saw when he looked down was langas snow-like hair. he felt his own heart thumping quick and loud, the moment felt so slow and so fast at the same time. he felt dizzy. there was this feeling in his chest, it didn’t hurt but it didn’t feel right. nothing felt right. reki can feel langa’s slow and calm breathing.
his chest felt tight, hard, soft, fast, and slow all at once.
