Work Text:
Izuku let himself drift on his back, floating on gentle waves. With the setting sun still lighting the Earth, he was plenty warm even in the coolness of salt water and the soft winds blowing around him. It was probably time to start heading back to wherever the shore was, but he couldn’t quite find it in himself to care, just wanting to keep floating until all the sunlight was gone.
Someone’s voice jolted him back to awareness.
“Hey! You okay over there!?”
Izuku righted himself to tread water, whipping his head around to find the owner of the voice, a blond swimming towards him prone on a surfboard, looking rather distressed. As to the source of the distress, Izuku was at a loss. Everything seemed just fine, he was fine. Why was this stranger so worried?
“Are you okay?” The blond repeated as he got closer, holding a hand out towards Izuku who took it reflexively. Before he knew it, the blond surfer lifted Izuku up by the arm and set him down next to him on the surfboard, both of them floating side by side.
“Uhhhh… whoa? I’m–?” Izuku caught his balance on the board, helped by the stranger. “I’m fine? What’s the problem?”
The surfer still seemed distressed, worry in his eyebrows. “Uhh, dude, are you serious?”
To answer his question, the surfer pointed his chin in the direction of where the shoreline was… or at least where it used to be.
Oh. OH.....
Izuku had done it again. He’d accidentally floated out too far. The waves close to the shore made floating too chaotic so he liked to go out past where the waves started, but that always came with the risk of floating too far if he wasn’t paying attention. This wasn’t the first time, but he wasn’t worried. He had excellent swimming skills and knew what to do if he got caught in a rip tide. But apparently he’d gone out far enough to worry this random surfer dude.
“Oh, I’m fine! I promise,” Izuku beamed a smile to emphasize his words. “I just like to float out here.”
“Well, fuck, you nearly gave me a heart attack when I spotted you. You should wear a sign that says ‘I’m fine, just stupid’ so you don’t scare me like that!” The blond shoved Izuku off the board in complaint as Izuku laughed, spluttered, then came up for air with his arms crossed on the surfer’s board, head tilted to look at him.
Now that the situation was settled, Izuku actually looked at this surfer stranger. He was gorgeous and ripped with lean muscle in a classical way and beautiful in a non-classical way. His apparent anger took a forefront on his expression, squishing his eyebrows and nose into something like snarling but it didn’t make him any less pretty. Just… rough perhaps, or rugged. Sun-kissed for sure with the way a faint blush of pink dusted his nose and cheeks.
Just as he was looking at the blond, the blond was also looking at him. Though the other man was the first one to break, using his feet to splash water on Izuku, breaking him out of his admiration.
“See something you like?” The blond teased and sat back supported on his hands as he kept kicking the water, just enough for Izuku to feel it. “Or did you actually hit your head and you’re lying about being fine?”
“I’m fine, I really am fine!” Izuku reassured, then immediately realized his mistake.
The blond grinned, something feral in his expression. “So you do see something you like?”
Izuku spluttered and felt himself heating up, but he really, really couldn’t bring himself to deny it. He turned his head away in embarrassment, hoping that perhaps the ocean would take mercy on him and swallow him whole.
“Hey,” the blond started, reaching over to tilt Izuku’s head back up to look at him, a thumb brushing against Izuku’s chin ever so lightly. “I see something I like too… after all, like you said, you’re fine.”
Bold! Izuku couldn’t help a surprised giggle and pushed the hand away in embarrassment.
The last of the sun started to go down behind the horizon as the blond leaned down ever closer, their faces inches from each other. He was looking at him, eyes watching closely like he could see right into Izuku’s soul. All Izuku could do was look right back.
Pink and orange sunset light danced on the blond’s face and eyes, sparkling at him. The man wasn’t soaking wet but still had a few stray drops of ocean on his skin that dripped slowly down his face, his neck, his chest…. Izuku followed them with his eyes without thinking.
The blond smirked, and in one move, hoisted Izuku back up onto the surfboard. “C’mon, let’s get you back to shore before we’re actually in trouble.”
Izuku squawked in complaint of the manhandling, though he wasn’t even sure if he meant the complaint or not. The surfer ignored him regardless, though that smirk stayed in his expression, as he laid down to his stomach and paddled them towards the shoreline.
“Do you know how to surf?”
Izuku sat cross legged, clutching the board as they moved. “Uhhh… I mean. No.” It was a little bit of an embarrassing answer coming from a guy who lived in a surfing town and worked at a surf shop, but he really didn’t know how. He knew how to swim, as well as body surfing and boogie boarding, but not surfing specifically. “Why?”
The blond’s smirk became bolder as they approached choppier waters, getting closer to the shore.
“Because you’re about to learn. Stand when I do, and don’t fall off!” The blond’s voice picked up over the sounds of the rushing waters building around them. Startled, Izuku realized what was about to happen. A giant wave was literally forming all around them! “Ready!?”
Izuku felt his stomach swoop as the world started to fall beneath the board, angling them down steeply. Wait, wait!! He wasn’t ready for this!
“Here we go! By the way, what is your name!?”
The blond reached out and hauled Izuku to his feet, holding him close to the blond’s body on the board.
“What?! My name!? My name’s Izukooooo!!!” Izuku screamed as the wave dropped them down, down, down, angled so steep he was sure they’d fall off or crash. But they didn’t, the blond holding him tight and keeping their balance as they rode. And of course, the blond was laughing the whole time.
Somehow, no thanks to Izuku’s panicked reaction, they rode the wave all the way in even as it crashed behind them. As soon as the board neared sand, the blond took Izuku in his arms, kicked the board all the way to solid land, and crashed the two of them into the shallow depths where the wave met the shore, laughing as Izuku spluttered. They ended up a tangled mess of limbs, the blond half on top of him still shaking with laughter.
“You should have seen your face! Izukoooooo!” The blond laughed again and landed right on top of Izuku, grinning. “I’m Katsuki. Wanna come back to my place?”
Izuku blinked. The last of the light spilled across Katsuki’s features, lighting up his amusement and beautiful face.
The only answer he had in him was yes.
~~~
Katsuki’s place is nice. Beyond nice, really. Huge windows overlooking the ocean, clean and fancy furniture that most certainly wasn’t second hand like Izuku was used to. He could only imagine what this place looked like in full daylight, it was already a dream like this with the moonlight starting to peek through and a hint of stars through the large windows.
Izuku would have been tempted to explore the home a little more or even look at the stars, but honestly, Katsuki the man himself was even more tempting. Somewhere during their walk back to his place, the teasing started to become something a little more real, something with a little more tension, like a promise more than anything else. With the way their hands knocked together as they walked, Katsuki eventually held his hand while he held his surfboard on the other side. Izuku had barely noticed the man just dropping it randomly at his front entrance, more focused on Katsuki himself.
“Well?” Katsuki crowded him, Izuku tucking up against him like they were still on the surfboard. The man smelled like the ocean, salty and fresh with a small hint of something underneath, deeper and masculine. They were inches away, but Katsuki wasn’t moving any closer. He was waiting.
Izuku took in a shaky breath and closed the last inch, sealing his mouth against the blond’s in a kiss. He might have been too eager at first, but Katsuki caught him perfectly, pressing back wet and salty and warm. Neither wasted any time to deepen the kiss, Katsuki leading with his tongue first, then Izuku, then both at the same time as Izuku tasted nothing but the warm salty taste that he could quickly distinguish as Katsuki. He threw his arms around the blond’s shoulders, pressing tighter with his whole front side plastered against the other’s.
His swim trunks had dried enough to not be dripping, but still damp, just as Katsuki’s were. It sent a chill through his spine at the full contact. All he wanted was more.
“Izuku,” Katsuki panted as he pulled off just enough to speak, voice rough and low. Izuku gasped, mouth open and unable to stay off of the blond enough for him to say anything else. Katsuki had to speak in between kisses. “Izuku… can… I take… you to… the bedroom?”
Izuku nodded, lips catching on Katsuki’s in the process. Again, he couldn’t stay away and dove back in to kiss him. Katsuki made a noise deep in his throat, pulled Izuku closer, then picked him up by the ass. By reflex Izuku wrapped his legs around the other man and let him carry him off. Next thing he knew he was laying on his back on a soft bed, Katsuki crawling on top of him and never letting their lips part from each other’s. That is until they started to heat up a little more, warmth and wetness building in between Izuku’s legs.
“Wait, wait–” Katsuki said as Izuku whined in protest. “One second, I promise. One second, stay right here. Don’t move.”
Izuku whined again, eyes watching in the dark as Katsuki fumbled around the room to turn on a lantern, a long line of string lights, and an electric fireplace.
A fireplace!
“Katsuki….” Izuku teased sitting up on his elbows, “Are you a romantic? I would have never guessed!”
Teasing was exactly the right choice. Izuku giggled as Katsuki turned to scowl at him. “I–! I just couldn’t see– I just couldn’t see you, that’s all!”
Izuku laughed again and sat up fully, eyeing the blond with a piercing look. Katsuki picked up on it and pounced on him, laying Izuku out flat on his back once again and didn’t hesitate to press their mouths together.
Hopefully Katsuki didn’t mind the wet bathing suits and salty skin in his bed, because Izuku wasn’t going to give this up for anything. The warmth of his mouth, the perfect salty wetness that sent tingles down his body every time that tongue touched his. Katsuki was so beautiful, even touching him was like an out of body experience. The muscles of his arms and upper back were divine, Izuku even braved running hands along those perfectly defined pecs. Katsuki encouraged the touch, pressing his chest into Izuku’s hands for the taking, though their front sides were so close already.
Their swim trunks were just damp enough to make a wet noise when they slid together. Izuku gasped with the lewd sound and wanted more.
Though when Katsuki reached out for his own pecs, it was like he’d been dunked in the cold ocean water. Fuck…. He’d forgotten. He’d forgotten to say anything earlier and now here he was nearly naked in a stranger’s bed. Fuck.
“What’s wrong?” Katsuki held himself up with hands on the bed instead of on Izuku, the etching of concern between his eyebrows was back.
God damn it! What was he supposed to say? ‘Sorry, I forgot to tell you I’m trans, please don’t hurt me?’ Sure.
“Um, uhh, the scars, see, so–” Izuku traced a finger on his own top surgery scars, trying to explain. But of course his panicked brain couldn’t put anything that made sense into words. “Because– well.”
Katsuki raised an eyebrow at him, something like a teasing smirk slotting into place as Katsuki seemed to put something together. “Yeah? Hm.”
Instead of saying anything else, the blond just sat up to undo the ties on his own swim trunks and shimmied to take them off, flinging them somewhere on the floor.
Oh. Oh!
That smirk was back, directed at Izuku as Katsuki straddled his hips, the blond’s pussy out on display for Izuku to see, wet and dripping. Izuku didn’t think, just reacted. Before he could blink, Izuku had flipped them over, Katsuki on his back underneath him, Izuku laid out on his stomach so his eyes never left what was displayed for him.
“Ohhh, so you do like what you see?” Katsuki teased, threading a hand into Izuku’s hair, encouraging the move he already so desperately wanted to do. Izuku didn’t need much encouragement at all to lean down, licking a stripe up through those lips between Katsuki’s legs, tasting the wetness and warmth down below.
Just like his mouth, Katsuki was salty down here, but muskier with a deeper scent. Izuku could drown in it, so he let himself. He ran a wide tongue back and forth to explore and spread the wetness out before licking upward where the saltiness turned to almost a metallic taste. Taking his time, Izuku savored the taste and completely ignored Katsuki’s little ‘ah, ah, ah’s’ and his hair pulling, trying to encourage Izuku to go faster. But Izuku wanted this to last, wasn’t in any hurry.
Eventually he felt Katsuki give up and melted underneath him, giving Izuku full reigns to explore and run his tongue along everywhere. It was so wet, getting wetter and wetter. When he narrowed his tongue and focused on Katsuki’s clit, Izuku looked up to make eye contact with the blond, watching as Katsuki’s expression slackened. The blond threw his head back and closed his eyes in contrast to the hands tugging incessantly on Izuku’s hair and squirming hips that couldn’t keep still.
When Katsuki came, Izuku felt it under his tongue and with the way the blond’s body shivered and shook. He coaxed the blond through it, watching him the whole time to memorize that face.
His own body was shaking as he came up for air while Katsuki came down, chest heaving. The blond directed him to lie down next to him, making quick work of Izuku’s swim trunks and hurling them in the direction of his own. Izuku spread his legs and let Katsuki in, a finger finding him and exploring his already very wet pussy. A groan escaped him as he curled in towards Katsuki, feeling the warm skin of his chest.
“Izuku….”
Izuku gasped as Katsuki reversed their flip from before, this time Izuku landing face up underneath the blond. Once again, Katsuki straddled him, legs spread out over Izuku’s own naked hips. Katsuki watched him carefully as he brought a finger or two in between Izuku’s legs, exploring his wetness. Izuku watched him in awe as the blond started to grind down into the air in time with his fingers, finding a paced rhythm to stroke Izuku with. Sparks zinged up through Izuku’s spine, his pleasure building so fast he was afraid he’d explode.
“Izuku….” Katsuki repeated, gasping as Izuku did when he found just the right spot. The finger left him, leaving Izuku feeling cold and confused for just a second as Katsuki’s hands moved to engulf his hips, pinning him down. Izuku could feel where one hand was hotter and wetter than the other.
He was just about to ask what Katsuki was going to do when the blond scooted to straddle just one of Izuku’s legs and descended. Izuku cried out in surprise when Katsuki’s wet pussy pressed into his own, making a squishing wet noise and exploding his body in the new sensations. He’d never done this before, he didn’t even know it was something that could be done. He certainly didn’t know it would feel this good. Katsuki’s pussy was nearly just as wet as his tongue had been, and certainly just as hot if not hotter. Together they found a rhythm grinding into each other, pelvis on pelvis with contact of clit on clit.
Katsuki moved like he was fucking him. He rolled his hips and pressed into the spot that had Izuku seeing stars. Izuku might have blacked out somewhere in there and he found he didn’t mind at all. The blond’s hips stuttered as he came again and Izuku was there too, pleasure climaxing with a push of his own hips, a giant ocean wave cresting. He reached out for Katsuki to keep him right there, right there as they rode together.
~~~
Izuku woke up with the full heavy body of a blond surfer sprawled across his own naked body. It was nice, and it was warm with the new dawn’s sunlight streaming into the open windows. Izuku was right, this house was nice. He could hear the crashing of ocean waves in the nearby distance, seagulls yapping in the early morning.
It was like a dream, something he didn’t know he could keep. And at least for now, he couldn’t. It wasn’t like he even knew what time it was, and he had to go to work!
With that thought, Izuku shot up to upright, sending a grumpy Katsuki to sprawl out on the bed instead of his own chest. The blond didn’t seem completely awake or coherent, but he was clearly complaining anyway, making grumpy discontented noises as Izuku shuffled around.
Whispering a quick ‘sorry’, Izuku left a sloppy kiss on the blond’s cheek, as close as he could get to his mouth with the way Katsuki was flopped down on the bed. Katsuki only made a grumpy noise in response before he was snoring again.
Izuku had to stifle a laugh as he quickly found his own swim trunks and shimmied them on.
He told himself this didn’t count as a walk of shame as he made his way back to his tiny apartment. He didn’t even have shoes on after all, so for all anyone else knew, he’d just gone to the beach for a quick swim. Maybe he was a runner. Not a guy who’d just had the sexiest night of his life and really hadn’t wanted it to end.
Curse you, work duties!
He’d had just enough time at home to shower as fast as humanly possible and change into something decent. It’s not like the surf shop had a dress code, but they were required to wear shoes and shirts at least. He ran to work, nearing two minutes late.
“I’m here! I’m here, I’m not late!” Izuku called out as he sprinted inside. His huffing and puffing breathing starkly contrasted the energy of his fellow coworkers already inside. Denki waved to him from one of the shelves where he was stocking, Uraraka was twirling slowly on a rolling chair at the registar, and Shinso was straight up sleeping on one of the display chairs.
“’Sup dude,” Denki greeted him with a confused smile, “What’s the rush?”
“Ah,” Izuku exhaled as he doubled over to catch his breath. “I’m sorry I’m late!”
“No worries. Sero isn’t even here yet. The boss isn’t even here yet. You’re good, man.”
“Oh, right.”
Izuku settled in behind the counter next to Uraraka, who had started to sort out a drawer of already sorted beads. He was trying to get used to this kind of work culture, but it was hard compared to what he grew up on. If he was two minutes late to any other job he’d ever had, he’d be reprimanded and threatened into never being late again!
In comparison, at this job, the first hour of the day consisted of him watching Uraraka sort beads, helping out a grand total of two customers, and double checking inventory for rental equipment. At some point, their mysterious boss Aizawa had slunk in only to go to the back to take a nap.
He couldn’t believe he’d landed this job. It didn’t pay a whole lot, but honestly not even bad compared to what he’d made before. Their surf shop was multi-purpose, offering rental equipment, a small selection of coffees, ice creams, and snacks, as well as skating and surfing equipment of course. This time of day was usually pretty quiet. There were a few regulars who started their day here for a light breakfast or to grab something to rent for the day, otherwise it only got busier after around noon.
Nothing interesting happened that day until it became busier.
Uraraka had been chatting with him all day about a famous surfer who’d moved to their town recently to train. Apparently the guy was an asshole and she was not excited about him being here. Izuku would have just tuned her out, but really he didn’t have anything else to do.
“Hopefully we never have to deal with him!” She ranted and held up her phone, waving it around. There was some kind of local news article pulled up, though she was moving it around too much for Izuku to make out any of the words on it. “They say he’s some kind of big deal, won all kinds of competitions, but in real life he’s a jerk.”
“Who?” Denki jumped in on the conversation by jumping up on the counter, sliding across it to join them.
“Bakugo, the internationally acclaimed surfer! Why did he have to move into our small little town? Does he think we’re gonna give him the paparazzi treatment just ‘cause he’s famous? Bleh!”
“Ohh,” Denki responded, right in the middle of her sentence. “I think I’ve heard of him. Yeah, I’m sure he’s a grade A jerk. That sounds familiar. Never meet your heroes, or something, right?”
Denki turned to Izuku for his response. Izuku just nodded and shrugged, not really having an opinion.
They had to pause their conversation while multiple customers came in at once, each of them taking roles to deal with concessions or sales. Normally when there was a burst like this, a lull would follow it as customers got what they came for and left. There were a couple tables outside for resting or eating the purchased snacks, so most people lingered there, not inside.
Izuku didn’t really think much of it until he overheard some of the conversation.
“Did you see him? It’s really him!”
“I heard he moved here, but I just didn’t believe it!”
“He’s a model, too, right? At least he should be!”
“I think that was just for the olympics after he got the gold? I don’t know.”
“Do you think he’ll sign my surfboard?”
“Do you think he’ll sign my tits!?”
Uraraka huffed in annoyance beside him while Denki was snickering at the overheard conversations. Izuku busied himself with the customer interactions all the while, largely ignoring his fellow coworkers and the growing crowd.
That was until everyone present started to make a ruckus, somewhere in the store entrance. With all the customers crowding the way, Izuku couldn’t really see what was going on, but he could hear.
“OH MY GOD, it’s HIM!!!”
Everyone was scrambling all at once towards the entrance, talking over each other louder and louder.
In the cacophony of voices, Izuku swore he could hear one he recognized, something gruff and low, saying things like: ‘No, sorry. Move, please. No, thank you. NO, sorry. I’m sorry, please move. Please let me through’.
It wasn’t until that voice yelled “HEY FUCKERS, MOVE OUT OF MY FUCKING WAY” that he realized he did know that voice.
“Ugh, what an asshole,” Uraraka said beside him, rolling her eyes. “Guess we weren’t safe at a surfing shop, go figure.”
Izuku wasn’t listening to her though, he was looking for the familiar spiky blond hair making its way through the crowd.
Katsuki paused as he stepped out freed from the crowd, standing directly in front of Izuku. His pinched and angry expression fell away, leaving his face blank of any emotions instead. The brief pause felt like hours as they stared at each other, Katsuki eventually breaking the tense moment by walking all the way up to the counter to lean both elbows on it.
The crowd hadn’t relented so much as he’d forced his way through, so they were all still on stand by behind him, oohing and ahhing and clamoring in general. Both Katsuki and Izuku ignored them.
“Hi,” Katsuki said, face still impassively blank.
Uraraka scoffed quietly and was clearly trying not to roll her eyes again. Izuku ignored her too and directed his attention to the gorgeous and clearly annoyed blond in front of him, even if nothing was quite showing on his face.
“Can I get a thing of board wax, some sunscreen, and uh, a coffee. Thanks.”
“Mmhmm,” Izuku nodded and began gathering the requested items, looking up at Katsuki every few seconds to try to catch his eyes. But the blond wasn’t even looking at him anymore, just looking around the shop like he was perusing but it really didn’t seem like he was focusing on anything in particular.
Weird.
Izuku rang up the items as a sinking feeling started in his chest.
Katsuki couldn’t really be an asshole, right? Not after their night together. Not with how… considerate… he was. Izuku just couldn’t see it. He didn’t believe it.
But… then why wasn’t Katsuki looking at him? Or acknowledging him in some way?
“Your total is….” Izuku punched the items into the register and finished the sale, placing the sunscreen and surf wax into a bag to hand both the bag and coffee over to the blond. “Thank you, have a good day.”
He really hoped that wasn’t the end of it. He hoped Katsuki would laugh or tease him or something to tell him that last night wasn’t some kind of strange dream. That it was real. That it… wasn’t the beginning and end of any interactions they would have with each other.
“Yeah, have a good day.”
Was… that it?
Izuku watched in disbelief as Katsuki made out the way he came in, pushing through the crowd of gawkers and disappeared. At some point the bell of the entrance door rang and that was it.
Izuku was in a daze for the rest of the work day. It was to the point where his coworkers noticed, but he brushed them off and they didn’t push. He just couldn’t stop thinking about it. In reality of course last night wasn’t just a dream, as much as it felt that way. He was just hoping there could be some sign that it had been real. That Katsuki was touchable, tangible. That he wasn’t going to just disappear into a crowd never to be seen again.
Or worse. Be here, nearby, in Izuku's place of work but not even look at him. Barely give him the time of day. Izuku didn’t think he could handle that.
“You’re on closing duties, since you were ‘late’!” Uraraka said to him as she left for the day. She was mostly teasing since they rotated closing duties with no semblance of order, plus Sero was way later than he was. But he didn’t mind, the more work he had to do the more he could distract himself from his thoughts.
Not that the work was hard enough to distract him, really.
The setting sun glared through one of the windows in the store, lighting up the back wall in pinks and oranges. It was exactly twenty four hours ago that Aizawa had kicked him out of the store early since Izuku ‘worked too hard’ and went swimming in the ocean to cool off, meeting Katsuki in the process. Would he ever see the man again?
The front door dinged open. Izuku didn’t even look up from where he was closing the register to say, “Sorry we’re closed! I just forgot to lock the–”
Izuku nearly dropped the cash he was holding when he did look up only to find Katsuki himself standing there. His hair was wet like he’d been in the water, but he was wearing clothes this time. If board shorts, a loose tank top, and flip flops were enough to consider as clothing.
“K-Katsuki?!” Izuku did put the money down then, back into the register so he could gawk properly.
“Hey.” Katsuki slid his sunglasses up to sit on top of his head, more of a nervous gesture than anything else. He approached Izuku at the front counter, not quite looking Izuku in the eyes. Both of them were quiet for a long moment, Izuku trying to figure out what to say and Katsuki fidgeting with his sunglasses. “Hey, uh, Izuku. I was wondering… if I could buy you an ice cream.”
The blond nodded to the freezer of ice cream behind Izuku and shrugged his shoulders like he wasn’t quite sure of himself.
Was Katsuki actually… nervous?
Izuku shook out his head to ground himself before turning around to scoop out two cones of vanilla ice cream. “It’ll cost you though,” Izuku said as he handed one of them to Katsuki.
The blond tilted his head, probably since instead of taking any cash from him, Izuku finished closing the register with one hand and took the keys to the front door with him.
“Well? C’mon. One ice cream costs one walk on the beach,” Izuku said with a smile he couldn’t hold back. “Better pay up.”
Katsuki shook his head with his own smile and followed.
They walked the beach, each with their pair of shoes in one hand and an ice cream cone in the other. Katsuki ate his so much faster than Izuku and Izuku didn’t understand how. Katsuki in turn couldn’t understand how Izuku could take so long with his since it was starting to melt, but he had to savor the taste!
They hadn’t said much to each other at first as they walked, both focused on their ice cream and settling in beside the other.
As soon as Izuku had the last bite of the bottom of his cone, both of them spoke up at the same time.
“Izuku.”
“So you recognize me?”
Both of them came to a halt, Katsuki with an incredulous look in his expression that was almost comical.
“Recognize you!? What, from last night!? Yeah, I knew you were a dork. C’mon, Izuku!” Katsuki huffed in amusement and tackled Izuku from around the shoulders, landing both of them in the still sun-warmed sand.
“But–!” Izuku started, “You didn’t say anything. Earlier today.”
“You didn’t either! What do you want me to say, oh hey, hottest guy I’ve ever met! Remember me, the guy you hooked up with last night!”
“Pfft!” Izuku spluttered under the blond as Katsuki leaned on him just a little too much for Izuku to get up or move. “The hottest–? Me?!”
“I mean, fucking duh. Have you seen yourself?!”
“Me?” Izuku repeated. “I thought… I thought you maybe weren’t interested. Not after… after you didn’t say anything in the shop today.”
“I thought you weren’t interested! When I woke up to a cold bed with the cute boy I’d slept with the night before long gone! I’d thought it was just a dream.”
Izuku freezed for a second, Katsuki’s words echoing his own previous thoughts. Then he laughed. He laughed and rolled them to lie on Katsuki again, not caring that they were getting sand everywhere.
“I thought it was just a dream. I’m pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn’t.” Izuku smiled and got up, offering a hand to a blond who had his own smile, though a bit teasing like he wanted to tackle Izuku again.
They continued down the beach hand in hand and talked as the moon came out, this one bright and full.
“–So, I moved here, trying to get away from all of that,” Izuku explained. He didn’t like talking about his life before he’d moved here, but with Katsuki it was easy. Katsuki just nodded and squeezed his hand.
“I understand. It’s not exactly the same reason, but I needed to get away from everything, too,” Katsuki started, kicking sand with his toes as he walked. He gulped before continuing. “I was… overwhelmed. Being in the spotlight and shit. That’s not why I took up surfing. It’s not why I love surfing. I don’t want all the corporate crap and meetings and expectations... I just wanna surf. You know?”
“Yeah,” Izuku responded, squeezing Katsuki’s hand in turn. He didn’t know exactly, since he wasn’t a surfer and certainly wasn’t internationally famous, but he still understood.
“I had to fight with my management to even move here. They can’t make any money off of me if I’m just here, surfing for fun. But I don’t care about that. Honestly, they think I’m gonna get bored here and move back to the bigger city, but… I have a feeling that’s not gonna be the case.”
Katsuki looked deliberately at Izuku, like he was checking him out. Izuku flushed, pressing his lips together to suppress a giddy grin.
“I– uh, I hope you stick around,” Izuku admitted.
The blond’s lips twisted into something like a smile as well, even if he was trying to hide it.
“I just might.”
They let the crashing ocean waves take the conversation for a bit before Katsuki looked away suddenly, something like self-consciousness in his body language.
“Um. So, earlier today.”
“Hm?” Izuku tilted his head, not letting Katsuki let go of his hand.
“In the shop. I know they all think I’m just a jerk, and like, you can tell me if I’m being a jerk, but–”
Izuku could put some things together. He knew what Katsuki was trying to say. In response, Izuku leaned over to kiss Katsuki’s cheek, much to the blond’s surprise. “Maybe you were a jerk, I don’t know, but they kinda forced it on you. You were just trying to shop and they were all crowding you, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Does… that happen a lot?”
“Yeah.”
“Hm.” Izuku was thoughtful for a minute, Katsuki paused in his walking next to him so Izuku paused too. “We can come up with some kind of protocol, at least for our shop, so that doesn’t happen again. Like only so many people can linger at a time and they certainly shouldn’t be allowed to harass you, right?”
Katsuki looked dubious for a second before bursting out into laughter. “Izuku! You aren’t doing a very good job proving to me that you aren’t just a dream! Like damn, okay. Sounds fucking good to me.”
Izuku pulled the blond in closer, his free hand on Katsuki’s cheek to pet lightly. “Katsuki. Do you want to come over?”
Katsuki… didn’t answer. He was looking at him, expression largely unreadable.
“Oh, um, okay,” Izuku faltered, suddenly so unsure. Did he read this wrong? “Yeah no, yeah, if you wanted this to be like, a one time thing or something, uh–”
Katsuki gave him that incredulous look again before straight up bonking his head against Izuku’s forehead.
“Ow!”
“Yeah fucking ow! That’s what you get!” Katsuki said, taking Izuku’s face in his own hands. “I swear to god, both of us might just be a fucking mess. We’ll have to make it all work somehow. I was going to say yes but got lost in your eyes and forgot to speak. But if you want this to just be a one night stand, then—”
Katsuki dropped his hands and started to walk away, hands in the air waving randomly. Izuku guffawed and jumped out to tackle him, leaving them once again covered in sand and in a tangle of limbs. The sarcasm in Katsuki’s teasing words was too much, so Izuku had to kiss him in retaliation. It didn’t seem to be much of a punishment as Katsuki just gasped and kissed him back.
“Okay, so not just a one time thing, right?” Izuku said as he came up for air.
“I’m not fucking letting you go! Ever!” Katsuki pulled him back down as if to prove his point.
Eventually they made it to Izuku’s apartment for the night, but not until several hours later when both of them somehow got sand everywhere.
