Chapter Text
This had been the best week of his life.
7 days ago, they had moved P.I.X.A.L.’s things into his room.
6 days ago, they ran through one last rehearsal.
5 days ago, he married her. He married P.I.X.A.L… HE MARRIED P.I.X.A.L.!
4 days ago, he… he… just couldn’t get enough of being P.I.X.A.L.’s husband.
3 days ago, he and his bride returned to the monastery, to a surprise celebration held by his family.
2 days ago… okay, there was nothing particularly exciting, but for the ninja that is always welcome, and it was perfect.
So, Zane wasn’t going to let Kai get to him now. Not before they could finish off the perfect week.
He wasn’t like this when Jay and Nya got married. Why does he have to be like this for me? I know nothing is fair in the life of a ninja, but really?!
But the nindroid couldn’t ignore his brother forever. He tuned back into Kai’s teasing, thankful that P.I.X.A.L. wasn’t here to bear witness to this.
“-I mean, poor Lloyd.”
“What about Lloyd?” His normally even voice came out with a bit of a growl, which startled him. Sure, he hadn’t gotten much sleep recently, which wasn’t ideal for his emotionally stability, but to get frustrated at his brother...
But if Kai noticed Zane’s poor attitude, he made no comment. In fact, he just continued to give his less than appropriate remarks.
“We all know that the monastery’s walls aren’t the most soundproof. Only one wall between your bedrooms… my poor baby brother…”
“Our baby brother.”
“Yes, our baby brother. Our poor baby brother…”
“Kai.”
“Yes, Zane?”
“Please, stop talking.”
Now Kai noticed Zane’s annoyance. He gave a mockingly flabbergasted response, throwing a hand over his chest in a motion so dramatic that it would’ve made Jay blush. Zane may have closed his eyes to keep Kai from seeing his eye roll, his fingers tapping against his knees.
“Now look what you’ve done, Kai! You made him mad.”
The Earth ninja walked into the living room, a plate of leftover wedding cake in his hand.
“Oh, hi Cole.”
“Sup, Lord of the Flames.”
“That’s a new one.”
Cole just grunted in response, flopping himself down on an armchair. He looked between his brothers, one with a giddy smirk and the other pinching his nose bridge.
“Though seriously, leave Zane alone.”
“What? I didn’t do anything. Just reminding him to be considerate is all.”
“That’s a first.”
“Shut up, boulder brain.”
“See, this is why I can’t see you having to remind Zane to be considerate. You, the master of swears, telling Zane, the innocent one, to be mindful of others? Yeah. I don’t buy it.”
“Well, I doubt he’s very innocent. He may not have gone on his honeymoon yet, but he is married.”
“Fair.”
“I’m right here, brothers.”
“We know, Zane.” The elemental masters replied in unison.
“Then why do you insist on-” He cut himself off suppressing a groan. The more emotional he got, the worse the teasing would get, and the last thing he wanted was for Cole to join in the “fun.”
First Spinjitsu Master…
No, he wasn’t going to let this get to him.
Wordlessly he tried to turn his mind onto something else. A distraction. Reciting the digits of pi usually helped.
3.14159… 26535…89793…
Zane could vaguely hear Kai start to explain the joke to Cole as he tallied the numbers in his head. To his credit, for the most part Cole kept his face stoic, so things didn’t look hopeless for their brother in white. But then, the cake got put down and that was never a good sign. Zane snapped back to reality.
“That’s fair. I mean, my room shares a wall with Jay and Nya’s and man, sometimes I wish that they would keep it-”
“Nope!” Kai screamed jumping up from the sofa and throwing his hands over his ears. “Lalalalala, I can’t hear you.”
“You can’t run from the truth, Kai!”
“LALALALALALALA”
The childish mantra quickly got quieter and quieter as Kai booked it out of the room. Cole just chuckled, grabbed the cake off the table, and took a bite. Waving his fork in the air he turned to Zane with a smile tugging on his lips. The smile wasn’t just because of the exquisite flavor of the pastry either.
“Knew that would get him to shut up.”
“Thanks, Cole.”
“No problem.”
