Souls on fire

Summary:

Prapai sees him for the first time at his best friend’s birthday party. A beautiful, almost counting as pale, young man. He looks insecure, as if he wants to back out at any moment, while at the same time he seems to search for someone. The lights in the garden are barely enough for Prapai to make out his features, as hidden as the young man stands in a shadow cast by the man-height wall of the pool.
If not for his inherent abilities he naturally owns as a born Vampire, he wouldn’t have caught a sense of the man at all.
But as it stands, he is not the only one whose attention the man captivated.

Or: Prapai is a born (alpha) vampire. He doesn't need blood to survive, but energy. Energy he draws from sexual intercourses.
Until he meets Sky at Phayu's birthday party.
His whole world turns and shifts into a direction he never thought possible.

Notes:

All of the story and worldbuilding is based on an original story I wanted to write since over 2 years, but just didn't yet. It's largely non-traditional both in regards to Vampires, as well as Alpha/Omega, leaning closer to IRL Magic World than the usual fictional one we all know.

It's a mixture of all the tropes I LOVE to write (and read) combined into one fic.
(non-traditional) Vampire - (non-traditional) Alpha/Omega - Soulmates - Reincarnation - (non-traditional) Magic - and ofc LOOOOVEEEEEE

Chapter Text

Prapai sees him for the first time at his best friend’s birthday party. A beautiful, almost counting as pale, young man. He looks insecure, as if he wants to back out at any moment, while at the same time he seems to search for someone. The lights in the garden are barely enough for Prapai to make out his features, as hidden as the young man stands in a shadow cast by the man-height wall of the pool.
If not for his inherent abilities he naturally owns as a born Vampire, he wouldn’t have caught a sense of the man at all.
But as it stands, he is not the only one whose attention the man captivated.

Phayu’s parties tend to get overboard at times.
Atop it all stand Phayu’s (and consequently Saifah’s) birthday parties. A scale no one can measure up to. No one ever knows how many people will eventually fill the house and the garden, how many of them are of their kind (vampires), how many will be alphas looking for a willing omega for a night, how many belong to the mafia in any degree, and how many are either half or full magical beings, or just normal humans who just happen to have enough money to belong to the twin’s circle.

Prapai thinks the young man, whose rapidly filling too many individuals interests, is neither of it. His white skin would indicate vampire blood, but his demeanour screams omega. Human omega.
Prapai scents the air carefully when the wind carries the omega’s scent into his direction, gets immediately overwhelmed by a sweet scent he wants to own, mixed with what is undoubtedly fear.
The young man isn’t here for Phayu nor for Saifah. This much is sure.

Prapai makes his way towards the beauty, just the same moment someone else has decided on the same plan.
“Such a beautiful omega all alone here.” Prapai hears the other individual - an old alpha - saying with a sleek voice promising a non-consensual night for the omega. He sees the omega flinching away from the alpha, taking two steps back, cornering himself against the tall pool’s concrete wall.
Prapai speeds up, reaches the omega just the moment the alpha reaches his hand out. In one swift move, he draws the young man away from the wall, against his chest, draws his arm around the shivering omega’s waist. “You might do better to leave.” He says, his voice calm, laced faintly with his authority as a high-born vampire, “You wouldn’t want Phayu to get to know what you were up to, would you?” he asks, but means it as the threat it is. No one messes with omegas under Phayu’s watch. Least of it at his own parties. Everyone knows the painful end undoubtedly occurring whenever Phayu, P’Chai or P’Pakin find only a hint of a misbehaving individual.
The alpha pales consideringly, stutters a “I meant no harm.” before scurrying off.
Prapai watches him leave, extends his powers to trace the man’s energy down until he leaves the grounds, only then refocuses on the now still omega in his arms. He meets wide eyes trying to look unaffected, collected, even though the young man’s scent screams of fear, and something else Prapai can’t place.
“Sky?… Sky!” he hears a voice shouting over the lane, atop the blasting music coming from inside the house. “Sky! There you are!”
Rain comes running to them, grinning hugely, oblivious to any distress like always.

Prapai met Rain this morning for the first time, while he helped the twins setting up the party. He is Phayu’s new omega, not yet mated nor bitten, but without a doubt Phayu’s possession. A young, little brat, who not yet knows what kind of power he owns over Phayu.
It was almost funny to watch them the whole day. He’d never seen his best friend besotted like that. A clear indication Phayu has finally settled down, has finally found his other side.

Rain halts in front of them, his eyes darting between Prapai and Sky, before he breaks into another, brighter grin, “You already met P’Phayu’s best friend?” he asks Sky excited.
“We were just about to head into the house.” Prapai says, saving Sky - the name doing things to his heart he never felt before - the answer.
“RAIN!”
They all turn their head in unison, watching Phayu stalking over to them, his expression hard. “I told you to not leave my side.” Phayu says with a warning. The moment he is within Rain’s reach, he wraps his arm around Rain’s shoulder in what is more than an obvious, possessive move.
“I only came here to search for Sky.” Rain says with an obliviousness of a brat, a pout on his lips, “There’s so many alphas here.” He adds, makes big round eyes at Phayu.
‘Ah’, Prapai thinks, ‘Not that oblivious then.’ His arm tightens around Sky’s middle at the same moment he says, “The wind is watching over the Sky. You don’t have to worry.”
Rain and Phayu’s head turn towards him. While Rain nods in (probably feigned innocence), Phayu’s eyes narrow, briefly wander to where Prapai’s hand firmly sits on Sky’s hip. His expression becomes knowing before he says, “Rain, come with me.”
“But P’…” is all Prapai hears while Rain is dragged away.
The moment the couple is out of sight, Sky shoves himself out of Prapai’s hold, takes two steps back. “What do you want from me?” he asks, his voice strong, confident, but his eyes dancing with insecurity and edges of fear, “My blood?”
Prapai shakes his head, smiles, “I don’t need to drink blood. I am not this kind of vampire.” His senses register a surge of energy from the side. His eyes dart over the crowd, only to find another alpha staring down Sky with hunger in his eyes. This one potentially dangerous, for even though Prapai can sense he isn’t a shapeshifter, he had a wolf shapeshifter in his bloodline centuries ago. A species who not easily take a no as a no.
His eyes dart back to Sky, who has his arms crossed in front of his chest by now, looking at him with one raised eyebrow.
“Let’s find a safer place for you. An unknown omega in these circles is rare. You will end up as a feast for someone if we don’t leave the garden now.” Prapai says.
Sky looks defiantly at him, “I can take care of myself.”
Prapai feels the mistrust running through Sky. He thinks he is lured into false security, only to be fed upon in a dark corner. He seems to be particular sceptical towards vampires.
Prapai is about to retort, when Sky says, “Please excuse me.”
He watches Sky turn around, walking away in the direction of the house where Phayu and Rain had vanished before.
“Feisty.” He murmurs to himself, a smile sitting on his lips while he narrows his senses down to the vanishing man. He’s not going to let him off the hook this fast.
Whatever it is, and however he had done it, Sky is the first person he is genuinly interested in. He wants him.
To his greatest surprise, he wants Sky not only for a night full of sensual sex.
He already misses the warmth where Sky had fitted against his body perfectly.
An instance he should be worried about, but instead fills him with a sensation he had never felt before.
