Work Text:
Serizawa has had it. There are only so many times he can put up with Reigen’s demanding and cocky tone. Reigen doesn’t even make time to spend with him outside of the office anymore but Reigen sure makes time hopping from bar to bar. It’s almost like some pathetic excuse he is using to desperately clutch to his remaining twenties.
Serizawa knows better than anyone what it’s like to lose most of your youth but even then Serizawa knew when to act mature. So he just can’t grasp why Reigen would do that? Maybe it's because he had always had to work and no one was there supporting him but he has Serizawa now. Serizawa would drop everything to protect him.
Serizawa tells himself this is the last time weekly. He wants to fix the shambles of their relationship. He loves Reigen. He truly does.
Earlier that day Reigen told him he would be heading to one of the local bars to meet with some colleagues from previous jobs. Serizawa doesn't buy it. They work in the same fucking business. Serizawa assumes he is just drinking himself into a numbing state. Serizawa has offered so many times to help with this new habit he picked up.
He missed when Reigen couldn't even handle a beer or two. The one that would drunkenly shower him with kisses and tell him how much he loves him. Things were so good. Incredible even.
This is the last time.
He will go get Reigen. Bring him home to their shared apartment. Well not completely shared, Serizawa still has a few months on his lease at his previous apartment. He has one of Reigen’s favorite B-Grade movies ready to go. He set up Fizzy drinks, candy, and popcorn. One of their first dates was seeing a movie together. Maybe this could help rekindle what they had.
Serizawa heads out to the bar called ‘Seasoning Spirits’. What an ironic name. Reigen never went to ‘Happy trail’ anymore. That was too tame for him now.
He pushes the heavy door open. Stepping inside scanning for that poof of yellow hair poking out. It's too hard to see anyone clearly. This place is crowded. It's all too loud and overwhelming. The bright purple glow cast over the bar was already giving Serizawa a headache.
He walks up to the bar. Searching for the bartender. Serizawa definitely stood out in there and not just because he was tall. He was severely underdressed. He wore just a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie. It didn’t matter anyways. He is just gonna get Reigen and go. It doesn’t make a difference what these people think.
Serizawa waves down the brunette bartender. He was quite lanky and baby-faced. Reigen was unfortunately a regular here now so the bartender must know where he is.
Serizawa speaks loudly, Trying to communicate over the music and chatting around him. “Have you seen Reigen? He has yellow-toned hair.”
“Yeah, he went out back! I’m not sure who you are but I wouldn’t go out there right now.” The bartender wasn’t stupid. A man who came looking for Reigen? Wasn’t the first time.
“Whatever.” Serizawa headed to the back. He didn’t have time for this. Reigen is probably puking out in the alleyway. Serizawa has warned Reigen to stop drinking Lemon sours many times because this is what it does to him. He always scurries to the back to vomit.
He shoves his way through the herd of people. There were couples everywhere. Practically on top of each other.
He forces the door open leading to the alley. It was dark. Besides the one light connected to the building. Faintly Illuminating the brick and the two people leaning against it.
Serizawa squints. He makes out two forms. A tall man with black hair. He had a muscular build. Tattoos peeking out from his black T-shirt. He looked around 30 years old.
The other man had soft tufts of yellow hair. A Slender build. Wearing a dress shirt half unbuttoned. The yellow-haired man had his hands wrapped around the taller man’s neck. He had his head tilted back. His eyes shut as the man kissed his neck. Enjoying the sensation.
Serizawa gulped. “…Reigen?”
Serizawa hoped he was just imagining things. No way this was Reigen? Sure they were going through a rough patch but Reigen wouldn’t stoop this low would he?
Reigen’s eyes shot open in fear. That’s the one person’s voice he didn’t want to hear right now. Reigen shoves the man off him.
“Oh come on Reigen! We haven’t done it in like a week. Why are you being like this now?” The man was angry. Speaking like he had ownership over Reigen. Over Serizawa’s boyfriend.
“Just a second,” Reigen told the black-haired man.
Reigen took a step towards Serizawa.
Serizawa took one back. He kept hoping he would wake up from this nightmare. You can’t wake up from real life though.
“Katsuya please, it's not what it looks like! I was just not myself! I’m okay now. So let’s just head back. We can talk this out, yeah?”
Reigen kept glancing back at the other man. As if he was checking to see if he would leave like he was worried about him.
“Talk about what Arataka? How you are out nearly every night. How you are in a shady fucking alley getting your neck sucked on by a man who you apparently ‘haven’t done it in a week’ with. Are you fucking kidding me?” Serizawa was infuriated.
“Serizawa please!” Reigen keeps walking closer to Serizawa trying to close the gap between them.
Serizawa without thinking uses his powers. Reigen’s heels of his shoes scraped against the pavement as he was propelled back.
“So now you are gonna use your powers on me and I’m the bad guy? Grow up Katsuya!” Reigen didn’t mean it. He just needed someone to blame for his shitty actions.
“It’s because you are the bad guy! Pull your head out of your ass!” Serizawa speaks louder this time. His voice was strained and grew quiet. “How long Arataka? How long have you been cheating on me during our relationship?” Serizawa was frightened to hear the answer.
Reigen went silent. He fucked up. He knew he did. His lying went way too far. Reigen sighed, placing a hand behind his head.
“4 months.”
“Are you fucking joking? Our one year was in three days!” Serizawa yelled desperately. Trying to reach Reigen. Not the Reigen he sees but the one he knew. His Reigen. Not this monster standing before him.
“I don’t know what you want me to say, Serizawa… Do you want me to say sorry? If that’s what you want that’s fine like I said we can talk this out.” For someone who wants to talk things out, he seems rather nonchalant about this.
“Fuck you. Do you think sorry will fix this? Just spend the night with your new boyfriend. I’m packing my shit. I don’t want to see your face ever again.” Serizawa turns around quickly. Shielding his face. He doesn’t want Reigen to see him cry as he walks away from the scene with fists clenched.
The man with black hair walked over to Reigen. Draping his arm around his shoulder. “Sounds good to me. I already had a hotel room booked. Ready to go… Arataka?” The man drags out his name in a mocking tone. “Leaving a trail of broken hearts lately huh?” the man sneered.
“Shut up. Let’s just go. I’m tired” Reigen starts walking away, leaving the other man to follow behind him.
That was the last time.
Serizawa and Reigen never spoke again. Reigen mailed him his last check and that was it.
Serizawa ended up moving away from Seasoning City, leaving all his memories there. It was just too painful. He stayed in contact with the kids. Serizawa and Reigen had an unspoken agreement not to share Reigen’s infidelity with the kids. Clearly.
Serizawa also didn’t want to take away the version of Reigen that the kids knew. The one who looked out for them.
He just wished he still had his Reigen.
