Chapter Text
Yuzu dreamt of Dragons last night. Except she didn't see Dragons destroying villages or sleeping on a pile of gold. She dreamt of singing dragons. Singing dragons that were laying on a field of flowers and grass while the Moon was clear and full in the gusty sky filled with birds flying around. Yuzu wanted to check out the dragons and their concert, wanted to hear the whole song they have been singing.
But Yuzu woke before that happened. Back in her own bed in her own pajamas.
"Dang it, it happened again." she whispered under her breath. The singing Dragons was a recurring dream she kept having every night for the past week. No matter how many times she kept trying to see how it ends, she would wake up at the good part.
However, the real world had things for her already, and she wasn't going to just mope over a dream. Yuzu simply got out of bed and immediately went onto her daily routine of getting ready. Her usual clothes were brought up as she dressed herself and brushed her hair into her usual pigtails. The last thing she put on was her special bracelet. It was metallic with pink stones embedded on each side. Yuzu always wore that bracelet, just like her sisters have done with theirs, since it was something special.
"Good morning Yuzu," Ruri said as Yuzu entered the kitchen. Out of the oldest in the quadruplets, Ruri was the one with the most cooking skills. For today's breakfast, it was homemade waffles with a fruit bowl. It was natural for the four of them to eat together despite their father and half-brother not at the house at this time of hour, having already went to support the family. While Yuzu ate, her thoughts still kept going back to the dream with the singing dragons. Although once she finished her plate, she still wouldn't move a bit, even closing her eyes a bit.
"Yuzu, are you alright? You look very tired." Rin asked, pressing the back of her hand to Yuzu's head. Yuzu was able to gently move Rin's hand away. Rin may have sass during her duels and guys, but she still can get a bit protective of her sisters.
"I'm alright, I was just...thinking about something," Yuzu said as she put on her shoes and grabbed one of the family bags. "I'm going out."
"Come back safe." Serena said as she struggled a bit with the yellow hairband she always wore. She always says that whenever one of them would leave the house or Duel School by themselves, mostly due to her trying to at least a sense of authority and protection as an older sister. Yuzu nodded as she opened the door. Yuzu did remember that she had an errand to run. It was clear when she saw the item in question already in that bag. Yuzu put it there last night. She knew where she needed to go, only she had to walk by plenty of Duel Schools to get there. She could see much of their advertisements, showing how much prosperous they claim to be. Yuzu could also see some Duelists coming out from one Duel School looking happy. Yuzu ignored them though, she still had loyalty for her own Duel School.
You Show Duel School was one of Yuzu's favorite places to be, considering one of the reasons is that she grew up going there to Duel and learn how to be a Dueltainer. However, despite the happy environment and skills she acquired, Yuzu felt like she wanted at least there should be something more to her life, including getting her choice of an Extra Deck style. Her sisters have mastered their own, Serena chose Fusion, Rin got getting used to Synchro, and Ruri and Shun worked together with Xyz. Sure, Yuzu has her Tribute Summons, but somehow, she felt like she was not catching up. And she still has no idea which Summoning to choose.
"Yuzu! Yuzu!"
Yuzu turned to see one of her friends, and also another student of You Show, running over. Atsune Sato had an odd fashion sense even when wearing her Paradise Prep school uniform jacket. Today was a simple green shirt and sweatpants. Once Atsune finally stopped and was catching her breath, Yuzu smiled and helped her up "Hey, Atsune. What's with all the running?"
"There's a Duel happening at the park grounds!" Atsune said, heading straight to the point of what she wanted to say. Yuzu went with Atsune to see such a thing, mostly to pass time, but students of You Show always knew that watching a duel helps develop observation of upcoming strategies and what to do with certain cards. At the area, she could see Fuji from Communication Duel School, along with his opponent. Atsune did most of the explaining.
"This guy, the one Dueling Fuji, he's a Dueltainer just like you. And get this, he Pendulum Summons!"
Now that was interesting thing to hear, and the Duel in front of her showed proof of two pillars of light with a number at the bottom of the monsters inside those pillars. Yuzu could see many more people watching, which she knew it would happen. Just the word "Pendulum Summoning" would get people worked up, considering that it's recently new.
The Dueltainer that Atsune was talking about was a boy possibly around Yuzu's age. He wore an orange t-shirt that had a belt wrapped at the waist and dark green baggy pants with deck pockets on them. He had red wrist bands, shoes, and a red Duel Disk with a yellow blade. He had dual-colored green and red hair fitted with goggles. What was more interesting were his eyes. Yuzu remembered reading about such a thing once. The Dueltainer had Heterochomia Iridum; a genetic condition where one color of the iris of the eye is different from another. This Dueltainer had his right eye a ruby red while the left eye was a bright green.
"Ladies and Gentlemen!"
This did get his opponent a little confused as to why he said that.
"I Pendulum Summon once more!"
In a flash of light, the pillars that formed as Pendulum Scales glowed more brightly and released two colored spheres.
"Welcome to the cast, Performapal Whip Snake!(Level 4/EARTH {Reptile/Effect} ATK/1700 DEF/900) And bring on to the stage, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"(Level 7/PS:4/DARK {Dragon/Pendulum/Effect} ATK/2500 DEF/2000)
One of the monsters was a purple cobra wearing a bowtie and a hat. The other was a tall Dragon withered scales and peachy armor and two horns from its head and back. Like its Dueltainer, it also had the same eye colors of red on the right and green on the left. What was more surprising to Yuzu that the dragon looked somewhat familiar for a reason.
"I'll activate Performapal Whip Snake's effect. I can target a Monster on the field to switch its ATK and DEF. Confusion Venom!"
The monster being described curled itself up before striking at a fast pace. The monster that it bit was then enveloped in a dark aura as its own ATK was lowered, though it was clear of what really happened to its ATK and DEF.
"And now, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon attacks. And that's where its effect comes in, doubling the damage whenever it attacks a monster. Spiral Flame Strike!"
With that said, the dragon unleashed a blast from its mouth as it destroyed the opposing monster. Fuji was flown a bit back after that heavy blast, as his own Life Points decreased really hard.
"And how, Performapal Whip Snake attacks directly!"
And just like that, the next monster on the Dueltainer's field did its quick reflex and attacked the opponent like how any snake would attack their target. Fuji was forced to land on his butt as his Life Points were finished. The Dueltainer took one bow as he said, "And that's a wrap."
Yuzu could hear other people talking as they left the scene. Most were talking about the Pendulum Summoning, although she did hear some others.
"Those monsters are so amazing. Including that dragon of his."
"Don't forget about that Dueltainer too. He's so cute, especially with his eyes. They're so unique."
"Did you like that Duel, Yuzu?" Astune asked. Yuzu could only nod as her thoughts went back to the Dueltainer that somehow disappeared, like he was never there in the first place. As much as she liked spectacles in honor of You Show, something else was itching in her thoughts. And it also brought back her thoughts about the dream she kept having too.
Either way, this was definitely an unusual day.
