Chapter 1: Caleb and Evelyn

Chapter Text

King Caleb watched as his wife struggled to breathe. He couldn’t stand to see the love of his life struggle like this any longer, but he didn’t know what to do anymore. He had searched throughout the whole kingdom and beyond for a doctor able to cure her illness, yet nobody could.

Just a couple of months ago everything was perfect. The Kingdom was doing great and his wife was pregnant, they were going to be able to bring their child into this world. But now, the realization that he may lose Evelyn and his unborn son was devastating.

A couple of guards rushed into the room and he turned to speak to them.

”What is it?” He said.

The guards looked at each other, unsure who should tell the news. Eventually one of them spoke up.

”We think we found a way to cure the Queen.”

The guards began talking about a magical flower, able to cure any illness. Caleb was not convinced that there was such a thing. But he was willing to try anything, no matter how ridiculous it sounded so he sent his troops to search everywhere for this magical flower.

For a couple of days there was no sign of this flower, and Caleb was about to call the search party off to focus on other cures. But as if it were a miracle the flower was found. Never had Caleb felt more hopeful about helping Evelyn than now.

The flower was quickly brought back and made into a soup for his wife to drink, and in just a couple of days she was healthy again. The Kingdom celebrated this miracle.

Their son was born a couple of months later and they decided that the name “Hunter” would be perfect. He looked almost identical to his father, the same golden hair and face structure. The biggest difference was that Hunter’s eyes were a beautiful shade of magenta. Caleb and Evelyn were the happiest parents in the world about their bundle of joy.

In celebration of Hunter’s birthday the Kingdom decided to light lanterns and set them off in the night. And for a while everything was perfect.

Until that night.

Caleb will never forget hearing his sons cries of anguish as he watched an unknown figure take him away.

They tried everything they could to find him, but this time there was no miracle to help them. So, the kingdom grieved as they set of lanterns in memory of their prince and in hope that Hunter would one day return to them.
