This version of Hold is discontinued as of 27 September, 2025. Eventually (once I’ve completed it in its entirety), it will go up again as a work inspired by this one, and will contain many of the same themes, writing, and plot points. But it needs major revision, and I can’t do that without being able to freely edit this somewhat rocky beginning and excise things at will.
That said, this version of the story will remain up as a discontinued iteration under the deadpm pseud for those who would like to return to it, although comments will remain enabled. (Thank you, to everyone who commented, for helping me make and supporting me in that decision.) New readers should be aware that its final version will be very different, and that no further updates are coming anytime soon. I’ll post a final update letting people know when the new version has been published, but expect it to be a few years at the very least. If you choose to read on—I hope you can enjoy this artifact of my early writing for what it is instead of what it lacks, and that the journey of these characters compels you half as much as it’s compelled me. 🖖
