"Dad?" Sam called in surprise as she caught sight of her father rounding the side of Jack's back deck where the four members of SG-1 were enjoying a rare day off.
"Jacob!" Jack called jovially.
The General zeroed in on SG-1's leader, "You son of a bitch!" Jack didn't think he'd ever seen the general turned Tok'ra so angry as he stormed towards him.
Jack barely resisted the urge to step back, "Excuse me?"
Jacob stormed towards him and threw a fist at his face.
"Woah!" Jack cried, ducking the blow and brandishing his bbq tongs at him. "Jacob what the hell?"
"Dad!" Sam sprung to her feet and positioned herself between the two military officers.
"You took advantage of my daughter and you dare ask me 'what'?" Jacob fumed, his face purple with rage.
Jack coughed and squirmed, "I uhh…?" he looked at Sam for help before darting his gaze back to Jacob as he squared himself for another swing.
"Uhh, Teal'c, you wanna go check…" Daniel muttered uncomfortably, getting to his feet.
"Indeed." Teal'c replied gravely, not waiting for Daniel to finish his question. The two moved quicker than Sam had ever seen them do before as they made their retreat inside the house.
"Dad, what..?" Sam was still trying to catch up.
"He's nearly old enough to be your father! Are you doing this to get at me?" Jacob rounded on his daughter now as Jack stepped out of range of the swinging General.
"Excuse me?" Sam barked incredulously, her hackles rising.
"You're throwing away your career!" Sam and Jack exchanged an incredulous look as the general built up steam.
'Jacob, maybe I could…' Selmak tried to calm her host.
'Don't you dare!' he shot back.
"Jacob, what are you talking about?" Jack cut in, his hands raised in surrender.
"As if you don't know! You've been carrying on with my little girl!"
"Dad!" Sam choked, she was sure she was bright red by now but her dad wasn't finished yet.
"You should be ashamed of yourself. She's more than ten years your junior!"
"Jacob, c'mon give me some credit." Jack mumbled uncomfortably, his cheeks reddening. "I would never let it get that far."
"Let it?" Sam challenged, her eyes flashed with annoyance.
Jack continued to squirm, caught between a rock and a hard place. "Uh… I mean we would never."
"Don't give me that crap! I know your type. You.." Jacob was not to be convinced.
"Dad!" Sam shouted across him, drawing his attention back to her. "The colonel and I are not sleeping with each other!"
"You're…" Jacob looked between the two before he visibly deflated as he processed what she said. "...not?"
Jack shook his head, holding out his palms innocently.
"No." Sam emphasised. "Where on earth have you got this idea?"
Jacob looked suitably embarrassed, "I… uh… Anise said."
"Ahh," Jack replied, thanking his lucky stars once again for his favourite Tok'ra.
"Said what exactly?" Sam challenged, her anger building as her father's receded.
"She uh… with the Zatarcs." Jacob mumbled, scratching his head.
'I told you.' his symbiote muttered to him.
"Ohh." Sam replied, a blush creeping up her neck. This was not a conversation she wanted to be having with her father.
"I just thought…" The older man trailed off sheepishly. "She wasn't exactly clear."
"And you thought this was the best way of dealing with it?" Sam fumed at her father.
"Jacob, it's fine." Sam shot Jack a stern look. "Well, it's… Carter and I have a strictly professional relationship."
"Well, good. I'm glad. I thought so, I mean you're both so… I didn't think you'd throw everything away for something so… trivial." Jacob tried to back pedal. Sam tried to stop herself glancing at Jack. Her dad put his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Kiddo and for trying to punch you, Jack."
"Water under the bridge." Jack quipped, turning back to the grill. "Beer? Or did you just stop by for the punch?"
Jacob nodded, accepting the bottle Jack handed him before sinking into a chair, "I should probably call George."
"Why?" Sam asked sternly. "What did you tell him?"
"Nothing, nothing!" Jacob was keen to avoid an argument. "I just, well, may have been a bit insistent he tell me exactly where you two were and then stormed out of the SGC."
Sam rolled her eyes, "For the love of…"
A ringing interrupted her. Jack rummaged in his pockets for his cell phone and flipped it open.
"General." he called jovially. "Have you changed your mind? I can put an extra burger on for you."
Sam exchanged a tense look with her father as she listened into the conversation.
"Yes, Sir, he's right here." Jack's eyes landed on Jacob. "No, Sir… Yes, Sir… No, all okay here, Sir… I'll let him know, Sir... Thank you, Sir."
Daniel and Teal’c emerged from the house as Jack snapped his phone shut. "Hammond sends his best." Jack told the group. "He said he'll talk to you when you get back." he directed at Jacob.
"Right."
"Everything okay?" Daniel asked tentatively, looking from Sam's annoyed expression to Jacob's sheepish one.
"All fine and dandy, Daniel. Burgers are done."
