Work Text:
Prince Yeonjun used to have his priorities in order and settled.
Key word, used.
It's been two months since he found a reason to welcome love and compromise in his life. Two months since he's been happier and giggly around the palace.
It happened like this;
It wasn't planned. Yeonjun really had no intentions on going out that eventful day but he was forced to at the end. So he took his boots and a loose outfit and walked towards the entrance of his castle. A storm was coming up. He recalls the gray sky and the wind messing his jet black hair. Other than that, it felt like an ordinary day.
He should've known better.
His ship wasn't even ten minutes inside the infinite sea when things started to happen. The waves were getting higher and higher, the storm was hitting fully towards them and rain was falling, unstoppable. Yeonjun, as the prince and captain of the ship, was screaming orders to his comrades, desperately trying to save themselves.
And then it happened.
A lightning hit some part of the ship, creating a fire immediately.
People began to fall to the ocean, prince Yeonjun included. He was devoured by the water and the moment his back hit the ocean his vision became blurry. Yeonjun was exhausted to even try to swim, he remembers himself giving up.
The feeling of feeling hopeless.
The moment he decided to let himself go, something grabbed his hand, pulling him towards the surface fast and smooth.
It was like a strong had was holding him and when they got to the surface oxygen filled his lungs. he coughed, vision still very blurry by the tears, tiredness and water.
He only felt being dragged to the beach, the beach near his castle.
Home.
When the thing that saved him left him on the sand he sighed closing his eyes. It was true that he was at the thing's mercy, but for a reason he felt safer than ever. Deciding to open his eyes, he found the reason why.
Soft and war brown eyes welcomed him.
Unblemished tanned skin, a few freckles and fluffy and wet brown hair. So insanely beautiful Yeonjun though he was dreaming. Inhumanly beautiful, because looking down he noticed something that made this person not human-alike.
He had a beautiful body, but where Yeonjun had two strong legs, the boy in front of him had a fish tail. A long and very pretty tail. It was a pretty shade of blue, almost aqua. It complimented his tanned skin and his eyes making him even more gorgeous.
"What-?" he coughed before even get the chance to speak to the creature. He was not fool, Yeonjun knew what kind of creature he was with.
A mermaid.
Beautiful and deadly, he has heard stories about them from his parents and comrades. It was very well known to avoid them at all costs. The creatures would lure you with their beautiful voices and appearance, and then eat you alive at the end. Yeonjun knew the stories and even then, he never felt danger looking at the boy.
The boy was frowning, concern adorning his pretty features. His hand were twitching with want, want of touching the prince and make sure that he wasn't hurt.
Yeonjun smiled a bit.
"Thank you" he said in a whisper. His throat was feeling rough by all the screaming he did earlier. But the boy seemed to hear him well.
"It's nothing" he said with (of course) the prettiest voice he ever heard. But it made sense, he was a mermaid.
"You saved me. Why did you saved me?" he asked nevertheless. The boy looked everywhere but his eyes and Yeonjun tried to sit a little. "I don't think you're supposed to do that"
"I'm not" the boy replied fast. But then sighed and looked down to his hands, playing with the wet sand.
"Yet you did" Yeonjun continued. "I don't think your world spares human lives like you just did."
"Maybe I want to be part of your world instead." the mermaid said looking now to Yeonjun eyes. His cheeks were blushing and his eyes were bright.
Ah.
That was it.
Yeonjun felt it immediately. The tug in his heart, the heat across his cheeks. The butterflies inside his stomach.
He felt it all.
Maybe it was silly. Maybe it was dangerous, he was being stupid. But he has always believed things happen for a reason. Fate does exist, and he was fated to meet Beomgyu.
So there he was, at the sea shore looking intensely to the ocean looking for some kind of movement.
The sun was already setting giving color to the scenery. Pink with orange mixing giving the best light that was hitting Yeonjun face gently.
And then he heard it. A loud splash followed by a giggle. He felt himself starting to smile at the sound even before looking at the responsible of it.
"Did you waited for too long?" he heard his voice. Still the prettiest he has ever heard.
"Just a little. But i can wait forever and I'll gladly do it." he answered finally looking at the boy in the sea.
The other giggled with bright red cheeks. cheeks that were soon covered in kisses.
"I missed you" Beomgyu said sighing. He was now sitting in a rock. His tail not longer there but replaced by a set of human legs. An ability all mermaids possessed.
He was wearing some clothes Yeonjun gave him the last time they saw each other and he looked rather small in them but Yeonjun found him adorable. His wet brown bangs adorned his bright eyes and Yeonjun thought once again how pretty the boy in his arms was.
"Well, we saw each other two weeks ago. It's the longest we've been apart." Yeonjun commented. Beomgyu nodded tucking his face in the crook of Yeonjun's neck. "I missed you too."
"I did the thing." Beomgyu said after a moment of silence. Yeonjun looked down to see him, smiling wide and happy. "My father wasn't very excited but he didn't complained. He said it's my life and that he was happy I'm still going to visit him once a month or so."
"So..." Yeonjun teased grabbing the boy's face in his hands softly.
"So, it's done. I'm yours to keep forever, my prince." Beomgyu said mirroring the wide smile Yeonjun was sporting. With a gasp he was lifted by the prince, spinning them around in the sand. Giggles filled Yeonjun's ears for a second and he sighed hugging his mermaid tightly. He was finally his.
Yeonjun proposed that on their first month on knowing each other. He felt immediately for the mermaid, it was almost embarrassing the power Beomgyu had on Yeonjun. Beomgyu told the prince it wasn't the first time he saw him on his ship. There were plenty of other times where the mermaid would come to the surface just to admire the tall, handsome man giving orders to his comrades. Always with a kind smile and bright eyes. The mermaid's hearts was weak, he fell first for the prince.
It was a coincidence he saved Yeonjun on that horrible day. He was swimming around but he had no intention on coming up to the surface anymore, knowing his one-sided love was starting to hurt a little. But then when he was about to turn back he saw the man of his dreams falling into the water, helpless and almost unconscious.
He didn't think twice, swimming as fast as his tail could, grabbing the man and lifting him up to save him.
He may be a creature known by killing and eating humans, but he also had a heart. A heart that belonged to Yeonjun.
After meeting each other late at night at the sea shore, the prince told him to accept his proposition, to become his. And even if Beomgyu was about to scream a yes, he knew he had to settle some business down back at home.
It wasn't easy, talking to his family. They weren't the usual mermaid family were the parents instructed their kids on how to kill humans, but they enjoyed the hunt once in a while. Beomgyu didn't like to be part of it and his family respected him always. Therefore, Beomgyu had never killed a human in his life.
His parents were very understanding when he told them how he met someone, how he feel in love and how badly he wanted to be with him. They weren't very happy about the human part, but they decided to give in because their son was practically glowing ever since he met the human prince.
So when Beomgyu had the the blessing he swam all across the distance that separate him form his lover. And now, snuggled between his arms surrounded by his cologne and the saltiness of the sea, Beomgyu feels at home.
"I'm yours, my prince." he whispered and felt Yeonjun tighten his grip on his waist. "I'm part of your world now."
"You always were. My world, I mean." Yeonjun corrected him and Beomgyu grinned widely. "Only you my pretty mermaid, just the two of us."
Maybe it was some kind of cliché, falling in love with the unknown. But neither of them could complain, they had each other for the rest of their lives and that's what mattered.
Having each other in their own little world.
