One Man Army

Summary:

The story that I want to tell you cannot be found in a book.

They say that the battle between good and evil was horrific. It would be a lie if we were to say that it wasn't. It has always been told by the eyes of good, but never from evil.

Not till now.

I was there. In the battle. I took neither sides, for the reason of me being mate of a hunter and having blood of a monster. But was it really a monster to begin with?

The battle was horrible. Death was everywhere. I couldn't help them. There was nothing in my power in which I could help them with. Nothing.

I watched as she stood in front of me, pleading not to leave. But I closed the portal in front of her very own eyes, and I lost her that same moment.

But, I was told I was never my own person. She was just an angel sent from above to save us. Was that the monster?

But now, time is ready to repeat itself again. The warrior; as they call her, will return. The war will start again. Conflicts will arise.

But fear none. If you believe in the warrior, then she will protect you. Have no fear. Remember when it's dark, there's always a light. You just have to find it.

Chapter 1: Antichrist

Chapter Text

She said, "How can I relate to somebody who doesn't speak?
I feel like I'm just treading water"

///

It had been about three years since Scarlett became a Hunter. The job pay is decent. It wasn’t some sort of over the hedge of pay; but it was more than what mere, normal people were making.

It was slightly even more than what people were making back then.

Before The Great War.

Scarlett had read somewhere in a book a long time ago, that a person working a job could be making around ten-fifty to fifteen an hour. Which apparently was considered minimum wage.

But what confused Scarlett even more, was that even though they were getting paid way, way, way under, they still stayed.

They always stay, don’t they?

Although, it would seem that some people like getting yelled at for doing their job correctly. Even without getting a single raise, they still stayed at the same shity job.

Perhaps they have fear of getting rejected by other people, or they simply love getting degraded and stepped on.

Scarlett wouldn’t really know.

However, she did know how it felt to be stepped on, degraded, and even unappreciated. She even knew how it felt to be constantly used; over, and over.

Wonderful, no?

She assumed that that was the reason she became a Hunter in the first place. Or perhaps it was the blood that roamed in her system that was passed down from generations.

Who the hell knew honestly.

However, by the end of the day, Scarlett enjoyed ripping off the heads, and tearing out the hearts of the monsters she hates dearly. In her opinion, it really did bring her joy, knowing that they couldn’t do a single thing in the world to save themselves.

Especially when their eyes go from a complete utter fear to an immediate emptiness. Lifeless.

Yes, you did read that correctly.

Werewolves. The monsters that Scarlett hated the most.

They weren’t these cute, adorable, beautiful animals that were portrayed in movies or even in books. What were they thinking back then?

Werewolves were monsters. No, correction. They are monsters.

They could take on two forms. One being the basic appearance of a typical wolf, but it was the size of a damn horse. Quite scary no?

Now, their second form made them to be as tall as ten to twelve feet; with them being on their hind legs.

Now that was an image that could strike fear into anyone that came across them. Bringing them: Hunters, to their knees.

It’s quite impossible to escape from one, especially if you’re being chased by a ten foot werewolf, in the middle of the woods.

They only have one objective in their mind and that is to kill you. Now, they’ll probably end up toying with you before they actually went in for the kill.

Or so Scarlett has heard.

But, it would truly suck to be killed by one of them. Hunters would rather jump off from a cliff than to become dinner to a mangy mutt.

Why do you ask?

Because in all honesty, who would want a mutt to roleplay doctor and patient.

Let’s put it this way. Would you rather die in a slow and painful death, with every second that passed, you would slowly bleed out? Or would you rather go out quickly by simply taking a swan dive off of a tall cliff?

Simple no?

But if you’re having trouble deciding. Just flip a coin. Either way, you’re going to die.

But let’s dig deeper into this.

Would all this be connected to something bigger? Was dying all part of the end goal? What even was the end goal?

To kill every last werewolf that walks on this world.

So in other worlds, it was considered fate no? Was it not?

Fate?

What even is it?

Did it have to do with Scarlett being born? Was there a specific reason for her to be brought into this world?

Who actually knew? Was there a higher power that played in this? Someone who decided who lived, who died and who yelled their story?

What did they call it?

Fate?

Destiny?

But did Scarlett regret being brought into this world?

At times, yes. Only because they were the last of the human race. The rest of them, the ones who were on this planet, saved themselves by going up into space.

Haven’t we seen this before?

We have no?

Just joking. Everyone actually died.

The werewolves attacked every single mankind on this planet, at the exact same time. Leaving very, very few survivors.

The only reason they survived was because of their special blood. Otherwise known as Black Blood.

However, some of the survivors were turned into Children of The Moon; as they call themselves. Others were brought in by Hunters. In which they slowly grew in numbers. But, without having Black Blood it was nearly impossible to do various magic that a sole Hunter projects.

For example, a basic hunter can detect a wolf if it’s in its close proximity. They can also track one down by simply using its footprints and scent that’s been left in the air and in the ground.

Then there’s the more average than average Hunter. Which is basically a middle ground Hunter. Now, they can use any ink that they have on their body as a weapon. This would be considered a tattoo back then, in the days of humanity.

Lastly, there’s the best Hunters. They can use both ink and one of the five elements; water, earth, air, fire and lighting.

It’s unheard of a Hunter being able to use all five elements. At the most, Hunters can use two. Depending on their willpower, strength and their ability. You can’t really pull out a second element out of thin air and not be prepared for the consequences.

However, there are stories of Hunters that have perished while trying to unlock a second or even possibly a third element. Some have even gone mad after unlocking a third element.

Unfortunately, they had to be put down. Just how when a dog has no chance of living anymore, it sadly gets put down.

They couldn’t have a mad man running around.

But Scarlett had also heard other stories involving Hunters. One which one day, a Hunter will be born, able to use ink and all five elements, and they will finally be able to put an end to all the werewolves once and for all.

But yet, stories were just stories.

Scarlett laid on her cot, waiting for the sun to rise and to scare the moon back into hiding.

Apparently there was a lone wolf running around this sector causing some trouble, and they happened to send one of their top Hunter.

Just joking.

Even though Scarlett was incredibly talented, she heavily refuses to acknowledge it.

She believed that she’s just “here” for their own uses .

But who exactly was they? And why in the world were they using Scarlett for their own uses?

However, since Scarlett was born under the year of 2109, there was a slim chance of her, or anyone really, being the Hero.

You know, the one and only legendary Hero. The one who has been born to save the world for all evil.

Who wouldn’t kill to be the Hero, right? Who wouldn’t kill everyone and everything that got in their way, solely to become the legendary Hero? Who wouldn’t want to be spoiled with riches, and be bathed in all the booze you can drink?

People would. They would.

But probably not Scarlett.

Not knowing the actual truth…

The sad and harsh truth, that most/people tend to leave out when retelling the story for the hundredth time.

The Hero dies at the end.

But don’t they alway?

Or even if you don’t manage to die at the very end, but somehow mess up and die at the very damn beginning.

Now that would be pretty pathetic…

But hold on now, you might be wondering why Scarlett is so set on not wanting to die when she goes off on a mission. We’ll probably because that’s what she was born for; killing wolves.

That’s what she wanted after all…

However, the Hero has to die anyway. Sacrificing themselves in order to close the portal that connects this world and the world in which the Moon Goddess lives.

Now that’s the scary part. Being the Hero.

Knowing that you’re just being raised to die. Like cattle.

That’s what didn’t sit right with Scarlett.

Sure she knows that she might die, but at least she knows that she can live with the mistakes she’s made. But, can the Hero?

No.

No mistake must be made. Everything must be perfect.

No mistake would be worth it if they’re the only one that could potentially save them. Scarlett and everyone else.

There isn’t another story written down saying how another Hero will come and take their spot if they happen to fall in battle.

It’s not like that story.

What was it called again?

Rising of the?

However, if the Hero ends up dying before closing the portal, everyone and everything will die.

Surely not all at once, but slowly over time.

The wolves would grow even stronger and even in number too. They’ll become more powerful and unstoppable, that the Hunters won’t be able to defend themselves anymore.

Supposedly this is where Scarlett’s normal life comes into play.

Jump.

It’ll all be over soon.

But Death didn’t scare Scarlett. On the contrary, she’d welcome it with open arms. It was like an old friend.

After all, she was ready to go.

Or was she.

A knock was heard on the door.

Scarlett contemplated whether to open it or not. But she did.

At the door stood a young man, around the same age of Scarlett or perhaps slightly older. He had a nasty scar running from his left side of his face, going through his left eye and finishing at the bottom of his top lip. His hair looked musty and way, way too oily. You could probably use some to cook some food for a whole week.

Now his clothes seemed slightly better, but not a whole lot. He wore a simple while long sleeve which was turning a slight yellowish. His shorts on the other hand, were quite better. Well, besides the small hole on the left side and the stain in the middle, as if he missed the restroom.

He also had his crossbow hanging off from his carrier.

“Ah! Lucas, what do I hold the great pleasure for?” Scarlett leaned into the doorframe. Words filled with sarcasm.

The man chuckled, “it seems that I’ve been assigned to accompany you on your next mission.”

“No way, they sent the only and only Lucas McClain to help me with a big bad wolf. Aw I am so honored,” Scarlett laughed. Did the higher ups really not believe in her? After everything she's done?

“Oh shut up,” Lucas ran his hand through his hair, “the only reason they sent me was to keep an eye on you. They don’t want a repeat of last time .”

“Last time? Last time! Are you serious? I only killed two wolves! How could that be bad?” Scarlett wasn’t wrong. She only killed two wolves.

“Scarlett, you killed the two wolves that were the main mission, along with two teenagers and three kids. Two of them being five and the other three years old for crying out loud!”

“Technically they were all wolves,” Scarlett replied.

“How do you know that? Did they tell you? Because there wasn’t a single trace of wolf from them and you know that!” Lucas hissed.

“So I might have killed some innocent people. What’s the big deal? It’s not like they weren’t next on the list of becoming wolves too,” Scarlett stated. It was true. There wasn’t any proof that the teenagers and kids were wolves. But that was way too much to look over. What if they did become wolves later on? That would mean five more monsters added up to their army. They couldn’t let that happen.

Lucas sighed, “I know what you’re thinking. Yes I know there wasn’t a way for sure to know if they were going to become monsters later on or not. But you could have done one thing, and that was to send a word to The Twelve saying you were bringing five kids with you on your return. Not killing them. But what did you do? You killed them anyway.”

“Oh fuck off Lucas!” Scarlett walked back into the small shed that she was staying in.

Lucas walked right after her, “don’t tell me what I did was wrong when I know in fact you’ve also killed innocent lives!” She told him.

“That was an order from The Twelve, from her . You know I couldn’t disobey. She would have killed me! And you know it,” he looked at her, “plus they were all dog worshipers, meaning they were all ready to become one. I had to do it. I had no other choice.”

“So what you’re saying is you’re her little bitch, aren’t you,” the fact that she had so much power is brutally scary.

Lucas had a blank expression on his face, “did you just call me her little bitch? Because excuse me, weren’t you crawling up to her when your both parents died? Because I remember that happening. And I also remember her using you for her own little experiments and then dumping you in nothing more than just your underwear in the middle of nowhere. Of course it's a miracle itself when you start climbing the ranks by yourself ain’t it?”

“Wow, I cannot believe that you’re going so low right now. But please do go on, tell me how I started to become stronger after she used me, and you went up to her own damn brother, just for you to become his toy,” Scarlett couldn’t believe it, was he really hitting her below the belt right now?

“Fuck you!” He slapped Scarlett.

Scarlett quickly pulled out one of the daggers that was inked onto her right outer thigh, “woah there Lucas, buddy. I believe you just crossed the line,” Scarlett walked up to him till his back hit the wall. She inched the dagger closer to his neck, “we can’t have you doing that now can we.”

Scarlett saw him try and move his hand. “No no, we all know your ink is just for show and tell. You can’t even use it, can you?” She ran her finger up his chest and grabbed his cheeks, making him look at her, “aw is the wittle Lucas scared because he can’t do anything to defend himself. Because we all know that wittle Lucas is just a basic hunter. One who can’t use ink or any elements, ain’t that right?”

It was true.

Lucas couldn’t use ink or any elements. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t kill a wolf. The man was the best of his rank using basic weapons. And boy, he sure did know how to use them.

“Just because I can’t use any ink or elements, doesn’t mean I can’t put up a good fight. What do you say?” The man was challenging Scarlett to a fight.

“You do know that I am on the very top of the ink and elemental users right? Don’t wanna hurt little old Lucas now.” Scarlett chuckled.

Lucas stared her down. “I know, but I am also at the top of the basic hunters.”

Scarlett hummed, “oh I know sweetheart, I know.” She ran her dagger from his chest down to the bottom of his shirt. “I just don't wanna hurt his little toy. Or have him come after me, after you were the one who started this.”

“You know damn well he wouldn’t care a damn about me. He only cares about money, power and sex.”

“Is that why he keeps you by his side like a little bitch? Because he only needs you for sex, nothing more nothing less.” Just how she used Scarlett.

“Fuck you!” He pushed Scarlett off, “you know nothing about me!” He pulled out his crossbow and pointed it at her.

“Wow you actually think you can hurt me, possibly kill me? With that?” Scarlett chuckled, “wow, you really are so fucking pathetic.”

He raised his weapon higher up till it was staring right between her own two eyes, “possibly, but who knows. I could kill you. Or,” he moved the crossbow toward her left thigh. “I could really hurt you.”

“Fine, okay.” Scarlett sighed, she lowered her dagger back down to my thigh, making it go back into her skin. “I don’t want to hurt you, so let’s just talk it out?”

“Fuck no. You riled me up and now you’re going to pay up,” he spit, “so either get on your knees and suck me, or I’ll take you right here right now.”

Scarlett gagged. He couldn’t be serious. “I rather go back to her, than suck your tiny ass thing you call a d-”

Scarlett felt a cold ring collide right onto her left check. The punch knocked her to the side. She tried to grab hold onto the small cot that was next to her, but a second punch to her abdomen made her hunch over. Coughing, Scarlett held her stomach as an elbow hit her shoulder pushing her down onto her knees.

Scarlett felt a hand grab onto her hair and bring her head closer to something that exactly smelled like her shit from last night. She gagged and had to hold in whatever food she had left from last night.

But everything had happened so quickly. One second he pushed his dick onto Scarlett’s mouth and the next second she was biting down so hard that blood was rushing into her mouth.

In that split second he let go of her hair. Scarlett reached up to her neck, pulling out a small two inch blade. In which she used to slice his dick.

His yelling was echoing throughout the small shed. Scarlett stood up a little wobbly on her legs. She looked at Lucas who was grabbing onto his now bloody mess. She grabbed the penis that was limp, hanging in her mouth.

“Maybe I should save this so I can send it as a lovely gift to him. What do you think?” She looked at it. It was probably about two and a half inches. Why would he ever want him for if this was all that he could offer. Perhaps he was better at other things.

Lucas was still yelling, Scarlett couldn’t understand a single word that was coming out from his mouth. Lucas was now kneeling down; still holding the area in which his penis was. “F- fuck yo- you.”

“Oh no honey, I’m not really interested in you. Especially after pulling that little stunt you did, and even more after well you know, not having a dick anymore,” Scarlett tossed it onto the floor stepping on it. It splattered all over the floor, “looks like you won’t be having fun anytime soon am I right?”

“Wa- wait till h- h- he finds out!” He spat at Scarlett.

Scarlett chucked, “oh no sweetheart, I’m going to make sure he never does,” she walked up to him squatting in front of him. “Michael is going to stop by later on, and when he sees you, he’s going to make sure it looks like one of the wolves found us, and well, you know the rest don’t you sweetheart.”

Lucas looked at me with wide eyes, “you w- w- would- wouldn’t.”

“Oh believe me, I will.” Scarlett stood up and walked out of the shed. His screams still echoed throughout as she kept walking away.

Scarlett walked over to where Alpha was tied up, “hello and good morning Alpha.” The horse just neigh, “are we ready to set out on this glorious day?”

She strapped his saddle on along with her bag and other materials. She looked over her shoulder when she heard trotting coming behind her. It was Angel; Lucas’ horse.

“Hello there, handsome. I’m sorry but Lucas won’t be coming with us.” Scarlett reached to grab his reins. “I’m sure you’ll be worth a lot, but I don’t think I’ll be able to sell you. So I’m letting you go.” She took off his saddle and his bridle. Scarlett also took Lucas’s food and water, even the little amount of herbs that he had stored

Angel looked at her. “I’m sorry boy, but your master won’t ever be coming back. So go,” he just stared at her. “Go!” Scarlett slapped him on his back. And with that he took off.

“I hope you forgive me Angel, but Lucas was never good enough for you. You deserved better.” Angel was already by the edge of the woods. He was finally free.

Alpha came up behind her. “Don’t worry, I’m not leaving you anytime soon boy.” Scarlett hugged him. “Come, we must leave before the sun goes up any higher.”

Scarlett hopped on Alpha and started making their way toward Old Hollow.

In all honesty, she didn’t even give two shits about what could happen to Lucas. She lost all hope in him.

Lucas let money and sex get to his head, and now look at him. Nothing.

Scarlett begins to wonder, how the hell did she even get into this position that she was in right now. How did she?

Suppose, that’s what happens when you end up living in the wild for two years.

But she regretted nothing.

Today will be the day that Lucas McClain died.

If Scarlett was also going to get rid of the corrupt system that they had, it was a great start with Lucas. Now, on to everyone else.

Sometimes she’d wonder to herself, what others would think of her. They probably thought that she was a mad woman just itching to kill every wolf she’d lay paths with.

But honestly, who gave a fuck.

Everyone should live their lives however they want. But start abusing power, and you had to go. Couldn’t have that now, could we?

That's why everyone at the top top, has to go. they’ve been holding way too much power. Who knows how many of his followers still exist.

They didn't need a second ending.

But, Scarlett knew for sure that wouldn’t be able to escape their palms. After all, they were just pawns on a giant chessboard waiting to be moved or killed. There was no way out.

Unless everyone would just drop dead. Right here right now.

As much as Scarlett contemplated suicide at dark times. Now wouldn’t really bring honor to her name.

Scarlett would rather be killed in battle, but sometimes she wondered if there was an easy way out. And maybe there was.

But Scarlett had to bring justice to her parents' death. She must do it. She must kill that disgusting mutt.

She just hoped that Lady Luck was on her side.
