Chapter Text
This was not a wedding. It couldn’t be a wedding, because if it was a wedding, that meant that she and Rhaenyra weren’t already married and if they weren’t married, then their son was a bastard. And that was definitely not the case. Indeed, King Viserys had made it clear that anyone caught questioning the legitimacy of his daughter’s marriage and hence his grandson would lose a tongue for their effrontery.
No, today was a celebration of an existing union, an opportunity for the royal couple to be feted by the nobility of the Seven Kingdoms. More importantly, they would receive a blessing from the High Septon, confirming for them specifically what the Father of the Faithful had already declared more generally: that a marriage between a female alpha and a female beta or omega would be allowed, so long as at least one of the women was the blood of the dragon.
Still, given all the fuss that was being made over her, Alicent could be forgiven for thinking she was about to get married a second time. Indeed, the preparations were even more elaborate than those for her aborted wedding to the king. Those celebrations had been overshadowed by the death of Queen Aemma while today, the recent birth of a royal heir made it an even more joyous affair than normal.
A small army of maids and tailors now swarmed over her, putting the finishing touches on her gown. Since she was already a member of House Targaryen, the dress reflected that, red primarily, with golden filagree and a necklace of rubies around her throat.
Of course, some things didn’t change. Once more, as she was being tugged and prodded, the doors to her chambers opened to reveal Princess Rhaenyra. This time she had better reason to be there. They had moved into these quarters together a few months earlier, giving them more space for their growing family, even if, right now, they felt rather full.
“You look absolutely stunning,” her wife declared, giving her a quick peck on the lips.
“And you look under-dressed.” Rhaenyra was wearing a simple pair of breaches and a black shirt and though the omega thought her wife looked rather dashing, they weren’t nearly appropriate for a ceremony of this importance.
“Oh, don’t worry about it. My outfit’s not as complicated as yours. Besides, I received a summons from the princess and I didn’t want to make her cross by being late.”
Alicent shook her head at the teasing, but Rhaenyra was right; the omega had sent for her wife. “Give us the room," she said, and the servants retreated elsewhere into their chambers.
“You remember what happened the last time we dismissed the tailors…”
Her lips pursed as a rush of warmth ran down her spine and toward her core. “I shall never forget it. Actually, what I have to tell you is in rather the same vein. I think my heat is going to start soon.”
Rhaenyra tilted her head, clearly intrigued. Bad timing and a quick pregnancy meant that they hadn't yet been able to share this experience and both of them had been looking forward to it for some time. “Are you sure? You haven’t had one since the baby.”
“I know, but last week the Grand Maester told me it shouldn’t be long and I started feeling some early signs this morning.”
“What are those anyway?”
“For a couple of days, I’m a little warmer than usual. It’s not painful, at least not at first, but my thoughts also tend to drift onto… well, you know what.”
Rhaenyra laughed. “I certainly do. How close is it, then?”
“It should still be a day, maybe two. I’m not sure I would even have recognized the signs if I hadn’t been through it before.” Alicent shivered as she remembered how horrible her first heats had been, locked in her rooms, with nothing but her then-shameful fantasies of Rhaenyra to keep her company.
Her wife sensed her distress, taking her hand and rubbing the knuckles affectionately. “You won’t be alone this time. I promise.”
“I know.” Even more than usual, Rhaenyra smelled good, her inner omega responding to the security that her mate’s words promised. “We do need to make some preparations, though. Jace will have to stay with his nurses for a few days, and we’re going to need a lot of food. I remember how much I ate when it was just me and I plan to give you quite a workout.”
She could see Rhaenyra swallow hard at the prospect and when Alicent snuck a glance down at her breaches, there was a swell visible. “Fuck, Alicent,” the alpha growled. “Do you know what you did to me the last time you were in heat? I seriously considered coming back with Syrax and lighting the guards on fire when they wouldn’t let me in.”
A little whimper slipped from Alicent’s throat. Her own memories of that heat were fuzzy, but she did have a very clear recollection of Rhaenyra crying out for her, along with her own desperate attempts to force the door open to reach the alpha. Desire began pooling between her legs, but she fought it, taking a deep breath and stepping away from her mate.
“Stop that, Rhae. You don’t want to trigger me too soon.”
Rhaenyra smirked. “Don’t I?”
“Much of the nobility of the realm is here to see this ceremony.”
“And I don’t want them to think I’m a sex-addled female alpha who’d rather claim my mate than do my duty.” She raised an eyebrow suggestively. “Even if I would.”
She leaned over and gave her wife a soft kiss on the cheek. “Don’t worry, my love, you’ll have me soon enough. But for now, go get dressed.”
****
Alicent had never been especially comfortable being the center of attention, which was why she was surprised that some primal part of her was preening as she strode into King’s Landing’s great sept, the eyes of the throngs of guests drawn to her entrance. She wasn’t sure how many of them truly believed in her marriage, no matter the change in the Faith’s doctrines. There were plenty of other reasons to have come after all: to curry favor with the king and his heir, to enjoy the grand feasts that would follow the ceremony, or just to see something no one in the Seven Kingdoms had before. Whatever their reasons, though, those assembled were watching her and perhaps some vain side of the omega appreciated the mixture of desire and admiration she could see in many of their eyes.
More than that, though her reaction was about Rhaenyra. This alpha, the Princess of Dragonstone, the Realm’s Delight, was hers. Rhaenyra had chosen her, she had chosen Rhaenyra, and today they would affirm that truth in the sight of Gods, men, and half of the Seven Kingdom’s nobility. It was a thought arousing enough to have her pumping out scent as she walked, letting all who caught it know who her wife belonged to.
As she made her way toward the altar, her good-father came to greet her, trailed by two knights of the Kingsguard as well as the nurse attending to her son. At six months old, Jacaerys was already crawling and though he didn’t yet speak, he did gurgle happily when she rubbed his head, which was covered by an auburn mop. She’d worried her wife would be disappointed that their son didn’t have the customary pale hair of House Targaryen, but Rhaenyra seemed happy to have it match Alicent’s own.
Before she could get overly distracted by Jacaerys, she turned and bowed to the king. “Your Grace. Is everything ready?”
He smiled at her almost as broadly as Jacaerys had. Whatever resentment he’d felt over her elopement was long past, replaced with pleasure at his daughter’s happiness as well as the urge to dote upon his grandson. “It is,” he declared. “Most of the guests have already arrived, there’s a splendid feast waiting for us back at the Red Keep, and your little prince is a delight.”
Alicent laughed at that. “He hardly gives me any problems, your Grace. A sound sleeper, thank the Gods.”
“So unlike his sire. I remember Rhaenyra used to keep her mother and I up half the night when she wasn’t staying in the nursery. But no matter how much fuss she caused, Aemma always said she was a blessing.” All at once, his expression turned sad, regret overwhelming the fond memories. “I only wish that she could be here with us today.”
“I know she would’ve been a wonderful grandmother,” Alicent said. As Rhaenyra’s best friend, the queen had always been kind to her, and as a new mother herself, it would’ve been wonderful to have the benefit of her experience.
“Still,” Viserys said, doing his best to brighten up. “It’s not a day for grief. We’re here to celebrate the two of you.”
“We are,” she agreed. Whatever those gathered thought of this ceremony, it was important. By attending, the nobles present tacitly signaled their approval of the marriage, something that would make it harder for them to contest Rhaenyra’s claims to the throne, or those of her son, when the time came. For Alicent, too, it was meaningful. Out of love and desperation she’d agreed to wed Rhaenyra in the Valyrian manner but it comforted her that now she would have the Faith’s blessing as well, even if it had been bought for a heap of the Crown's gold.
Leaving the king behind, Alicent made her way to the heart of the sept. Rhaenyra was already waiting for her by the altar and at the first glimpse of her wife, Alicent gasped. If the alpha had looked dashing earlier, she was positively stunning now. Her clothes superficially resembled those a man might wear but cut to fit a woman’s body, breaches tight enough to show off her slim but strong legs, jacket emphasizing her small, perfect breasts, both in her house’s red and black with dragons done in gold trim along the cuffs and collar. Her hair was tied back in a long braid and at her side, she wore the sword she had been training with lately; all in all, it was enough to make Alicent’s knees weak.
She joined her wife in front of the altar, unable to keep from shooting her a smoldering look. Even before Rhaenyra became her mate, the lascivious thoughts that accompanied the beginning of her heat tended to feature the princess but now she starred in all of them. As much as this ceremony meant, Alicent found it hard to think about anything but what they would do once they were finally alone.
Regrettably, that time hadn’t arrived yet so and she stood patiently beside her wife, listening as the High Septon began a long dissertation about both the virtues of love and the special role the Targaryens had been given by the Gods. It was a strange oration, at least to Alicent. This new doctrine had come not from a divine revelation but was dreamed up by Rhaenyra in response to something she herself had said while flying home on dragon-back.
And yet what the High Septon said was no more than Alicent had come to believe during her time in Dorne, that the pairing of an alpha and omega was no more sinful for both of them being women. Indeed, if she had her way, this doctrine would’ve applied to the whole realm, not just the House of the Dragon, but for now, she would live with this victory.
What was harder to live with was the heat that was fast overtaking her. Alicent had thought she had another day or two before it began in earnest, but with Rhaenyra looking that enticing, she could hardly be surprised it had come earlier. Still, understanding what was happening didn’t make it any easier to bear. With every passing minute, the sept felt warmer, her clothes weighing down on her like the heaviest furs instead of the delicate fabrics they were made of.
And Rhaenyra… All her eyes could do was run along the tailored curves of her wife’s outfit, conjuring up images of the bare skin beneath. Her omega was no longer content with scenting her mate. She wanted to pull her into her arms, tear off those fine clothes, and have Rhaenyra claim her, right there in front of everyone.
It was an absurd thought, one that would’ve seemed obscene were she in her right mind. Rhaenyra’s father was there, as well as Alicent’s uncle and brother, and countless other people she would never want to see her naked. And yet, in her present state, all she wanted was to tell them, to tell the world that had tried to keep her and Rhaenyra apart, that they belonged to one another.
By the time the High Septon reached the blessing, Alicent’s fists were curled into balls, nails digging into her palms to keep her lustful thoughts from overwhelming her. “And now let us give thanks to the Seven. Father, Mother, Warrior, Smith, Maiden, Crone, Stranger,” he intoned, while Alicent was giving thanks for the way that her wife's cock felt inside her, stretching her cunt until she felt so deliciously full.
“For bringing these two souls together…” For the night before my canceled wedding, when she first claimed me.
“For helping them to find happiness in one another…” Happiness, when she’s inside of me.
“For joining them in marriage…” For the night we spent consummating that marriage.
“We give thanks.”
Alicent only gave thanks that he was done and that the ceremony now called for her and Rhaenyra to kiss. She fell into her wife’s arms with a hunger that was entirely inappropriate to the moment, pressing her tongue inside the alpha’s mouth and moaning softly.
Her scent had clearly been having an effect on Rhaenyra as well. All through the ceremony, her scent had been sharpening and now Alicent could feel her hard shaft fully formed beneath her breaches, pressing against her thigh. It was all she could do not to palm it right then and there, just to have the warmth of it against her skin.
Even after Rhaenyra finally coaxed them apart, Alicent kept starring at her, unspoken need quivering in her eyes. Her mate understood, because a burst of her scent, strong and protective, washed over the omega. “Just walk out with me, my love,” she whispered. “I’ve got you.”
Looping their arms together, Rhaenyra led them out of the sept. Everyone was cheering and smiling but it was all Alicent could do to wave back. Speech was too much to risk; she didn’t trust what sounds might come out of her mouth if she opened it. Indeed, it was only Rhaenyra’s strength, her arm wrapped around Alicent’s own, along with the desire not to embarrass her alpha with her weakness, that kept her going.
At last they staggered outside. When a cool autumn breeze hit her skin, it brought Alicent a hint of relief but no more. There was only one thing that could fix what was wrong with her and it wasn’t fresh air.
Their wheelhouse waited at the bottom of the stairs and by the time they reached it, Alicent’s face was contorted with the force of her need. Her limbs felt like jelly and Rhaenyra had to help her up and inside, where she collapsed at once into the cushioned seats. A moment later the alpha joined her there and the footmen closed the door behind them, leaving her mercifully alone with her wife as the wheelhouse began its journey back to the Red Keep.
“It hurts,” she whimpered, curling up next to Rhaenyra in a desperate search for contact.
The alpha stroked her cheek, the tips of her fingers seeming to burn on the bare skin. “You told me you had a day or two.”
She began kissing her way up Rhaenyra’s neck, unable to control her lust any longer. “Your fault, Rhaenyra. Looking so good…”
Her mate laughed at that but there was a hunger behind the sound. “Gods, you smell amazing.”
Alicent spread her legs, pulling up her skirts to reveal as much bare skin as she could. “Then take me. Please.”
Rhaenyra swallowed hard. It was obvious she wanted this, if not quite as desperately as Alicent, but she hesitated. “Ali, if we start, I don't think we’ll be able to stop for a long time. All our guests…”
Some part of her knew Rhaenyra was right but she couldn't make herself care. “You promised me I wouldn't have to do this alone again,” she pleaded.
“Hey.” Rhaenyra wrapped an arm around her chest, squeezing her tightly. “You're not alone. Never."
A wave of alpha scent accompanied those words and Alicent felt her heartbeat slow, at least a little bit. She trusted Rhaenyra, more than anyone in the world, and she would again this time. Her wife pulled her into her arms, laying Alicent’s head on her breasts as she finished lifting up her dress. Beneath were a pair of lacy red small clothes, worn in the anticipation of a private celebration that night, but already soaked through with her arousal.
Rhaenyra tugged them down, exposing the omega's aching sex. “Oh, my poor, sweet wife,” she murmured, kissing the side of Alicent’s neck. “You must’ve been so miserable up there in the sept. Let me take the edge off. Like you did when I had my first rut.”
“Oh,” Alicent murmured before Rhaenyra’s fingers cut off any other response. They slid up her inner thighs and across the silk of her folds before searching out the hard point above them. Trapping it between her thumb and forefinger, the alpha coaxed out her pleasure, milking the swollen bud skillfully. Not that it was difficult. Needy as she was, it took no time at all before she was squirming beneath Rhaenyra’s touch, whimpering and begging for more.
“Good girl,” Rhaenyra purred, but though her voice was soothing, Alicent could tell she wasn’t relaxed. Her scent was heavy and her member was pressing against the omega’s rear, throbbing forcefully with every movement the wheelhouse made. It was enough to make Alicent's cunt clench, painfully conscious of being empty. As good as Rhaenyra’s fingers felt, the omega wanted to be filled, to feel her mate's length stretching her, her seed spilling inside.
But even if they weren’t what she truly craved, those slim digits were still enough to swiftly push Alicent over the edge. It didn’t take many tight circles before she was muffling her cries of pleasure against her mate’s shoulder, her whole body quivering as the first climax of her heat ripped through her veins.
“There you go, sweetheart,” Rhaenyra whispered, stroking her through the aftershocks. “Doesn’t that feel better?”
She wanted to say ‘yes,’ that like Rhaenyra in Dorne, this quick burst of pleasure would be enough to get her through at least some of the upcoming festivities. But she couldn’t. Not when she was still sweating profusely, her clothes as oppressive against her body as chains, when all she wanted to do was pull down Rhaenyra’s breeches and jump on her cock.
“I’m sorry,” she whimpered, tears forming in her eyes. “It’s not enough, Rhaenyra. Please, it’s not enough.”
