Work Text:

There it was! There it was again. Kiri narrowed her eyes as she watched Neteyam and Ao’nung laugh and hug as Rotxo continued his miming.
Neteyam swayed with Ao’nung who sat a step up the bleachers behind him. They swayed slowly with Ao’nung resting his chin on Neteyam’s head and his arms around his shoulders.
It was late afternoon and the sunlight was mellow and warm as the Sullys and their friends hung out on the bleachers. Tsireya and Lo’ak were a little ways below them talking and giggling like they always did every chance they got. Kiri rolled her eyes at that, they were rapidly becoming that weird couple in highschool who went everywhere together although they were both now in Uni.

Kiri would rather die than become them and was content with the low-key situation she and Rotxo had.
Neteyam and Ao’nung however were weird. They shouldn’t have worked but they did. Ao’nung was bossy and cocky and always excitedly pulling pranks and getting into trouble, so unlike her big brother. Her calmer than a breeze brother Neteyam.

Kiri watched as Ao’nung snuck a quick peck to Neteyam’s temple as they sat together listening to Rotxo. Neteyam rolled his eyes and tugged a stray curl from Ao’nung’s otherwise neatly bunned hair.
“Kiri, we’re thinking of going to the beach tonight. Let’s go?” Rotxo was suddenly all up in her face. His smile radiant in the light as he watched her with his big adoring eyes. Kiri could never get enough of his loving gaze. She found herself smiling.
“Yeah, sure.”
“Okay, I’ll ask those two idiots as well and then we can leave. We’re still going to that store after this right?”
“Mmhm.” She nodded and watched as Rotxo smiled again before moving down to Tsireya and Lo’ak.
Kiri turned back to watch the other two and blushed a little as she caught them in an intimate stare down.
Neteyam and Ao’nung’s eyes were locked as Neteyam slowly and painstakingly kissed Ao’nung’s hand. He watched Ao’nung with deep hooded eyes filled with unbridled want and amusement. Ao’nung’s cheeks were flushed and so were his ears but he refused to look away even when Neteyam smirked and nipped at his knuckles tauntingly.
It wasn’t long before Ao’nung relented and looked away shyly shifting his eyes to Kiri who was still gawking at them.
His eyes widen and he cleared his throat before leaning back on the bleachers and looking away in embarrassment. Neteyam frowned at the rapid removal of his lover’s hands from around him and turned to Kiri. He scowled at her for supposedly interrupting whatever that was and pinned a pointed glare at her. Kiri had never seen her brother so angry? Irked? She rolled her eye and looked away with feigned nonchalance as Neteyam continued to scowl at her while reaching back for Ao’nung’s hands again.
Kiri’s mind was befuddled. Because there it was again.
That unfathomable possessiveness of her calm, giving and self sacrificing brother Neteyam! It was like he only wanted Ao’nung for himself. It was greedy and overwhelming so. It had come to her notice only recently but now that she was aware of it, it was suffocating and always just there. She was actually really surprised she had not noticed their very obvious behaviour earlier. She understood they were dating and all but never in her short 21 years of life did she think that she would see Neteyam so possessive and protective of someone. Yes, he was overly protective with them as well but with Ao’nung, it was tens if not thousands of degrees more fiery.

“Stop that, man.” Kiri heard Ao’nung lightly slap her brother’s shoulder. “You’re going to get wrinkles with how much you’ve been glaring these days. Your pretty face is gonna get all ugly.”

“Maybe we can glare at people together. Keep them from staring too much.” Neteyam laughed but Kiri heard the underlying reprimand directed at her.

She huffed and turned to Neteyam to roll her eyes at him.

“Let’s go.” Rotxo interrupted just as Neteyam gave her an unamused stare.

It really really confused her. He was the same as before but something had changed. Neteyam had changed to something darker, more forceful with what he wanted and needed from Ao’nung. It was weird. Not bad but very weird for her at least.

Kiri was still thinking about it as the group relaxed around on the beach. It was filled with people from the University as always. It was the weekend so everyone was buzzing with excited energy. Some were dancing and others were talking and laughing.

“Earth to Kiri. Hello?” A snap of fingers and her brother’s voice broke her thoughts.

“Yes, yes. I’m here.” She smiled at Neteyam who handed her a bottle of beer and relaxed next to her in the sand.

“What? Your beloved A’onung isn’t here with you?” Kiri teased as she clinked her bottle against his.

“Salud.” Neteyam said as he took a swig of it and smiled fondly. “I’m not his keeper, Just his lover, Kiri.”

“With the way you act, one might think otherwise.” She retorted half heartedly.

“Hmm?” Neteyam gave her a questioning look.

“You do know Ao’nung is the captain of the swim team and a literal Chad, right? Yet when he’s with you, you fuss over him like he’s a damn baby chick. Heck you were one second away from growling at me today for even looking at the two of you. You treat him like a princess and you know it.” Kiri laughed: “I mean I know you’re protective but possessive? Neteyam, is that really you?”

“I’m not possessive, Kiri. And a princess? Really? I, treat Ao’nung like a princess? come on Kiri, you’re not funny.” Neteyam laughed happily. “I think it’s quite the opposite actually.”

“Ao’nung still growling at anyone who dares look at you wrong even from the side?” Kiri asked.

“Yup. He really has to stop letting his emotions get the better of him. It’s cute and all but inconvenient at times. Thankfully he’s pretty good with my friends at least.”Neteyam chuckled as he fiddled with his braids.

“We wouldn’t be in half the trouble we get in if it wasn’t for him and Lo’ak really.” Kiri said just as a loud commotion caught both their attention.
They looked a little ahead and watched as Ao’nung chugged an entire jug of alcohol. It seemed the swim team along with Spider, Rotxo and Lo’ak were cheering him on to finish whatever ‘college alpha male’ tradition it was this time. Tsireya watched from the side with concern behind her troubled smile as Lo’ak held her hand. Kiri pitied her as Lo’ak threw an arm around her and shouted at her brother to get drunk. Enough to See both Buddha and Jesus drunk.
The group cheered and whooped as Ao’nung gulped down the last drop and shook his head.
Kiri turned to tease Neteyam about his boyfriend but Neteyam was glaring. Again.
She knew it was directed at Ao’nung and whoever got too close to him before she even turned. Sure enough, that cocky idiot was laughing as a teammate pulled him into a hug. One that seemed a little bit too close and touchy as Ao’nung continued to laugh dazedly. Neteyam put down his bottle in the sand and watched contemplatively.

Kiri saw it in his gilded eyes that reflected the firelight of their small bonfire.
His face was blank but his eyes. Oh, his eyes were dangerously hooded and calculating; he watched silently as Ao’nung and his teammate cheered. Well, Ao’nung was lost in his alcohol infused joy but the teammate- Foolish child that he was, had slid his hand down and wrapped it around Ao’nung’s waist. Neteyam narrowed his eyes as he watched that and Kiri could not breathe as she stared at her brother blatantly.
Neteyam didn’t care as he was slightly preoccupied with trying to murder Ao’nung’s teammate and even the boy with his eyes.
Just as she was sure Neteyam was going to actually stand up and walk up to the boys, his eyes relaxed and much like a passing storm, his face lifted in a satisfied smile.

Kiri looked back to see Ao’nung push his teammate off and pinned him with a scathing glare. He turned away completely from the other ignoring him and resumed laughing and talking with his sister and Lo’ak; who happily fist bumped and clapped his back.

“You good out here?” Neteyam said as he stood up and dusted himself.

“Huh?” Kiri turned up to him but he was still staring off at Ao’nung.

“I’m gonna go. You’re good out here, right? Should I send Rotxo?”

“Nah. I’m good. Thanks though.”

“Take it easy, Kiri. I’ll see you later okay.”

“Uh, yeah.” Kiri found herself saying as she stared at her brother who walked towards the others quickly.

Oh Eywa! Why am I here to witness this! What form of sick torture is this???!!

Kiri pushed herself down into the backseat of Rotxo’s car as she heard the scuffle outside. The beach had gotten a little too cold for her so she had snuck back up to Rotxo’s car to relax. She had contemplated asking Rotxo to come up with her for some quality time but he looked too engrossed in whatever it was Lo’ak was spouting so instead she had just taken his keys from his bag and trudged up alone. A decision she regretted at that very moment as she tried to merge with the thin dark blanket and leather backseat. Praying that the darkness and her silence would conceal her from Neteyam and Ao’nung who were talking beside her, leaning against Ao’nung’s Jeep.
Kiri knew they weren’t just talking as she involuntarily listened in on their bickering.

“I didn’t even drink that much, Teyam!” Ao’nung explained as he raised his hands.

“Two jugs would be considered overkill by most, Nung.” Neteyam laughed as he turned towards his boyfriend.
He leaned forward and placed his hands on the cool metal of the car‘s hood; effectively trapping Ao’nung between them.

Ao’nung tilted his head to the side and smiled at him tenderly. A look Kiri had only seen directed at Tsireya and only when Ao’nung thought no one was looking. He also leaned back on the car and bit his lips coyly. Coy; a word Kiri never knew she needed to describe the arrogant boy.

Ao’nung was about two or three inches taller than Neteyam but with him leaning back, it brought their faces to the same level. Neteyam slid a hand up Ao’nung’s nape and pulled him in for a soft kiss.

Kiri knew she should not have been watching but in her defence, they were right there. Right in front of her.

Just as she thought it was over, Neteyam’s hand grabbed Ao’nung’s jaw and pushed him back a bit too roughly. Ao’nung chased his lips with a hiss but Neteyam’s grip on his jaw seem to tighten keeping him back.

“Teyam.” Ao’nung whispered as he looked at Neteyam through hooded eyes.

“You seemed to be awfully close with your mates, Ao’nung. I thought you had forgotten all about me, your lover.” Neteyam said softly; an annoyed smirk gracing his lips.

“ It would be kind of weird if the captain wasn’t close to his team, no?” Ao’nung retorted with a smirk of his own and a cocked eyebrow.

“Close enough to grab you whichever way they like?” Neteyam asked lowly as he pulled Ao’nung’s face and pecked him on the lips. He moved quickly just as Ao’nung leaned into it. He didn’t want to give the other boy the satisfaction. Not yet.
Ao’nung drew closer to Neteyam but he pushed him back against the car with a careful hand on his chest.

“Right in front of me too. And you just let it happen?”

“What are you talking about?” Ao’nung was confused as his breathing hitched. Neteyam had wedged a leg between his and was slowly moving closer to him; his firm thigh almost grazing Ao’nung’s centre.

“What is his name? The one who dared to even think he had a chance with you?” Neteyam asked softly caressing Ao’nung’s chin with his thumb.
Kiri knew from experience that Neteyam’s angry voice was serenely calm and icy. And right then, it was glacial.

“No one. No one of consequence.” Ao’nung said as he finally pushed forward and draped his arms around Neteyam, kissing his neck as his hand worked through the coiled muscles on Neteyam’s neck and shoulders.

“But he might be if you let him.” Neteyam growled as he planted his hands on the small of Ao’nung’s back and tugged him tightly.

“No, he’s not. Never will be. Are you jealous, ma Teyam?” Ao’nung laughed softly, clearly missing the undercurrent of patient anger in Neteyam’s voice.

Kiri pulled the blanket closer to her face as she watched the idiot continuously test her brother’s patience.
Neteyam was like their mother. Not only physically but also in their personality. He was calm and respectfully but once his rare anger took charge he was ruthless. His anger was silent and methodical. Almost callous in a way. Dark.
Kiri had only witnessed his true anger a couple of times throughout her life and each time, it had terrified not only her but the rest of her family as well; except their mother. But that was because she knew that anger. He had gotten it from her Afterall.

“Answer me, Ao’nung. What is his name?” Neteyam’s voice was getting impatient but his tone was still level; at least to those who didn’t know it.

“Mateo.” Ao’nung finally said clenching his jaw. “But he is not important. Nothing to get jealous about, ma Teyam.”

“Really?”

“Eywa! Yes, really!”

“Prove it.” Neteyam said as he lowered his hands and smiled; goading Ao’nung deeper into their little game.

Ao’nung glared at him and exhaled sharply before pulling the other into a messy kiss. Their breathes mingled as Neteyam pulled Ao’nung up. The other wrapped his legs around Neteyam as the latter reached for the car door. They tumbled into the backseat and left the door open.

“You’re so jealous. Who will believe me when I tell them of your mindless jealousy?” Ao’nung huffed in between wet kisses.

“You make me like this.” Neteyam said in the same level tone as he pulled the other boy into his lap.

“I don’t know why you even do it but keep it up. Be jealous, be possessive. It’s kind of hot.” Kiri could literally hear the cocky smile in Ao’nung’s words.

“Shut up.” Neteyam rolled his eyes; his fury finally simmering down but not completely put out.

“Make me.” Ao’nung couldn’t even flash his signature smirk before Neteyam was kissing him again with new vigour.
He snaked his hand around the other’s throat and pulled him to his lips. Neteyam grazed his fangs gently against Ao’nung’s lower lips and smiled when Ao’nung hissed lowly.
Ao’nung moaned into the forceful kiss that came after and all Kiri could hear was the two boys kissing in the parking lot.
With her hiding in the car next to them.Could that day get any worst?

Kiri risked a peek and just as quickly turned away. Their moment had escalated to something she had prayed would not happen. Ao’nung had removed his shirt and was most definitely grinding down on her brother! Her calm and cool brother who was now lapping and biting Ao’nung’s neck viciously. She didn’t even need to see to know that Ao’nung would definitely be wearing a turtle neck the next day.
Things were definitely getting worst by the second for her.

Kiri closed her eyes and tried to cover her ears but the hushed sounds of her brother singing praises to a hissing Ao’nung was lodged into her brain. That coupled with the other sounds were gradually getting louder And filling up the almost empty parking lot.

“You’ll so good at that.” Kiri didn’t want to know what Neteyam meant by that.

“Oh yeah? Want me to go down on you too, Teyam?” Ao’nung asked breathlessly.

Nope. No. Please Eywa, no.
Kiri really didn’t need to hear that. Especially coming from Ao’nung and directed at Neteyam. It was 100% nightmare fuel.

“And risk others seeing your fucked out face. No chance, only I get to see you like that.” Neteyam stressed on the ‘I’ and without looking Kiri knew he was most definitely grabbing Ao’nung’s face with a hand and staring into the other boy Again. He seemed to do that a lot from what she had seen that night. And Ao’nung just let him with utter compliance.

“Then let’s go home. I wanna do this properly.” Ao’nung whispered harshly as his breathing grew ragged.

“Wanna do what exactly?” Neteyam taunted dragging his palm down Ao’nung’s sternum and settling it low.

“Fuck.” Ao’nung exclaimed softly just as Neteyam lifted his hips and met with one of Ao’nung’s slow grind.

“Are you referring to the act or just voicing out your feelings?” Neteyam asked teasingly.

Kiri couldn’t help but roll her eyes. This brother was surely not the Neteyam she knew. Gone was her angelic proper brother. In his place was a taunting demon who seemed to like tormenting his lover.

It was surreal being there but what could she have done? It was not like she could just get up and leave. They would definitely see her and it was way past the appropriate time to reveal herself. So Kiri sat quietly and tried to block out everything; everything being her brother getting hot and bothered with his lover literally 5 feet away from her.

“Why don’t you drive us back to our place and find out?” Ao’nung taunted back just as he opened his mouth and kissed Neteyam’s jaw and trailed down his neck: “Come on, Teyam. You’ve had your fun teasing me. I promise I’ll be good.”

“Good enough to stop letting others touch you so blatantly? Mateo, was it?”

“Ugh! Not this again…”

“Hmm?”

“Fine. Yes! I’ll be good. I’ll be so good, Teyam.” Ao’nung actually whined and took Neteyam’s hand in both of his. He watched his lover and kissed his palm: “I’ll be more aware of my teammates and stuff. But you know I only have eyes for you, right? I don’t even care to look elsewhere. Only you.”

“Good boy.” Neteyam finally smiled genuinely pleased with Ao’nung’s answer. He cupped Ao’nung’s cheek before kissing him again.
Ao’nung tread his fingered through his braids and his beads clinked as he tightened his grip.

“Now let’s go, I’m tired of waiting.”

“So needy.” Neteyam actually had the nerve to tsk. As if Ao’nung was nothing but a child or pet.
Kiri actually felt bad for Ao’nung for a second.

“Only because you keep teasing me so. I love you so please? Can we go now?” Ao’nung said in a shaky voice.

“I love you too, ma Nung.” Neteyam stroked Ao’nung’s face and looked up at the younger boy.
He’d never thought he would let his anger get the best of him but there he was. He was probably going to go hard on Ao’nung as soon as they reached their shared apartment. He knew Ao’nung could take it. The alcohol was definitely making both of them braver and their restraints more lax. Neteyam was probably going to have to apologise the next day but right then he didn’t care. He tilted his head and gave Ao’nung one last quick kiss .

“Come on, let’s go home so you can show me just how good you’ll be.” Neteyam tossed Ao’nung his shirt as the two got into the front seats and Neteyam started the car.

“Yes, sir.” Ao’nung smiled unabashedly as he leaned against his seat and slipped a hand on Neteyam’s thigh.

Kiri laid unmoving even after the two were long gone. She blinked numerous times trying to make sense of everything when her phone lit up.

“Kiri? Where are you?” Rotxo asked sluggishly.

“Come up to the car.” Kiri said still dazed.

“Huh? Are you okay?”

“Yeah I am. Just… let’s go home.” Kiri said as she heard Rotxo shuffling on the other side.

“Yeah okay.”

“Can I stay over tonight?” She asked just as she saw the boy climb up to the parking lot.

“Of course!” Kiri could see him smile brightly as he approached the car.

“Hurry up, let’s go!” Kiri shouted out of the window as she hung up. She shifted into the front seat and unlocked the door for him.

“Okay! Why are you in such a hurry though?” Rotxo asked as he got in.

“Where’s Lo’ak and Tsireya?”

“Still hanging out down there. They said they’d go back together. Did Ao’nung and Neteyam leave already?”

“Yeah. They did.” Kiri couldn’t help herself from giggling.

“What happened?” Rotxo asked with a questioning smile.

“Oh, a lot.” Kiri laughed louder. “You can’t tell Ao’nung and Neteyam I was here the entire time though.”

“Wait… did you catch them doing something…? Kiri!” Rotxo exclaimed as she nodded with widened eyes.

“Promise me you won’t say anything! I was never here okay?!”

“What did you see?!”

“Enough. Ma Eywa, too much!”

“Tell me. Kiri!”

“Okay okay. I’ll tell you later. Let’s just get out of here. This place is sooo tainted and I just can’t be here anymore.”

Rotxo laughed loudly as he pulled her into a side hug and kissed her forehead.

“Okay , let’s go.”

“Please.” Kiri said tiredly.

As they drove away from the beach, she finally began to relax. She smiled as Rotxo sang along to the song playing on the radio and sighed. It had been a very long day for Kiri.

Well at least they seem more than happy. Hopefully, they never find out I was there though.

Notes:

I don’t even know what this is. But bottom Ao’nung is slowly becoming a new interest. And domineering Neteyam is just ✨💕😌 sign me up, miss Ma’am.
