It was the beginning of the new school year at Garreg Mach University. Byleth was a new student this year, having recently moved to the area. There was a bustle of activity, with students all around, some chatting with excitement about their classes, others not sounding too enthusiastic. As she walked along the pathway into the main hall, she could feel eyes on her, clearly people were trying to figure out the new girl, not that it bothered her of course. She soon found her classroom in in which she would study the History of Fódlan. Being the only one there, she took a moment to look around, already picking out a desk to sit when her thoughts were interrupted by a young blonde man rushing in, clearly in distress.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry if I startled you. I did not think anyone would be in here yet"
"Why are you in such a rush?"
"It's an embarrassing story. You see, a friend of mine is what you may call a bit of a womanizer. It is something I have lectured him about countless times. Well today he told me he would make an effort to change but only if I asked out the next girl I saw. Unfortunately I am not one for approaching something like that so hastily and in my bumbling attempt, I must have offended the poor lady and well... Let's just say I fear my first day at Garreg Mach may be my last unless I can hide from her"
As if on cue, a lady's voice yelled from the corridor, "YOU GET BACK HERE!!!"
The mans face fell, his eyes looking in Byleths with desperation, "I hate to burden you with my problems having just met but could you please help me?"
"Sure", her eyes pointed to the door, "Go up against the door and I'll deal with this"
"Alright".
He quickly made his way to the door, pressing his back right up against the wooden frame, trying to keep as quiet as possible. He could hear the lady's footsteps get closer as she poked her head through the doorway.
"Hey you, have you seen a blonde jerk come through here?"
Byleth shook her head, "Sorry, haven't seen him"
The lady groaned in annoyance, "Okay well thanks anyway". She left, storming down the corridor as she continued her search.
"Alright she's gone"
The man sighed in relief, "Thank you so much for your help. I hope this hasn't made your first impression of me a negative one"
She shrugged, "You don't seem like the type to mess with girls on purpose so it's fine"
"Speaking of which, I will be sure to have a chat with Sylvain later to ensure he's keeping his side of our bargain. Oh but where are my manners? My name is Dimitri, I am excited to study with you"
"Nice to meet you Dimitri, I'm Byleth". The two shook hands as the class bell rung and students began to steadily filter into the room, taking their seats, with Byleth and Dimitri deciding to sit together.
