Enid’s day was going pretty well, she didn’t hit the snooze when her alarm rang in the morning thanks to a well-rested night’s sleep, she was able to get to the cafeteria early enough to snatch the famous strawberry rainbow sprinkles cupcake before they run out and even had time to get some hot goss with Yoko before having to go to their first class.
It was a Tuesday which meant that she shares most of her classes with her friends! First Vampire Literature with Yoko, Botany with Wednesday and Greek Studies with Ajax, and oh em gee, when she invited him to sit next to her he agreed! Granted they didn’t spoke a lot during the class, and she didn’t pay much attention to the subject being discussed by the teacher, instead she spent the 60 minutes watching the gorgon boy and doodling on her notebook, when the class ended she even got the courage to ask him to eat lunch with her and her friends at the quad, he totally said yes and now she just needed to get through one more class and then she’ll be expending her free hour with her favorite people and her crush.
Well, most of her favorite people.
Wednesday never eat lunch in the quad or in the cafeteria, she preferred to eat all her meals in the privacy of their share dorm room, Enid didn’t understand it at first but after months of interacting with the goth she decided to accompany her in her meals somethings, it was really different that eating with her friends, the first times they share their meal time Enid just tried to stay silent as to not annoy her friend, Wednesday somehow noticed that and she just started asking her about her day and even if Enid knew nothing of what she was talking about was of importance to her friend she always listened and even add some commentary here and there, it was a time that Enid cherished with her whole heart.
But anyways, maybe Wednesday will like to joining them in the quad someday.
Lunch time finally started, she declared emergency meeting on the girl’s bathroom with Yoko and Divina where they helped her touch up her makeup for the occasion, after that they made it to their usual bench with their food, Bianca and Kent where already there, arguing about something.
“Kent, Bianca’s right.” Divina said taking her seat in between her brother and Yoko.
“You don’t even know what we’re talking about!” The siren argued.
“She’s still right.”
Enid giggled as the twins fight, she loved their relationship they teased and annoyed each other immensely but they also had each other back’s no matter what. She shook her head trying to stop thinking about siblings and started looking for certain gorgon, and getting nervous when she couldn’t find him anywhere.
“Did you tell him where we will be?” Yoko asked her noticing how restless she was getting.
“Yes, twice.” The wolf took a sip from her orange juice still scanning the quad, she smiled when she saw familiar dark hair.
“Wends!” her scream got the attention from all of her friends, but Enid could only see Wednesday giving her a court nod in response to her waving.
“Maybe you should invite her to have lunch with us instead.” Yoko gave her a very strange look.
“Nah, you know how she is, she likes eating at our dorm while reading articles about the latest homicides to get inspiration for her novel.” She answered taking a bite of her beef.
“And you,” Yoko pointed at her “Enid Sinclair, who can even watch a slasher film, willingly eat with her?” Enid scoffed at Yoko’s tone.
“It’s not like I’m reading the articles myself, she just gives me a watered down summary and how she would incorporate it to her story.” The wolf shrugged, looking around the quad again, she was oblivious to Yoko’s reaction, eyebrows high and mouth slightly open, letting her straw fall back to her tumbler.
The rest of lunch was spent talking about classes, the upcoming activities they had planned, what jobs they would get at outreach day, the upcoming Poe Cup, and what theme the Rave’N would be this year, Enid could only half listen to what was being said, her disappointment growing as time passed and Ajax was nowhere to be seen, he hasn’t sent even a text, she has been checking every 5 minutes!
When the gang was getting ready to get back to classes the gorgon finally appeared, looking like he run a mile.
“Enid, sorry!” The wolf gave a nod to her friends to go on without her.
“Hey Ajax.”
“I totally forgot, my friends wanted to get together for a Smash competition and I lost track of time.” Oh, so that was why he didn’t show up.
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it.” She was feeling really bad now and just wanted to get to class.
“Maybe we can hang out later?” He asked and the hope Enid could see in his eyes make her relax a bit.
“Sure, text me the details?”
“You got it.”
After classes Enid was in her room with Thing, getting their weekly manis done and talking about her day.
“He forgot about lunch with me! Can you believe it Thing?” the hand stopped his work on her pinkie nail to sign.
He doesn’t sound so bright.
“Don’t be rude, it happens to all of us.” She tried to defend the gorgon.
Didn’t you say he was playing videogames with his friends?
“I mean- yeah.” She left her head hang in defeat “But he said we would hang out later, to make it up to me, who knows maybe he wants to go to behind the greenhouse tonight!” The blonde started giggling at the idea.
And your nails will look amazing. Thing sang as he finished the last nail.
“That’s right! Thank you so much Thing, now, let’s look for a killer outfit!”
The moment Enid got up from the bed she started coughing.
Are you okay? Are you getting sick? Thing stood up in alarm.
“No-“ more coughs “I’m just feeling-“the girl couldn’t even talk without coughing. “I’ll get some air.” She started walking towards the big spider web window, getting close enough to touch the handle when she felt something solid in her throat.
“Shit Thing, I’m gonna throw-“ With the last cough a single black petal came out of the wolf’s mouth.
Enid stayed really still, almost as if she was put on pause at that very moment, she could only see the flower petal that had come from her body.
Nononononono her head started spinning, millions of thoughts pilling up so fast that she couldn’t processes them, shit! How did this even happen!? Sure, she had a crush on Ajax for some time now but that’s what she thought it was, a crush! Not…. Not love. But this, this petal, that’s what it means isn’t it? That she was in love and she was sick.
Fuck, she really had the worst luck ever huh, first she can’t wolf out and now this, she really went and got one of the weirdest diseases ever! It’s so rare on wolves that there’s only 3 published cases in the modern day, and now she’s the fourth, oh shit, she was going to die.
No, no, she had to think positively, it was only a petal, that means that the disease is only starting right? Maybe her body took Ajax’s forgetful act waaay more serious that it was, right? That’s why now it thinks she in love and it’s unrequired but it isn’t! It can’t be, she knows Ajax likes her, she just needs him to fall in love with her.
Fuck, that sounds awful, but it is the only way she’s going to get out of this alive, literally, she took a deep breath, in, hold it, and out, nothing felt different, it wasn’t hard to breath, goodness she really had to go to a doctor or something see how far along is this thing, but how? There’s no way she’s telling her parents; she’s embarrassing enough for the family as to now be dying because she can connect with her mate. Mate? Was that what Ajax was? She felt her wolf in discomfort, she really needs to see someone.
The wolf was so lost on herself that she did not hear the door opening, not the words of one Wednesday Addams.
“Thing, get my coat, we’re going out.”
