Work Text:
Here in the garden
Let's play a game
I'll show you how it's fun.
Jon had convinced Damian to play some silly game with him.
Even if he would never admit it out loud, Damian was having fun with the boy and was enjoying his company.
Until late in the afternoon, Jon's father, Clark, who looked a little apprehensive, came to pick him up to take him home.
Here in the garden.
Stand very still.
This is going to be so much fun.
Jon's face changed from a happy smile to a sad kind of smile, he walked over to Damian, giving him a rather tight hug. "Hey D, wait for me ok? I'll be right back and we can play again"
>tt< "Don't worry farmboy, I'm not going anywhere"
And then she smiled.
That's what I'm after.
A smile in her eyes.
The sound of her laughter
Happy to listen.
Happy to play.
Happily watching her drift away.
God, Damian loved that boy, loved the smile that was always on his face, those eyes that reminded him of the big blue sky, the sound of his laughter. Damian just watched him head towards the large double doors of the manor, and as soon as the doors were closed, Jonathan was out of sight.
Happily waiting.
All af my own.
Under the endless sky
Counting the seconds.
Standing and alone.
And thousands of years go by.
Two weeks have passed since Jon left, two torturous weeks that felt like millions of years. However, even in silence, Damian would continue to wait anxiously for his friend's next visit.
Happily wondering.
Night after night.
Is this how it works? Am I doing it right?
Happy to listen
Happy to stay.
Happy to watch her drift away
Three weeks finally passed, and Damian couldn't help but worry about Jon, he should be back by now, shouldn't he? He would like to ask his father about the boy's whereabouts, but he would never let anyone know that he enjoyed the younger's company. He must just be busy with something, he'll be back when he can, Damian thought.
You keep turning pages.
For people who don't care.
People who don't care about you.
And still it takes you ages to see that no one's there.
To see that no one's there.
To see that no one's there.
Every one's gone on without you.
Damian was convinced that that something could have happened to Jon, there's no other reason for it to take so long, is there? Not that he minded, but he couldn't have forgotten about Damian, could he?
Finally something.
Finally news.
About how the story ends.
She doesn't exist now.
Survived by her son.
And all her brand new friends
Jon is back.
That's what they said.
But.
This is not Jon.
That's not his friend three years younger than him.
It must be a mistake.
It must be another Jonathan.
It's what Damian likes to believe.
But deep down he knew.
That was Jon.
An older Jon.
Who has a boyfriend.
Who has a new team.
The same Jon who had assured him he would be back soon.
The same Jon who told him to wait.
Isn't that lovely?
Isn't that cool?
And isn't that cruel?
And aren't i fool to have.
Happily listening.
Happily stayed.
Happily watching her drift away.
Damian is the son ofBatman, and Talia al Ghul. The grandson of Ra's Al Ghul. The heir of the Demon's Head.
He shouldn't feel so rattled just because of some stupid farmboy.
He regretted everything.
Regretted meeting Jonathan.
(Big mistake)
Regretted getting too attached to him.
(Weak)
Regretted listening to him.
(Stupid)
Regretted waited for him.
(idiot)
Regretted seeing he drift away.
