To think it came in the form of a Tiktok video is comical. Buck and Eddie confessed and finally shared their first kiss over six months ago. It was new for both of them, it came with fears and doubts, so they decided to keep quiet. Let this love remain just theirs for a time, giving the opportunity to push past those fears and know that this could really work for them.
Keeping it a secret was going perfectly fine, no doubt the team had their suspicions but it didn’t matter. They would tell them when they were ready. After they felt it was time to let them in on their favourite secret. For now, they wanted to remain in their little bubble, spending nights together, their days off at each other’s houses, watching movies and playing video games with Christopher. They have yet to tell the boy of this new development, worried that if it didn’t work out, he would be crushed. It was better to know for sure this would last than get his hopes up for a short time before it all imploded.
Not that they thought it would implode, they’ve both been working hard on themselves, getting to better places. Healthy enough places that they feel they could give this a go. If Buck and Eddie had confessed to each other even a year ago, they wouldn’t have lasted, no matter how much they loved one another. They needed to love and respect themselves first.
Now, they do. At least, more than they had before. Now, they’re in a place where if they need help, they know to ask. Especially Eddie. He’s grown, he’s gotten better with recognizing his emotions and dealing with them instead of packaging them away. He’s learning to ask for help. And there’s no one he’d rather ask than Buck. His Buck.
They’ll tell their team eventually. They want to, it feels wrong to keep things from their family.
Did they expect their day off would be the way it's revealed? No, definitely not.
They were at the pier, spending a day just the two of them. Buck was walking to find a place for them to sit while Eddie waited in line for food, two guys approached Buck. One was filming while the other held a small microphone.
“Would you like to be on my Tiktok series?” The guy with the microphone said. “Uh, sure? What’s the series?” Buck asked as he saw Eddie walking over in his peripheral vision. “Okay so basically, the series is me trying to see if I can guess people’s sexuality based on their appearance and a few questions.”
Buck laughed. “Perfect, I love it.” Eddie stood next to him with a soft smile. “Hey, did you get funnel cake?” Buck asked his boyfriend. Eddie pursed his lips together and scrunched his nose. “I forgot to find the truck, but I got us a table in the restaurant over there,” he said, pointing to the building a little ways behind them. “Nice. Okay, let's do this man, let’s see if you can guess.” Buck smiled, turning back to the guy with the microphone.
“Alright, so… is that a fruit drink in your hand? That’s gay.” Buck laughed loudly. He was in fact drinking a strawberry refresher, holding the lid between his fingers as he lowered his arm. “Look at how you’re holding it, that’s gay too.” Buck blushed and continued to laugh, fixing his hold on the drink to a different position. “You’re wearing a jean vest with pins on it, that’s screaming bisexual to me. The tattoos, very cool by the way, they’re also kinda bi.”
Buck just kept smiling and laughing. So far, this guy was hitting every mark. He took a sip of his drink, just to have something to do. He wanted to reach out and touch Eddie but that would give it away. “You have the sex swagger of a guy who’s fucked a lot of women.” Buck choked on his drink. It was Eddie’s turn to burst with laughter, although he still feels somewhat jealous and possessive over Buck. He doesn’t normally like to think of the sexual adventures Buck had before him. “Okay but you also have the swagger of a guy who’s fucked a lot of guys.” Buck reached up to scratch above his birthmark, still recovering from choking. Eddie turned his face away, trying to hide his expression.
It was funny because he and Buck had fucked that morning, and the night before. There may even be a little plug inside Eddie right now, keeping Buck’s sperm inside him for as long as possible. He likes it that way. Actually, he loves it when Buck gets like that, it manages to turn him on even more.
“Okay, a few questions now,” the guy said. Buck managed to compose himself enough to listen and answer. “When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?”
“Uh… when I was seven, all I wanted to be was a pirate,” Buck said. “Okay, so that’s gay.” Buck laughed. “I remember I would be a pirate for Halloween every year and sometimes I would just wear the eyepatch for fun,” he smiled as he reminisced.
Buck had begged Maddie to help him find a pirate costume when he was seven because his parents seemed to keep forgetting they had a kid to take out trick or treating. No sixteen-year-old wants to take their seven-year-old brother on Halloween, they want to go to parties with their friends, they want to have no responsibilities that night, but Maddie loved her brother. She made every holiday and every event or activity fun. She made sure Buck had a childhood full of happy memories for as long as she could. Not many teenagers love spending time with their baby siblings, but Maddie did. If Buck wanted to dress up as a pirate, Maddie would dress up as a maiden turned pirate. Even if it wasn’t Halloween and Buck had just wanted to play pirates, Maddie would cancel her plans and play with him. She was the best big sister in the world, she cared. She remembered he existed, something his parents never seemed to do.
“Dude you’re like giving me whiplash here, I can’t decide on gay or bi.” The guy said, snapping Buck from his thoughts. Eddie snickered quietly in the background.
“Okay, what did you study in college?” Buck had to purse his lips to keep in a laugh. “I flunked out… then I got kicked out of community college because I spent all my tuition money on my bike. Then I crashed the bike…”
“Bisexual. Personally, I’m bisexual and I think that is totally something I would do.” Buck laughed, taking another sip of his drink. “Alright final question, what do you do for work?”
“Firefighter,” Buck smiled.
“That explains the sex swagger. Honestly, you’re giving me serious bisexual vibes.” All Buck and Eddie could do in that moment was laugh.
“Alright, final guess, locking it in… bisexual.” Buck continues to laugh, raising his drink in the form of a cheers before taking a sip. “Was I right?”
“Yep, bisexual all the way.”
“Yes! Whoo! Wait, is this your boyfriend here?” The guy asks, pointing to Eddie. Buck turned to look at him with a goofy smile on his face.
“Are we dating?” He jokingly asked. Eddie just stood there with a blank expression. “Not anymore.”
“What? Why?”
“You had to ask!” Eddie pretended to walk away mad, shooting Buck a smile to make sure the other knew he was joking. Buck has a tendency to think that Eddie doesn’t actually love him and is just playing along to not hurt his feelings.
“Hey I was trying to be funny!” Buck called after his boyfriend with a smile before turning back to the guy, “I think I’m single now,” he joked with wide eyes before laughing and trotting to catch up with Eddie. He grabbed his hand and laced their fingers together as they walked toward the restaurant for lunch.
Eddie pulled at Buck’s hand to halt their walking and turned to face him. “Hey, you know I love you, right?”
“Yeah, of course I know that, Eddie,” Buck smiled, but Eddie just shook his head. “Don’t do that, Buck. You know why I’m saying that. I love you, okay? I love you more than anything.” Buck nodded, smiling wider. “Eddie, I know. I promise I know that. I love you so much.”
“Good,” Eddie smiles, a hand on the back of Buck’s neck to pull him down and connect their lips in one of the softest and most loving kisses Buck has ever experienced.
When the pair entered the station after their weekend off, they found Hen, Chimney, Ravi, Bobby and Athena sitting at the table in the loft. Like they were waiting for them to arrive.
“Anything to tell us, boys?” Hen questioned them and Athena turned her phone to show the Tiktok of them that May had sent her.
Buck and Eddie just looked at each other and laughed. Eddie reached between them to connect their hands with the cutest lovesick expression painted across his face.
“How long?” Chimney asks, a slightly desperate and hopeful look on his face.
“Six months,” Eddie answers with a smile so bright you’d think he just won the lottery. And maybe he did, he has Buck, doesn’t he?
“YES! Pay up fools! I knew it!” Ravi cheered while the rest of the table let out groans and the couple just laughed as they joined their family.
“I love you,” Buck whispered softly. “I love you too,” Eddie said, placing a soft and gentle kiss to his boyfriend’s lips. One filled with care and adoration.
“Okay not at the table, we eat here,” Chimney jokes, drawing laughs from all around.
This was everything they wanted. Standing hand-in-hand for the rest of their lives with their family happy and supportive by their side.
Did they think it would come in the form of a Tiktok video? Absolutely not. Do they wish they could change it? Never.
