Chapter Text
Moon and Sun loved Freddy Fazbears. They’re mother had worked in a Fazbears pizzeria kitchen when they were young. They’re mother didn’t have time to pay attention to them, so she often left the eight year olds to fend for themselves in the arcade while she worked. It was better than being left with one of her many deadbeat boyfriends. Moon didn’t really like them, he didn’t like a lot of things. He didn’t like his birth name, choosing the nickname his brother had dubbed him due to his birthmark that covered a little less than half of his face and body. Giving his face the appearance of a crescent moon, Moon had decided to call his brother Sun in response. His twin loved it. Kids at school heard the nicknames and called him things like Craterface and Cheesehead. They called Sun Hothead and Gasball. But they ignored them.
He didn’t like his blond hair that his mother regularly tied into two braids, he’d asked many times if she’d cut his hair like Sun’s but she refused saying short hair was unbecoming to a girl. Moon would then argue that he wasn’t a girl, and she’d laugh and say yes he was because the doctor said so. Because of the stupid doctor telling his mother he was a girl as a baby Moon was also forced to wear dresses. Teal overall Dresses with matching bows and shoes. He usually wore a lavender long sleeve under it in an attempt to hide his birthmark as it went down his neck and covered his left arm. Moon didn’t mind his blue eyes, nor his freckles, even his pointed nose that stuck out of his face, or his gapped teeth because these features Sun shared with him.
Sun got to wear his blond hair short and it fanned out around his head almost like the star Moon dubbed him, Sun a yellow shirt with orange overalls. He was a ball of energy running from one arcade game to the other, usually dragging Moon behind him. He preferred the games like ski-ball, hoop-shots, and DDR. Meanwhile Moon preferred the arcade games like Pacman, or street fighter. Sun liked winning the tickets, Moon just wanted to play. Being eight, Moon was also a ball of energy but less intense than Sun unless he was angry. Which tended to happen when the kids bullied Sun since Sun was sensitive and an easy target.
Sometimes they watched the performers, two men and one woman. Each dressed like an animal, more akin to a theater production budget. A large dark skinned man played the star Freddy Fazbear, he wore a brown jacket with a black bowtie, a tophat, and brown bear ears. Beside him was a slender gold skinned man with brown hair that was a tad messy, he was wearing a purple button up with a vest and red bowtie with purple bunny ears, and a peach skinned woman wearing a yellow blouse with equally yellow pants, she wore a bib that read Let’s eat , and a mask made to resemble a beak. Freddy, Bonnie and Chica.
They sang and sometimes mingled with the kids in the play areas. They were familiar with Sun and Moon, enough that they referred to him as “Sharon's kids” but they never called them by name. Fine with Moon as previously stated, he hated his name. If you told the two eight year olds that one day they would be considered part of the Fazbear Family they’d laugh, Moon would’ve called you crazy, Sun would tell you you were being silly.
It started one day when Sun was being bullied by a girl from their class. It was her birthday and she hadn’t invited them, for some reason she believed the twins had crashed her party instead of just being stuck in the arcade because they’re mom was working in the kitchen. She was getting in the boy's face so Moon stepped in, it quickly went from a shouting match to a shoving match. He even heard Bonnie yelling. He was trying to stop them, the girl shoved Moon hard into the trash cans, covering him in gross yuck. Bonnie blinked, then covered his mouth, clearly trying not to laugh while the girl did laugh. So did her party. Their whole class. Sun moved towards Moon.
“ Moon?” Moon felt his face burn and he pushed himself up, and ran, away from the arcade, down the hall towards a party room he had never gone to. It was for babies, upon entering he found a small stage with a star pattern curtain amongst a bunch of stray toys, sand boxes, and water tables. Moon moved to it, and hid behind the curtain. Inside the comfortable dark space he found a prop pirate ship and hid inside it, tears pooling in his eyes. Once he was alone hidden away in the false pirate ship Moon cried. He didn’t hear the footsteps climb onto the stage nor approach the false ship.
“ Stowaway check,” A voice called, Moon jumped and spun around to see the figure of a man standing behind him, he was shorter than the rest of the band. He stood about four feet away and made no move to get closer. Moon wiped his eyes and pressed himself to the back of the ship, “ Whatcha doing back here lass?” he asked, kneeling down as he spoke. Moon glared at him.
“ Go away!” He snapped, the man snickered.
“ Yer in my ship Lass, ah but where be my manors, “ He stood again, reaching up as he did, he pulled a cord and a single dim light bulb lit the small space backstage. He had red hair that was tied back in a ponytail, wore a blue bandana over it, and red fox ears on top of that. He also wore a white shirt under a dark red captain's coat. A prop eyepatch over his right eye. He had a small scruffy red beard off his chin. His brown pants torn up by his calves, he had a red fox tail hanging behind him “ I be Captain Foxy!” he greeted, “ What be your name Lass?” He asked, Moon glared at him for another moment.
“ Moon.” He said, Foxy raised an eyebrow at the name, then his eyebrows went up in recognition.
“ Aye! You be Sharon’s girl aint ya?” He asked, Moon huffed, crossing his arms but after a pause Moon nodded, “ What ya doing back here Lass,” Foxy knelt down again, still a good distance away from Moon, he looked back at the man then wiped his eyes.
“ The girl o-out there was making fun of Sun so I told her to stop she pushed me in the trashcans,” Moon mumbled, hiding his face in his knees. Foxy hummed again.
“ Sounds humiliating,” He sympathized, Moon nodded, “ Sun be yer brother yes?” Moon nodded, “ Yer very brave to stick up for him like that,” Moon looked over at him, wiping his eyes again.
“ I am?” He didn’t feel brave hiding in the dark. Foxy nodded, standing.
“ Aye, not many kids would do that, ya got the makins of a pirate,” He smiled, Moon wiped his eyes.
“ I don’t feel brave,” He mumbled, Foxy chuckled.
“ Aye most brave people don’t think they’re brave, but they are, come out to the party room, won’t ya?” He left. Moon hesitated before he climbed out of the boat and moved to watch where Foxy went. He watched the man go down the hall and into the bathroom. After a moment the pirate returned with a wet paper towel, Moon hesitated before moving off the stage, Foxy gestured for Moon to sit on a chair that sat against the wall. After a moment Moon did and Foxy gently started wiping the sticky residue off his face.
“ Bonnie didn’t do anything to stop that girl from pushing ya?” Foxy asked, Moon shrugged.
“ he laughed,” Foxy rolled his eyes, and shook his head.
“ I’m sure he didn’t mean anything by it,” Foxy tried to assure, footsteps came running down the hall.
“ Moon! Moon there you are! Are you okay!” Sun cried running up to him. Foxy blinked at the boy.
“ She’s alright lad,” Foxy assured “ wait here another moment lass,” He said, standing again, he moved down the hall again. Sun sat on the bench next to him.
“ Are you okay Moon?” Moon hummed, bringing his knees to his chest.
“ are you?” He asked, Sun nodded.
“ they got so mad at Cindy! She’s been banned!” Moon blinked in surprise.
“ Really?” He asked, Sun nodded.
“ Bonnie got so mad after you left, and Freddy told her mother that she shouldn’t be provoking other patrons and then her mom said we shouldn’t have been there since she booked a party and then all three of them banned Cindy and her mom!” Sun told him, Moon gaped.
“ Oh. . . cool!” Moon giggled, served her right. Foxy returned, their mother in tow.
“ Oh god Allison what have you done now?!” She sighed in an annoyed way, examining the sticky gross braids in Moon’s hair, “ I spent so long on your hair this morning why would you go and play in the garbage?” She scolded. Moon let his gaze fall to his knees.
“ But Mom Cindy-”
“ I am not talking to you Kellen,” She snapped at Sun who fell silent and let his own gaze fall to his lap, “ You’re lucky they’re letting me take some unsellable clothes from the prize counter and use the staff showers to get you cleaned up, though honestly Allison I should make you tough it out til tonight like this maybe then you’ll finally learn how to behave like a lady!” She snapped, presenting a small back and stuffing it in Moon’s arms.
“ Now hold on,” Foxy cut in, “ The Lass was pushed, she wasn’t playing in the garbage, besides what wrong with a little rough housing they be kids-” Their mother turned on him.
“ Oh I'm sorry Pirate boy are they your kids? No? Then shut up,” She grabbed Moon a tad roughly by the arm, “ C’mon lets get you cleaned up, stupid girl,” Foxy’s gaze had hardened but he didn’t say anything.
