Chapter 1: the good old tactic

Chapter Text

After his entrance exam, Dazai thought he understood the basics of working as a detective.
With his many years of experience in the port mafia, gun violence or any type of brutality do not scare him, nor do his co-workers have to waste their time teaching him how to defend himself. He knows. He has known for years.

For a new case he chose the good old tactic of getting held captive to get information.
That’s why he is currently tied down to a chair, arms shackled behind his back and with blindfold covering his eyes. From the missing weight on his shoulders his coat his taking of and his emergency knife that usually was on his hip was missing too. Nothing unexpected.

They may have taken his sense to move or see but, they haven’t really wound him except of the bruises he got when he ‘fought’ against them to ‘not get held captive’. However, this seemed to change now with someone entering the room. From the sounds they made, the young detective guessed the person is a middle-aged man wearing boots and leather pants.

“Who do we have here?” The man sounded distracted by something on Dazai’s left. The voice seemed strict, which is perfect for the brunet. People like that are easy to rail up, which makes his job of gaining information much easier. An emotional subject is much more vulnerable and naïve.
‘This won’t take long’ thought Dazai with a grin.

After three days of getting nothing out of this man Dazai has to begrudgingly admit, he underestimated him. No matter what he tried, his investigation led to nothing. Besides that, these thugs turned out to be far more violent than all the paperwork implied, which he learned the hard way – broken bones, cuts and many bruises – however, Dazai did not waste a second thought about the physical pain.

He failed his mission. It was eating him up. The disappointment and embarrassment weighted heavy. And here this man thinks he broke him. A sad attempt to torture THE Dazai Osamu. This man can’t imagine how little he cares about him. In the mafia he endured much worse. He can’t even understand who sits here in front of him! He is THE Demon Prodigy. The prodigy that makes grown men cry. Even the most powerful man in the underground feared him!

That was then. Now he is sitting in a chair covered in blood with nothing on his mind except of shame.

In the same building many meters away are two detectives who spend their last three days searching their newbie. Fighting against the thugs that keep the brunet captive.
“Where is that partner of yours!” a young woman shouts to her blonde comrade while fighting against two men, which wield all sort of knives, with ease in her heels and a confident smirk on her lips. “Ranpo said he is in this building and from the way these guys are fighting he is right” bites the blonde while taking care of one man with a gun who wasn’t the most precise but pretty good at dodging every attack of the detective.
The woman knocks out the blonde’s opponent once she was done with the men she was fighting against. She chuckles while walking ahead “Kunikida, how come I am fighting against everyone in here even though I am here to take care of Dazai’s wounds” The blonde follows her quickly, staying close behind her “I am very sorry Yosano-sensei I will work on my fighting skills.” Whilst speaking he adds that goal to his to-dos in his beloved notebook. The doctor couldn’t help but laugh out loud at how uptight her co-worker is. “Don’t worry I am just kidding. Your starting some fighting lessons with the Fukuzawa-sensei soon, don’t you?” Kunikida nods eagerly “The goal to work properly without having to rely on everybody else’s strength, is to get stronger, quicker and more agile myself. Not to mention we have two geniuses working with us now” “We already rely on you so much Kunikida. There is a reason Fukuzawa-sensei sent us to find Dazai and I doubt he picked you just because he is your partner.”
The duo falls silent after finding an elevator. ‘I haven’t seen any stairs that would get someone undergrounds’ mentions Kunikida while pointing to a button that sends them to a basement, they did not know even existed.

You would think you would lose your sense of time and your surrounding after being blindfolded for days, but not Dazai. If he is not getting any information out of his torturer today, Dazai has to accept that he just wasted everyone’s time.

His torturer just lets out a drawn-out sigh “We have been doing this for days! We both know shit about each other. You get off of this, don’t you? For who do you work, you sick fucker!” With that Dazai felt a strong pain in his shin. From the pain he would guess that this man just hit him with a baseball bat. The brunet silently prayed it wouldn’t be broken or else his walk home would be a hassle.

All of the sudden there were two pair of people running towards where Dazai was sitting. Two people with a familiar sounding run. Could it be?
