Chapter Text
FWEET
You sighed.
Catching the ball you were bouncing as you lift it up in front of you.
You looked across the court, an arrangement of scared and intimidated first years looking back at you.
You looked away.
Throwing up the ball as you followed after it.
You planted your feet, jumping up as you cranked your arm back, releasing it once you reached the apex of your jump.
You slammed your hand against the ball, sending it flying to the other side of the court as the first year who should’ve received it stepped out of the way with a shriek.
You raised a brow at her, the whistle blowing soon after as you looked to the side to see an angry Kojima storming up to you.
“How many times do I have to tell you to not use your full strength on the first years?!” He called out, his voice filled with rage as you softly nodded.
You bowed, Kojima taken aback at your actions as you began to apologize.
“My bad Kojima-san. I’ll be more careful going forward.”
He hummed, stepping back as they called a time out.
You sighed once more, stepping back to the bench as you slumped down against the wall behind it.
It had been a week since Tooru left Japan.
About a week and a half since the new year school year started.
And two weeks since they graduated.
They being your brother and his friends, and basically your entire circle of friends in Shiratorizawa.
Mori moved to Tokyo for university.
Okada moved to Osaka for university.
Ushijima stayed in Miyagi, but has been traveling around for tryouts and informationals with different clubs.
Tendou moved to Osaka to attend a culinary school.
Reon moved to Tokyo for university.
Yamagata moved to Kyoto for university.
Semi attended university in Sendai, so he wasn’t far, but was always busy commuting.
The only people left were Shirabu and Kawanishi from the guys, and Kaneko and Sasaki from the girls.
Though you only really saw Sasaki during practice because she was always off doing homework.
Unlike Kawanishi, who was also in her class.
How does he pass his classes…
You shrugged off the thought when you looked over to see the coaches approaching you all.
“We’re going to end joint practice right here, you all can go ahead, we still have some things to go over with the first years.”
You hummed, a string of “yes” being heard right after as everyone began to pick up.
You picked up your water bottle, pushing yourself up with a sigh as you began walking to the locker room.
“Oikawa!”
You glanced back, stopping for a second to let Kaneko and Sasaki catch up to you as they jogged over.
“You good?” Sasaki asked, looking you over as you nodded.
“Yea? Why wouldn’t I be?” You asked back, continuing to walk forward as Kaneko shrugged.
“You’re heartbroken aren’t you?” She asked.
Sasaki cooed. “Trouble in paradise, Y/N-chan?”
You scoffed.
“Things are perfectly fine between Suna and me, thank you very much.” You argued back.
Sasaki nodded, Kaneko looking at you with a blank look before sighing.
“I meant that Ushjima-san isn’t here anymore.”
You looked back ahead, shrugging as you stepped into the changing rooms.
“Yea… I guess I do miss Waka-san.”
The girls hummed, all of you stopping in front of your lockers.
“I miss the third years too.” Sasaki hummed. “But they’re still around… no worries Oika-chan.” She smiled, softly punching your arm as you snickered.
“Yea, I know.”
“You ready to be called captain yet, ‘Kawa?” Kaneko asked, grinning widely as you flicked her forehead.
“What if you’re actually captain instead of vice-captain? Nothing’s for sure yet Kaneko-chan.” You hummed, picking up your toiletries and towel before closing your locker.
“Oh please.” Kaneko scoffed, crossing her arms as she looked at you with a raised brow. “Everyone knows you’re the next captain.”
Sasaki nodded at her side, throwing her towel over her shoulder. “Everyone knows.”
You scoffed, smiling softly as you shook your head. “It’s whatever… We’re just here to play volleyball after all, leadership positions are only a formality.”
“That’s what the people in power always say.” Sasaki hummed, both you and Kaneko looking at her with a raised brow.
“Aren’t you the one who wants to be a politician?” Kaneko asked, crossing her arms as Sasaki nodded.
“I’ll be different.”
“That’s what they always say.” Kaneko bit back, both of them beginning to bicker as you softly snickered, stepping away and into the shower as you let them continue.
-
“Yahoo~” Tooru smiled widely on your screen, the bright sunlight and blue skies in the background a stark contrast to the dark skies lit with moonlight outside your dorm window.
“Hi Nii-san.” You smiled back, setting your phone down on the table in front of you as you sat down to begin getting ready for bed.
“How were tryouts?” You asked, beginning your skin care routine as Tooru hummed.
“They were okay, they seemed very surprised when I spoke to them in Spanish.” He shrugged, the phone moving slightly as sceneries of trees and clouds passed overhead.
You softly laughed. “Did they try speaking to you in English again?”
He hummed.
“I would’ve studied harder had I known so many people would try to speak to me in English.” He sighed, glancing down at his phone with a smile as you snickered harder.
“Spanish is definitely a lot more helpful in Argentina, Nii-chan.” You hummed, looking at him nod as he stopped at what you guessed to be a stop sign before looking down at his phone again.
“They said I kinda have a Mexican accent.” He grinned, making you laugh again as you looked back at your screen.
“I wonder why.”
“Yea, me too… I was hoping to pick up their Colombian accent instead.”
“You know damn well.” You snickered, looking at him shrug as the trees and clouds started moving overhead again.
“How are those two by the way?” He asked.
You shrugged, tapping your face as you looked back up at your mirror.
“They were literally there to see you off in Tokyo Nii-chan, it has not been that long.”
Tooru snickered, glancing down again when he heard your phone vibrate on the table.
“Speak of the devil.” You mumbled, swiping down on your screen to open the message.
“Was it Kiyoomi?” Tooru asked, glancing down at your serious face on the screen as you read over his message.
“How’d you know?” You teased, smiling slightly as you picked up your phone to text him back.
“Motoya only texts to invite you to parties, or he just snaps his face. Kiyoomi’s the only one who actually texts.” He said, knowing that Sakusa makes up for his silence in person through text while it's the opposite for Komori.
“He’s gonna come over for summer again, and I think I’m going to go over at some point too.” You mumbled, sending your message to Sakusa before placing your phone down again and going back to your skincare.
“Lucky~” Tooru whined, glancing back down when he heard you scoff.
“Says the one across the globe right now.”
Tooru snickered, his steps slowing to a stop as you saw him step into a building and into the elevator.
“Wanna see my apartment?” He asked, lifting the phone up to show you his reflection on the elevator mirrors as you hummed.
“Did you finish settling in?”
He hummed, his keys jangling in the background as he stepped out the elevator. “Yea, I finished unpacking, but it really wasn’t that hard considering they moved all the furniture in for me.” He finished, opening the door to his apartment as he set his phone down to take off his shoes and jacket.
He picked it up to fully show his face as he smiled brightly. “Ready?” He asked.
You nodded.
He turned the camera, walking forward as he stepped into his living room.
You couldn’t help but gasp.
The whole living room had floor to ceiling windows, the sofa was sunken into the ground, just like the one at your parent’s home. White, black, and brown accents lined the walls and floors, and as Tooru walked further in you could see the Bonsai next to the stairs.
Along with it was a small garden with what looked like bamboo trees lining the side opposite to the Bonsai, rocks, sand, and stone arranged like in your zen gardens at home.
He walked further down, the kitchen coming into view as he showed you the black interior with light accents before walking further down to the terrace.
The terrace was private for the most part, high walls lined the terrace as a small river swiveled by it. The river's surroundings shifted as you walked further.
It started with lots of greenery surrounding it, giving it the vibe of a jungle given the type of plants.
Further down the greenery shifted to sand, where a bigger zen garden surrounded the small river.
Rocks stuck out the sand as another bonsai was against the corner where the river turned and ended at the side wall.
“You have a whole zen garden in your balcony?” You gaped, looking as Tooru’s camera lightly shook as he turned back around to walk inside, showing you his bare feet as he walked in.
“I showed you the plan before it even began to get built bunny, why so surprised?” He snickered.
“I didn’t think you’d actually do it.” You mumbled, looking back at Tooru switch his camera around to show you his bright smile.
“Of course I did!”
You softly snickered, raising a brow when Tooru flipped his camera again.
He was going up the stairs, the top of the bonsai coming into view before he turned the camera up to the hallway.
A large painting was at the top of the stairs, the scenery and buildings looking like Miyagi in an abstract form. He turned down the hall, huge pictures placed on either side of it as he slowly went showing you them.
The pictures were put in order from youngest to oldest.
They were all family pictures.
Pictures from when you were babies up until your most recent family picture, Tooru’s graduation.
The only other pictures were a couple of individual pictures with Iwaizumi, or Iwaizumi, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa.
He walked into his room, his mattress sitting on top a raised surface as floor to ceiling windows lined the wall that looked out to the city.
You hummed, watching as he stepped onto his bed and laid down, flipping his camera again to show you his face.
“What you think?”
“It definitely seems like the type of fancy that you’d get, Nii-san.” You hummed, smiling at him as he smiled wider.
“Right?! I’m glad everything came together nicely.” He said, beginning to rant about the whole creative process and how much time he had spent talking to the interior designers and architects to get everything how he had envisioned it.
“How much did you end up spending?”
He sighed, weak smile on his face. “Too much bunny… too much.”
You snickered, sitting back as you combed through your hair and glanced at the time.
“You should go to sleep.” Tooru said, glancing back at his clock before looking back at you. “Isn’t it late over there?”
You nodded, putting your brush down with a small shrug.
“I always sleep late Nii-san.”
Tooru snickered. “Aren’t you getting your positions tomorrow? You better rest up before they name someone else captain.”
You snickered with him back, about to respond before your phone started vibrating, a small banner showing on top of your screen to signify an incoming call.
You pressed the red button next to the caller's name, ignoring it before looking back at your brother.
“I don’t think I want to be captain again though.” You sighed, leaning back as Tooru raised a brow.
“Why not?”
“It’s too much work.” You sighed, looking back at Tooru as he began laughing out loud, his laughs being interrupted by yet another incoming call.
You pressed the red button again, taking out your hair dryer before plugging it in as Tooru continued.
“You really don’t do much, bunny.” He grinned. “You just go up to shake the opposing teams captains hand and the referees… and-” He continued, getting cut off by the vibrations of the incoming call again as you sighed, pressing the red button again.
“Who’s calling you so much?” He asked, raising a brow at you as you turned on the blow dryer.
“Take a guess.” You answered, beginning to swivel the blow dryer around your head.
“I wish it were Kiyoomi, but if it were him I think you would’ve just added him to the call.” He hummed, glancing back at your face fall into a scowl when your phone started vibrating again. “Just add them.”
You raised a brow at him, lightly biting the inside of your cheek as you shook your head.
“Why not? Even if it’s Ushiwaka, I’ll act civil.” He said, smiling softly as your expression softened.
“Alright… I guess.” You sighed, finally clicking the green button as you added the caller into your current call with Tooru.
The screen split in two, the other side showing a black screen as muffled sounds were heard in the back, a sigh accompanying it when the call connected.
“Finally.” Suna grumbled, his phone against his chest as he moved around on his bed. “Any later and I would’ve thought you were ignoring me.” He snickered to himself, sighing as he continued shuffling around on his bed.
“What was so important that you had to hang up on me so much?” He asked, finally settling in as he sighed, confused at your silence.
“Y/N?” He asked, finally looking down at his screen to see the split screen.
You looked at him with a blank expression, sighing as you placed your blow dryer down.
Tooru looked at him with a raised brow, a look of utter disgust on his face as he made eye contact with him.
“Tooru-san?”
“Yea. Tooru-san.” He clicked his tongue, rolling his eyes as he continued. “She was talking to me before you started spamming her.”
Suna raised a brow, clearing his throat in an attempt to answer back before Tooru cut him off, his smile coming back.
“I have to shower now bunny, I’ll call you later though, let me know how practice goes.” He hummed, his expression softening when you gave him a small smile.
“Yes Nii-chan.”
“Love you.” He said, waiting for your response before hanging up.
“I love you too.”
Your screen merged back into one, Suna the only one left in frame as you sighed and picked up your phone.
“I have to go.” You said, setting your phone down so that it was facing the roof instead of you. “Goodnight Rintarou.”
“Don’t hang up.” He said, making you sigh again as you answered.
“I have to go to sleep.”
“Are you mad?” He asked, making you click your tongue as you glared at him through the screen.
“What do you think?”
“Why?” He asked back.
“Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe because you just acted like a complete dick to me in front of my brother? If I hang up on you I’m obviously busy. There was NO need for you to spam me.” You seethed, anger laced with your words.
“Are you really getting mad at me for calling you?” He asked, raising a brow at you.
“Yes. Yes I am.”
“You only get this sensitive when it involves your brother Y/N.” He sighed. “Look, I’m sorry. But we both know that if you hadn’t been on a call with your brother but someone else you would’ve hung up to answer me instead.”
You clicked your tongue, rolling your eyes as you lift your phone again.
“Yea whatever. Goodnight Rintarou.”
Suna sighed, slowly nodding as he repeated your words. “Good night.”
You hung up right after, turning around to chug your phone at your bed before turning back and sighing.
You leaned forward, resting your head on your arms as you looked down at the ground, breathing deeply as you tried to calm yourself.
You continued breathing until you felt all the way calmed down, turning to look back out the window as you relaxed onto your chair.
“Let’s get it…”
