Chapter Text
Jimin swung his legs as he sat on the exam table, perking up when his new obgyn finally came in. "So, Mr. Park, you haven't gotten your heat this cycle?"
"That's right." Jimin nodded. "I'm pretty sure it's because of the stress of graduating. I just got my master's from business school."
"Impressive." Dr. Choi smiled. "Congratulations." She looked over a complex printout. "Your mate find work here? Or are you living with your partner?"
Jimin furrowed his eyebrows, not sure why she was assuming he was in a relationship when he was very much single. "No, I'm staying with my brother for the summer. Is there a reason you're asking me about my relationship status?"
Dr. Choi's face was unreadable. "Truth be told, I like to know upfront of the news I'm delivering is good or bad."
That had Jimin's heartrate picking up. "What news is that?"
"You're pregnant."
There was a beat before Jimin started laughing. "Very funny, doc, you're pregnant too. We're all pregnant!" He wiped a tear away. "Wouldn't it be hilarious if I was actually pregnant? Because that would be a major life event that I am in no way prepared for."
Dr. Choi gave him a sad smile. "Maybe they tell jokes different where you're from, but I’m not joking, sweetie. You're pregnant. As in for real. There is a bun in that oven."
The gravity of what was happening finally hit Jimin. "But I can't be pregnant!"
"I know this comes as quite a shock." Dr. Choi said sympathetically.
"I can't be pregnant now." Jimin repeated. "That's not the plan. The plan is to live with my brother for the summer, interview for the job with the mayor, and start my career! There aren't any babies in my plan!"
"Plans change?" Dr. Choi offered with an uncertain tone. "Did you have sex with anyone recently? Would have been about, oh, roughly four to six weeks ago."
"No!" Jimin shook his head. "With my thesis due-are you kidding? There's been only one kind of spread sheet in my apartment, and it wasn't the fun kind. I haven't been with anyone except-" He cut himself off as realization dawned on him.
roughly four to six weeks ago…
Jimin sat excitedly in his chair at his business school graduation ceremony, hanging on the Dean's every word as she introduced the keynote speaker. "I wonder who they got…" He whispered to the person sitting next to him. "Probably some ancient alpha who knew Jung Jooyoung or something."
"And now it's my great pleasure to introduce our surprise guest…" She paused for dramatic effect. "Come on up here, Kim Taehyung-ssi--oops, guess I spoiled the surprise!" At the mention of the name, Jimin's heart flipped in his chest. He sat up straighter to watch the alpha take the stage. "Not only is he an alumnus of our program, but he's rocketed his way to success as the CEO of a highly successful furniture company! And if you'll permit me a little braggadocio, I personally own several Vante chairs, each one an absolute apex of modern craftsmanship. So please put our hands together four our very own Kim Taehyung!"
Jimin applauded fervently, still in disbelief that his idol was actually there, speaking to his graduating class. "I'd like to supply you with what I can only hope are words of wisdom." Taehyung started out.
He was soon drowned out by a group of omegas directly in front of Jimin. "He can supply me with whatever he wants for as long as he wants."
"Amen to that. I just can't believe he's rich and handsome and single."
"He won't be single for long. His family is, like, royalty. He's the most eligible bachelor around."
"Yeah! I want to just lick him all over."
"Who knew a furniture CEO could be so sexy?"
"And with that Daegu satoori? Sign…me…up."
Jimin cleared his throat, leaning forward to get their attention. "Excuse me, I can't hear Taehyung over your mindless fawning."
The omegas stared at him in annoyance. "Whatever."
Holding back an eyeroll, Jimin lowered himself to their level just to get them to shut up. "He's got a dreamy voice, I'd like to actually hear it."
"He's got a point." One of the omegas said.
"Yeah, I could listen to him all day."
"Fine, everyone shut up."
Jimin settled back into his seat and tried to focus on Taehyung, soaking up everything he said like a sponge. "I never would have found success with my company had I not had the grit to doggedly pursue my dream. Sure, you've got fancy degrees. But never forget your hard work, the long nights, the tired days, to earn them. That's the path y'all are on. The path to accept nothing less than success. I offer my congratulations. Thank you."
After the ceremony had concluded, Jimin made his way to the front, hoping to actually talk to Taehyung, but the alpha was already surrounded by omegas. "So, Taehyung, why don't you answer the question all of us want to know?'
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. "Something tells me it has nothing to do with my recent Forbes interview on negotiation strategies."
"It doesn't!" One of the omegas giggled. "We want to know if you're coming to the Dean's party!"
"More importantly, are you bringing anyone? A partner maybe?"
"I'm afraid I won't be attending any party." Taehyung deadpanned. "Forgive me, but I cannot imagine sustaining conversation like this for an entire evening." He tried to leave but nearly bumped into Jimin, his eyes lighting up as they met the omega's. "Pardon me. I'd love to stay and chat but…well, between you and me, I've had about enough mindless chatter."
Jimin jumped at the opportunity. "Then you have nothing to worry about. I'm the one who has the grit to doggedly pursue his dream."
Taehyung visibly relaxed, a smile playing at the corner of his lips. "Nice to know someone was paying attention to my speech."
"I ran out of currency in the game I play on my phone so what else was I gonna do?" Jimin joked.
A tiny chuckle came out of Taehyung. "And if you don't mind sharing, what exactly is your dream?"
"I want success, but so does everyone else." Jimin shrugged. "More than that, I want to help people. I want to make a difference in their lives."
Taehyung hummed. "Profit and nobility don't always go hand in hand."
"Then I guess I'll have to pursue twice as hard, won't I?" Jimin tilted his head.
"You're sharper than a cornered cat, aren't you?" Taehyung mused.
Jimin smiled. "I have my moments." He turned to walk away. "Well, it's been fun."
"Wait!" Taehyung stopped him, looking at Jimin like he wanted to ask for his name, so Jimin provided it for him. "Will I be seeing you at this party, Jimin?"
"That depends…"
"On?" Taehyung watched Jimin expectantly.
"On whether you can imagine sustaining this conversation for an entire evening." Jimin stated.
Taehyung smiled. "It'd be my pleasure."
"Good." Jimin nodded before walking away, his heart pounding in his chest.
20 minutes later, Jimin frantically video chatted his brother from a department store. "Come on, Seokjin! Pick up, pick up, pick up!"
Seokjin finally answered the call with a bright smile on his face. "Hey, new graduate! Congratulations!"
"Thanks. No time to chat. This is a brother emergency." Jimin said quickly.
Seokjin's eyes widened. "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Is it carbon monoxide?"
Jimin gave him a flat look. "It's not carbon monoxide. I'm going to a graduation party, and I need to look like I'm someone who doesn't have to buy a new outfit on the way."
Seokjin's demeanor grew serious. "Don't worry. I got this. Show me the racks." Jimin flipped the camera, showing Seokjin every rack of clothing in the store. Just when he was about to give up, Seokjin finally gasped. "There! That lacy black top and those red shorts! Try them on!" Jimin grabbed them and hurried to the fitting rooms to try them on. "You look amazing!" Seokjin gushed as Jimin studied himself in the mirror, unable to deny how good they looked on him.
"I can't believe how hot I look." Jimin smiled as he posed in the mirror.
"When you're lying in an alpha's bed, you know who to thank."
Jimin froze before picking his phone back up. "Seokjin, I'm not going to sleep with an alpha I just met!" Seokjin gave him a look. "…but if we end up making out, I'll be sure to send you a thank you card."
Seokjin beamed. "Dear Seokjin, thank you for the hot alpha action. Sincerely, Jimin."
"The perfect card." Jimin laughed. "Hallmark really needs to up its game." He gathered up his things so he could leave the fitting room and purchase the outfit. "I gotta run. We'll talk later! Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome! Go slay!"
***
Jimin entered the house to music blaring from a stereo system as graduates danced and drank all around him. The three omegas that were in front of him at the ceremony stumbled past, shushing each other. "Look, it's that omega from graduation."
"He looks so pretty."
"Hyunjung, don't say that!"
Hyunjung ignored her friends. "You look pretty!" She called out to Jimin.
Jimin smiled at her. "Thank you!"
Hyunjung then pouted. "Where's my Taehyung?"
Not letting her know that he was also searching for the alpha, Jimin stepped away from the noise and chaos and out onto a secluded balcony. He was only there for a moment when Taehyung came out to join him, "Jimin, you came." He said with a. bright smile, two mint juleps in hand. Then he stopped, jaw dropping for a second before a smirk covered his surprise. "Would it be too forward of me to say that you are completely breathtaking?"
Jimin felt his cheeks heat up. "Not at all."
"And I came outside for air so…" Taehyung bit his lip as he raked his gaze over Jimin. "You're really defeating the purpose. And now I must be perfectly honest…I'm afraid to learn much more about you."
"Really?" Jimin tilted his head. "What's there to be afraid of?"
"Well, thus far, you've been nothing but absolute perfection." Taehyung stated, making Jimin blush even more.
"A nightmare, I know." Jimin managed to joke.
Taehyung's smile softened. "I'm afraid if I learn any more, it'll ruin your mystique."
Jimin bit his lip, stepping a bit closer to Taehyung. "I think it's worth the risk. Go ahead. Learn away."
"Alright then." Taehyung cleared his throat. "Why did you decide to pursue business?"
"I wanted to make a difference." Jimin answered honestly. "To know that something I created had a meaningful impact on the lives of others."
Taehyung hummed in agreement. "When I sold my first box, I got a letter from the omega who bought it. She was a grandmother and she said it reminded her of the box her father would keep her mother's love letters in." Jimin couldn't help but smile at the story. "Just about brought me to tears."
"So has my mystique been ruined?" Jimin inquired.
"Quite the opposite." Taehyung said. "I didn't think it possible to become more perfect, but somehow you've managed. Something tells me we're a lot alike, Jimin."
On the ground below, a graduate with a guitar stepped outside and began to play a slow song. Taehyung bit his lips before stepping closer to Jimin. "I know we hardly know each other but…" He put down his drink and extended a hand, inviting Jimin to dance.
Jimin barely managed to hold back a laugh. "Hold on, did you set up that guitarist?"
"I assure you, he is a serendipitous coincidence." Taehyung said.
"Well, then I guess we have to seize the moment." Jimin took Taehyung's hand, allowing him to pull him close.
Taehyung's hand fell to the small of Jimin's back as he led him in a slow dance. "Will you indulge me in an exercise, Jimin?"
"That depends on what kind of exercise you're proposing." Jimin said, feeling a tingle of electricity spreading over him from where Taehyung's hand rested on his back.
"Nothing untoward." Taehyung assured him before quietly adding on, "For now." Jimin tilted his head, showing Taehyung he was listening. "See, I've always felt I can get a true sense of a person by how they negotiate, and I'd love to get a sense of you."
Jimin raised an eyebrow. "This seems like another way of potentially ruining my mystique."
Taehyung smiled. "I heard it's worth the risk."
"In that case, ruin away." Jimin giggled.
Taehyung slowly spun Jimin out and back in again, perfectly in rhythm with the music. "Hypothetically, let's say you're negotiating with me, and I've got something you badly want."
Jimin hummed. "Hypothetically."
"Let's say it's the last bottle of water in the desert." Taehyung elaborated.
"Not my first thought, but sure."
Taehyung let out a chuckle at that. "Go on, convince me. What's your technique?"
Jimin pout on his best puppy dog eyes, pouting out his lip. "Please, Taehyung, I'm so thirsty. Won't you give a parched omega a drink or two? It would make me so unbelievably happy."
"Now that is hard to resist." Taehyung admitted.
"Then don't." Jimin batted his eyes.
Taehyung spun him out and twirled him back in again, this time holding his hips as his chest pressed against Jimin's back. "Next question. You find yourself riding an untamed beast…"
Jimin felt a tingle building in the pit of his stomach. "Typical Friday night."
"How do you handle yourself?"
"I'd soothe it into submission." Jimin said. "A gentle touch here, a whispered word there."
Taehyung hummed. "You think that'd work?"
Jimin shrugged. "Haven't had any complaints so far. Pretty sure I'm acing this by the way."
"You're full of surprises, that's for certain." Taehyung chuckled. "But then again…" He twisted Jimin abruptly, their faces mere centimeters apart. Then he suddenly dipped Jimin, his body easily supporting his. "So am I." Jimin was breathless when he came back up. "Last question…why did you come up to me after my speech?"
"I wanted to meet my idol." Jimin answered. "So little is known about you."
"I'm not one for the limelight." Taehyung explained.
"But you're an intelligent, down to earth, wildly successful businessman." Jimin pointed out.
Taehyung stared at him stunned for a second. "Jimin, your compliment's rendered me entirely speechless."
Jimin smiled. "Mission accomplished. I like to stun them with kindness." He tilted his head. "So did I pass?'
"You strike me as someone who could make anyone feel like a million bucks." Taehyung told him.
"I am to please."
The music stopped and they separated, but it wasn't what Jimin wanted in that moment. "Just what exactly are we going to do about this?" Taehyung asked.
Jimin raised an eyebrow. "This?"
"This." Taehyung gestured between them. "The chemistry between us. This spark."
"Well…" Jimin bit his lip, taking a step closer to Taehyung. "What do you think we should do about it?"
"I happen to be a little old school." Taehyung said. "That means taking things slow."
Jimin smiled. "Slow sounds nice and refreshing."
Taehyung picked up his mint julep and raised it to Jimin. "A toast then. To slow."
"To slow." Jimin clinked his own glass against Taehyung's.
Just as they were about to drink, they heard the gaggle of omegas calling out from the courtyard below. "There! He's up there!"
"He's like an angel!"
"And he's with him!"
Taehyung winced. "Jimin, I hope you don't mind running in those shoes."
Jimin laughed. "Let's get the hell out of here."
"An idea I can get behind." Taehyung took Jimin's hand, and they ran back into the party.
"We'll need to throw them of our tail." Jimin said.
"How?"
Jimin quickly scanned the room. The graduates were all just talking amongst each other. Meanwhile, he saw the Dean tipsily walking through the room. "My babies are all grown up!"
"Dean!" Jimin hurried over to her, hand still gripping Taehyung's tightly. "Could you do us a favor?"
"Anything for a new Taehyung." She said, hiccupping. "Er, new graduate."
Jimin smiled gratefully. "Would you tell the three omegas coming up the stairs that you saw Taehyung heading down that hall?"
The Dean nodded. "I'll see what I can do."
A moment later, Taehyung and Jimin were hiding behind a cluster of talking graduates as the omegas came charging up. "Where'd they go?"
"They should be here!"
"Taehyung? Your Hyunjung is here!"
The Dean approached them. "You're looking for Kim Taehyung? Well, he went down the hall just a moment ago, dearies." They all rushed off down the hall and the Dean waved Jimin and Taehyung past, shooting Taehyung a parting wink.
The pair rushed upstairs and into one of the rooms, quickly closing the door behind them. "I think we lost them." Jimin breathed out in relief."
"Your quick thinking back there bought us some time." Taehyung said. "To be alone together. In this bedroom." A sudden look of concentration came over his face as he moved over to the bed, rubbing his hand along the surface of an ornate wooden headboard. "Look at this gorgeous maple…the mortise and tenon joints are perfectly fitted."
Jimin let out a tiny laugh. "You are really into wood."
"That's how my furniture company got started." Taehyung said. "A growing passion for craftsmanship."
"I have so many things I want to ask you, Taehyung." Jimin said. "Like how does someone fall in love with furniture?"
Taehyung shrugged. "Growing up, my parents moved around a lot. There was always one constant: my halabeoji's handmade solid oak dinner table. Every night at dinnertime, come hell or high water, we gathered around that table to eat and talk and just be a family. The walls and rooms and furniture around us changed, but that table remained."
Jimin smiled softly. "It was like your home."
"Sure was." Taehyung nodded. "And ever since, I've wanted to make furniture that brings people together just like that table did."
"That's a mission I can appreciate." Jimin said softly.
Suddenly footsteps sounded outside the room. "Taehyung?! Taehyung?!"
"Wherever you are, we just want to talk!"
"Yeah! And have your babies!"
"Hyunjung, shut up! You're gonna scare him off!"
"No! I'm drunk!"
Taehyung frantically whispered to Jimin. "We have to hide."
"The closet!" Jimin hissed, tugging Taehyung inside. They squeezed in and closed the door just as the omegas stumbled into the bedroom.
"Forgive me," Taehyung's voice was barely audible out of fear that the omegas would find them. "This is a tighter squeeze than I expected."
Jimin shook his head, whispering back. "I don't mind." He shifted slightly in the tiny space, his body brushing against Taehyung's.
"You're gonna make taking it slow very difficult." Taehyung muttered.
"Well if it were easy, it wouldn't be fun." Jimin retorted.
Taehyung pressed even tighter against Jimin as the closet door handle started to turn. They held their breath, bracing themselves to get caught, but then a voice called out, "Hyunjung, he's not there. Multimillionaires don't hide in the closet!"
"She's right. They probably slipped out a back door and left the party. Come on, let's just go dance."
They listened to the footsteps of the omegas fading away. "I think they're gone." Jimin said.
As they stepped back into the bedroom, Taehyung looked at a message on his phone. "So sorry, Jimin, but I have to call our evening short. Unfortunately, running a business means keeping irregular hours." He looked back at Jimin. "I suppose this is good night. How do I see you again?"
"I’m not sure." Jimin said, wrapping his arms around himself. "I'm leaving tomorrow to stay at my brother's for the summer."
"The entire summer?" Taehyung asked sadly.
"Yeah, it…" Jimin sighed. "It seemed like a good idea at the time."
Taehyung took Jimin's hand in his, eyes gazing into the omega's. "And now?"
Jimin bit his lip. "I don't want this moment to end." He admitted. "I know we said slow but…maybe a goodbye kiss?" Taehyung gently pulled Jimin toward him, pressing his lips to Jimin's in a soft, tender kiss. As Jimin thought about parting ways for the summer, Jimin couldn't help but press closer to the alpha, their kiss growing in intensity.
After a long while, they finally parted, Jimin panting slightly as his heart pounded. "So this is it?" He asked sadly.
Instead of answering verbally, Taehyung kissed Jimin with more urgency. "I suppose it must be." He mumbled against the omega's lips.
"Must it?" Jimin whispered, kissing Taehyung again as every part of his body screamed for more. "Goodbye, Taehyung…" He finally said.
"Goodbye, Jimin."
Jimin turned to leave but was stopped by Taehyung firmly grasping his hand. Looking back into the alpha's deep brown eyes, Jimin knew he couldn't leave, and it seemed as if Taehyung had the same idea. "To hell with slow."
"I couldn't have said it better my-" Jimin didn't get to finish his statement as Taehyung pulled him into a deep kiss. Jimin continued to try to speak but he could barely find the words, his head spinning as Taehyung trailed kisses down his neck. "Why…not…slow?" He finally managed to get out.
"The problem…with slow…" Taehyung murmured between kisses to Jimin's skin. "Is that it's…too slow." He slipped Jimin's shirt over his head and unzipped the back of his short, pushing them down past Jimin's hips until they fell on their own to pool at his feet. Then he paused to just drink Jimin in with his eyes.
Jimin bit his lip. "Like what you see?"
Taehyung nodded, tongue darting out to wet his lip. "You know it's uncanny…the less you're wearing, the more I like it." He kissed Jimin again, his hands cradling the sides of his face.
"Wait," Jimin pulled away. "Now you're wearing too many clothes." He unbuttoned Taehyung's shirt, lightly kissing the skin of his chest as it was exposed.
"That feels nice." Taehyung murmured.
Once the alpha's shirt was gone, Jimin moved on to his belt, unbuckling it and popping the button of his pants so they also fell to the floor. "Now we're even." Suddenly, Taehyung lifted Jimin into his arms, causing the omega to have to wrap his legs around his waist as he gripped his shoulders. Taehyung carried him over to the bed and laid him down on it. "Someone's been lifting."
"I don't know what you mean." Taehyung said playfully. "You're light as a feather." He leaned down to kiss Jimin again, his hands sliding down his body and sending an electric current over his skin. Though his touch was light, Jimin's entire body was buzzing, arching up for more. "If you like that you're gonna love this." Taehyung whispered as he trailed kisses down Jimin's chest and stomach, all the way down until he had to pause to slip Jimin's black panties off. He leaned back into press a light kiss just over Jimin's hole before running his tongue over it, gathering up the slick leaking out of him as Jimin let out a moan.
As Taehyung's mouth worked over him, Jimin felt connected to him in a way he'd never thought possible. Like Taehyung knew his body even better than he himself. "Don't stop~" He moaned out, bucking his hips up towards the alpha's face.
Taehyung's hands came up to grip Jimin's trembling thighs, holding them open as his tongue plunged in and out of him, finding every hidden place that made Jimin's body quake. Just when Jimin couldn't imagine any more pleasure, Taehyung sat up, crawling over Jimin's body while holding his gaze. Something sparked between them as their eyes met, some deep understanding that didn’t require words. Taehyung gently stroked Jimin's cheek, leaning down to lightly bump his nose against the omega's before shifting between his legs so he could press inside him. "Shit~" Jimin's breath hitched at the penetration, his hands coming up to grip at Taehyung's back as he sank in. Everything faded away as Taehyung slowly thrusted in and out of him. All Jimin could feel was their entwined bodies that seemed to fit together perfectly as he held Taehyung tightly.
the present…
Dr. Choi fanned herself with her clipboard. "Sorry, I need some water. Just…I definitely need some of that in my life." Jimin's cheeks heated up in embarrassment as she looked at him sympathetically. "Anyway, are you going to be okay?"
Jimin didn't know how to answer that. "I just…I just can't believe I'm pregnant!"
"Well, you're far enough along that we could do an ultrasound." Dr. Choi offered.
"An ultrasound?" Jimin bit his lip, twisting the bottom of his shirt in his hands. "I don’t know if I'm ready for that."
"You'll be fine, dear." Dr. Choi assured him. "Just lie back, lift up your shirt, and take a peek at that monitor." Anxiety flooding his veins, Jimin laid back on the table and lifted his shirt to expose his stomach. Dr. Choi squirted some kind of gel onto his stomach, making him hiss at the cold temperature. "Sorry, I should have warned you. I guess today's a day for surprises!" She pressed a probe over the gel and moved it around until a swirl of black and white appeared on the monitor. "There's your baby!"
Jimin stared wide eyed at the little blurry blob on the screen, a wave of many different emotions crashing over him. "I-I don't even know what to say. It's just…so absolutely terror inducing." His anxiety once again overshadowed everything else he was feeling. "I mean is it okay? Am I lying down properly? Am I hurting it? How am I supposed to take care of it without all the technology available here?"
"Jimin, just relax, okay?" Dr. Choi said calmly. "Take a deep breath."
Jimin took a deep breath and relaxed on the exam table. "Sorry, things just got very real very quickly."
Dr. Choi offered him a small smile. "Don't worry about it. Happens all the time. Congratulations, though."
"For what?" Jimin asked in confusion.
"You just survived your first parental freak out." Dr. Choi chuckled.
Jimin smiled weakly. "Yay anxiety." He looked at the image of his baby again, the anxiety still there but now it was accompanied by a warmth. "I am a bit excited though, underneath being overwhelmed."
Dr. Choi hummed slightly. "Do you believe you're pregnant now?"
"I do." Jimin nodded. "I mean…I am. I'm going to be an eomma."
