Work Text:
Carrie, at first, was annoyed by how the human woman did nothing but scream and run away from the staff and students of Zoo-Phoenix Academy. However, now that she was seeing her attempt to approach her demonic unicorn and thus, a different creature, the lizard demon realized that the human was just extremely worried about a place she can never leave. She’s cute. The lizard demon found herself thinking when it came to the human woman, especially considering it had been a few months since Cameron had been at Safe Haven, causing Carrie and Cameron to grow even closer. Carrie wanted to deny what she had just thought but when Brutis allowed Cameron to actually touch him, she scowled at the demonic unicorn. She’s still such a shaky thang. Carrie noticed that Cameron’s hands continued to shake, even as she was petting Brutis.
The more Carrie watched Cameron, the more she wondered if the woman had a harsh upbringing. How did her parents treat her or was she born this terrified? Carrie wasn’t sure she wouldn’t like the answer. When Cameron felt the lizard demon’s eyes on her, she glanced down with her cheeks turning red. Why now? Why when I’m standing in front of her? Cameron was trying to hide something from Carrie and she knew being around the demon was going to allow her to find out sooner rather than later. However, Carrie never stopped looking at her and Cameron could feel the demon’s eyes on her. “Are you still scared of me?” Carrie couldn’t help but ask the question.
Brutis huffed at his owner, getting a scowl from Carrie. “N-no, that’s not it,” Cameron didn’t know how to confess when she was put up on the spot like this. Luckily, she didn’t need to because when Carrie started staring down her body and watching the way Cameron was trying to shyly show her that she liked her. Carrie coughed with her cheeks turning red, knowing she needed to speak up before Cameron combusted due to her nerves. “I like you!” Cameron had closed her eyes while saying the words but when she looked up at Carrie, the lizard demon noticed the fear in the woman’s eyes. She thinks I’m going to reject her. The demon knew she needed to speak up now.
“I like ya too,” she got the words out very smoothly, seeing tears begin to pool in the human woman’s eyes. Got it out at the last fucking minute! Carrie really hoped Cameron heard the words, even though she knew she would gladly say it again for her sake.
“R-really?” Cameron looked back into Carrie’s eyes and even though Carrie could feel her cheeks turning red, she could tell Brutis was smiling and she knew he was going to show Cameron how she really felt about the human woman. He is going to ruin my tough girl image! However, when it came to the human, the lizard demon found herself not really caring. For Cameron. Carrie thought with a small smile on her face.
