Chapter Text

The door banged open. “Tim,” said Jason, still holding onto the doorknob. “You missed breakfast. Damian is pissed, and the new Talon kid is hacking the Nest's codes. I give him another hour before he breaks in."

Tim barely looked up from the sheets of data, anti blue light glasses slipping down the slope of his nose, as his fingers clattered away at the keyboard. “Oh, really?” he said noncommittally.

Jason let out long exhale. “Tim.”

At that, Tim’s shoulders tensed under the oversized pullover. “You don’t get to play nice with me, Jaybird,” Tim said lightly, before resuming his typing. “Not when you’re leaving me alone with the demon brat and his new pet project for college tomorrow.”

“It’s precisely because I’m leaving for college,” Jason said louder, “for that fully-funded Gotham State University scholarship you applied on my behalf without consulting me-”

“That didn't mean you had to leave my Nest, it is barely an hour's drive away-”

Jason leaned against the door frame, digging his fingers at the bridge of his nose. “I’m not fighting with you,” he announced, a reminder to himself rather than a threat to Tim, who sounded like he was on the verge of tears despite still wearing that poker face. “There is a rational part of you that knows that applying for college dorms was a completely reasonable decision for a freshman who wants a sense of normalcy after-after whatever our lives are.”

Tim looked away pointedly, lips in a pout. “Now that you’ve signed yourself up for this silly thing, you better stay away from drugs, alcohol, and men,” he muttered. "I'll be watching you, Jason, you bet I won't bust your ass."

Jason nodded, a corner of his mouth quirking upwards. “Whatever you say, Timbo. So, are you going back for Alfred's leftovers, or what?”
