Glimpse of Us

Summary:

“They warned me…. They warned me of a spy who could make anyone’s face…” Yor breathed out, her voice shaking.

“….Please tell me you’re just wearing my husband’s face,” Her eyes were shining, and her face full of betrayal.

“It’s me,” he croaked out, throat dry. “Yor, it’s me…”

Chapter 1: One

Chapter Text

It was supposed to be an easy mission. Infiltrate and gather evidence of corrupt arms dealing between Ostanian politicians and neighboring countries, likely to gather more weapons to prepare for war.

Twilight had done countless missions like this before. For him, it was just another Tuesday.

He started off by disguising himself as a security guard, blending in seamlessly with the rest of the staff. The actual security guard laid passed out hidden in some bushes.

In front of him stood the mansion of Walter Braun, a member of the National Unity Party. The man was rather outspoken on his vitriol regarding Westalis and was trying to weasel his way into Desmond’s inner circle. However, Desmond being the well known recluse he is, has never been seen with Walter Braun therefore it is unlikely that the man has any influence over Desmond whatsoever. Regardless, it was up to WISE to ensure that any illegal arms dealing would be stopped to prevent Ostania from having an unfair advantage and larger armory should war ever take place.

It was a quiet night, however, Walter Braun always liked to keep guards on high alert to flex his wealth and power. In general, he always had one guard patrolling the perimeter and another within the mansion. Twilight walked confidently and gave the other security guard a nod as he entered the mansion, posing as the internal guard for the night. The other guard paid him no mind and simply continued his patrol outside.

Once inside, Twilight made his way to the office where he was expecting Walter to have left most of his invoices and purchase history. At this hour, Twilight was expecting him to be asleep which would give him ample time to rummage through Braun’s office for evidence. Any man worth his salt would know not to leave a paper trail, but Braun was sloppy and everyone knew it. As Twilight entered the office, he quickly screened the room for areas where he could find some sort of evidence.

Off in the distance, Twilight could hear footsteps getting closer and closer. He quickly found a blindspot behind a pillar within the room, out of sight for anyone peering in from the door.

Lo and behold the man himself walked in angrily shouting into his cellphone.

“What do you mean the purchase didn’t go through? I literally signed off and wrote the damn check in front of those damned terrorists!” Walter seethed as he charged towards his desk and yanked open a drawer.

Is this man just going to pull out exactly what I’m looking for? This mission was getting too easy.

“I still have the copies, I’m looking at them right now!” Walter shouted “Yes I can bring them, why-“

Walter pulled the phone away from his ear, the sound of a line going dead blaring from his phone. “What the hell?”

All of a sudden, Twilight had a sinking feeling in his stomach that this mission was about to get complicated.

“Mr. Braun, may I have the honor of taking your life?”
