Oh Raven (Sing Me A Happy Song)

Summary:

Yoru's gotten sick, and there's only one thing that Chamber has to do to make him feel better.

Notes:

This is solely inspired by someone making a Chamber voice AI cover to the song "Dernière danse" by Indila. Loved that song before the cover was made, heard the cover, immediately started writing this. The title, however, is a song by Unlike Pluto. A very good one at that!

Originally this was going to be a 5+1 fic (five times Yoru tried to get Chamber to sing, and one time Chamber actually does), but nothing I was writing was working out inspiration wise, and this was the best route I could go in order to get this out in a timely manner. This is by far the shortest thing I've written in a long while, but I'm still quite proud of it!

More Yomber and overall Valorant content soon! So very sorry I've been so slow with everything. Writers block kicks me in the ass way more than I would like for it to.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

When Yoru wakes up, he immediately wishes he didn't.

The sun was too bright, too hot, and too fucking present in his room.

He wants to close the blinds, but he realizes they're already closed, and the sun was just incredibly determined to ruse him from his ailment-induced slumber.

Yoru was sick. Sage says it's just a simple fever, but it felt like he was suffering from the black plague. His bones felt like glass, his skin felt like paper, and if he had to sniffle one more god damn time -

As the door opens, he lets out a string of several sneezes. When the fit is over, his neck relaxes and he’s able to lay his head against his pillow once again, a pained sigh escaping his mouth as he hears a chuckle at the door.

“A dog must be thankful to never have to be as sick as you.” Chamber’s voice is like heaven against Yoru’s ears, yet despite that, Yoru can't even bring himself to look over at the other.

“Good to know I’m comparable to a dog to you.” He tries to sound annoyed, but his voice just comes out raspy. He swallows, flinching at the pain of his sore throat. “God, Vincent, this shit sucks. Wish it was you instead of me,”

Chamber laughs again, coming close and moving the bedhead hair from Yoru’s forehead and kissing his two first fingers, bringing it down to Yoru’s heated skin. Yoru sighs, forcing himself to move his arm so he could place his hand atop Chamber’s. Just to hold the hand there for a moment. Chamber allows it, his smile never fading.

“I take it you aren't feeling any better, mon beau ?” Chamber asks softly, sitting near the edge of the bed. Yoru clears his throat and weakly shakes his head. Chamber sighs. He holds up a glass of an aqua-blue liquid, showing it to Yoru. “Sage says this should help. It may not taste good, but anything to help you heal.”

Yoru grimaces slightly at the look of the liquid, but he recognizes the color to be of Sage’s signature healing capabilities and trusts it. Upon seeing no denial, Chamber adjusts himself to easily give it to Yoru. Yoru sits up just a bit (grunting in pain all the while. He normally would tease Chamber upon seeing such a pitying gaze, but he deserved to be pampered, so he didn't dare ruin it) and Chamber holds his chin gently in the palm of his hand. Yoru can't quite help when his heart flutters lightly at the fact that Chamber knows that, just this once, he needs to be gentle.

Yoru opens his mouth and allows the liquid to slide down his throat, immediately feeling the burn flow away and be replaced with the sweet relief of normalcy. Yoru suddenly pulls away.

“Something wrong? Is everything alright?” Chamber asks immediately, his voice less caring and more accusatory. Yoru has to stop himself from coughing too much to stop Chamber from rushing to Sage and accusing the overworked woman of poisoning him. He quickly nods, holding his hand to his chest to calm himself down.

“Jesus, that shit tastes like how Breach looks.” He states quickly, and Chamber blinks a few times before he smiles once again. Yoru then swallows hard, eyes widening for only a split second in surprise. “Worked though. My throat feels so much better.”

Upon no longer feeling like he’s on the brink of death, he is able to appreciate the way the sun's rays shimmer on Chamber’s tattoo's and he takes in a deep breath of appreciation.

“Sage did want me to bring that to you, but I did want to come on my own accord. I’m quite glad you are okay, however, I am jealous that you've gotten plenty of work days off for your ailment.” Chamber jokes slightly, and Yoru shrugs.

“If you would've given me kisses when I asked for them, then you’d be sick, too. And we’d both get sick days.” Yoru offers, and Chamber laughs gracefully.

“You know I can't purposely step away from my work, mon amor . That’s like putting the whole world at risk.” He says, and Yoru rolls his eyes, looking away again. Chamber’s smile dies down as he tilts his head at his lover, raising an eyebrow and standing slowly as he reaches for the other's rosy cheek. “You seem off, Ryo. And it isn't your current sickness. What’s troubling you?”

Yoru looks to Chamber after those words and smirks slightly, leaning into the cool touch.

“I’m sick, and need to be spoiled,” Chamber feels like he already knows where this is going (which is completely his fault. Ever since they’ve been together, Chamber hasn't stopped pampering Yoru. Brimstone scolded him about it, but how the hell is he supposed to say no when Yoru hasn't gotten the chance to be spoiled his entire life?), but allows the other to continue speaking anyways. “And you promised me that one day you’d sing me to sleep. Now seems like the perfect opportunity considering I still need rest.”

Chamber blinks twice before he laughs softly, and Yoru frowns.

“Please, mon cher , my voice is nothing like it used to be when I was younger. I’m out of practice. I do not want to cause your ears to feel sickly like the rest of you-”

“I don't care about how you sound. I just want to hear you sing.” Yoru cuts him off, determination wracking in his voice. Chamber’s impressed by the other's insistency, but he lets out a sigh.

“Please, Ryo, allow me to do anything else for you. I am willing to do whatever you’d like.” He offers, but Yoru frowns at him for only a few seconds longer before he lays down and turns away from Chamber.

Chamber raises an eyebrow to Yoru turning stubbornly and lets out a soft sigh. Chamber was a powerful man, and capable of more than anyone could ever imagine.

Yet somehow, Yoru made him weak every single time.

Chamber stares at the other for a moment longer before he smiles softly, sitting back on the bed and getting himself rather comfortable.

"Come, mon chat .” He starts, seeing the way Yoru’s interest is already re-piqued at the name. His heart skips a beat at such a thing- at how subtle yet powerful their feelings are for one another. “Allow me to care for you," He says softly, and Yoru bites the sensitive inside of his cheek as he sniffles.

Normally, Yoru’s dignity wouldn't allow for him to turn and actually crawl towards the other (or literally anyone. Crawl? Yoru? Not a fucking chance.), and he didn't do it for any reason other than his sick-addled brain told him to.

"Try not to talk too much," He states, his voice nasally due to the snot building in his sinuses. Chamber just chuckles, and Yoru hates how it soothes his never-ending headache. He doesn't allow his face to betray it though.

Yoru makes it to Chamber's position on the bed, laying his head down on his lap. He lets out a content sigh, his eyes instantly fluttering close. Chamber's hands reach and cradle his head gently, the coolness of his fingertips and gloves feel like heaven against Yoru's flushed face.

When Chamber's thumbs run against Yoru's cheeks, Yoru gasps in shock. Not at the action of his hands, but what falls from Chamber's lips.

Chamber begins to sing.

And it’s exactly how Yoru expected it to be.

It’s like chocolate. Smooth, sweet, yet deep and hits all the right spots Yoru was hoping for it to. If Chamber thought this was out of practice, what in the world would the man sound like if he sang all the time ? Yoru shuddered at the thought.

And it was gorgeous, most of all. Chamber’s thumb strokes Yoru’s face as he speaks French words in a melody that Yoru can't begin to comprehend. Chamber hits notes that sound too difficult to hit for even a popstar, and despite not understanding French outside of the short nicknames Chamber calls him, he feels the world intertwining with the very cells of his brain, causing him to short-circuit and only think of Vincent Vincent Vincent .

As the other sings, Yoru feels his sickly head getting heavier and heavier. No longer could the sun's rays beaming through his curtains possibly wake him. All Vincent had to do was keep singing. It was comparable to that of a siren. An ethereal, beautiful creature who had the most beautiful voice in all of the land.

And Chamber was just like a siren through and through. He had the voice, he had the looks, he had the danger . Yoru would believe, right here right now in his sleepy state, that he had been lured by the siren, and now he wouldn't be let go until he was at the bottom of the sea. A plaything for the siren forever.

And honestly? It was what he wanted.

So long as the siren promised to be by his side forever.

“I will, mon cher ,” Chamber says quietly to the sleeping Yoru, stroking the other's cheek sweetly. His smile is gone, but the affection in his eyes remains, albeit with a swirl of cold and dark making its way through. “I have my hold on you, and I will never let you go.” Chamber leans down and kisses Yoru softly despite him always refusing to due to his sickness.

“I don't think I could let you go, even if I tried.”

Notes:

Sorry, I had to throw in the whole "hey, remember that Chamber's a terrible person but Yoru's a ride or die" thing that I always do LOL. This was very fun! I'm very happy to have written this, so I do hope that you enjoyed!
